Every hardcore Star Wars fan knows about the "mirroring" of the PT to the OT... and shortly after TFA, a thread documented some of the apparent (and clever) "rhymes" found in the first installment of the ST. I personally think it is pretty clear the present story group is keeping up with George Lucas' little pet project during the ST and, for as "different" a Star Wars movie as it may be, even TLJ, too...

So I wanted to start a thread for everyone to provide evidence of the continued Ring Theory in The Last Jedi and what it all means for the story going forward.

My personal theory is that the ST is more directly mirroring the PT by showing the rise (or fall?) of Kylo Ren as the ultimate villain, as it should have been portrayed for Anakin and his descent into the horror that became Darth Vader... while also inversely mirroring the OT by showing us the reverse story of an Anti-Luke. In fact, in many ways, Kylo Ren has both succeeded and failed (depending upon our point of view) by making choices his predecessors, Anakin and Luke, decidedly did not make, like killing his own father at the behest of his master, as well as ultimately overthrowing and usurping power from that master when the first opportunity presented itself.

For purposes of clarity, what I mean by an inverse mirroring of the OT is that I actually think in many ways TFA inversely mirrors ROTJ, while TLJ is the reverse of ESB. For example, the Empire/First Order siege by heavy assault walkers on a hidden Rebel/Resistance base on a white frozen Hoth/white salted Crait occurs at the beginning of ESB, attacking from the right of the screen to the left, while it occurs at the end of TLJ, attacking from the left of the screen to the right.

Anyway, I find the Ring Theory a fascinating undercurrent in Star Wars. I am curious to see what evidence others find for it in TLJ. And I am even more curious, if my inverse suggestions are correct, what everyone thinks it could mean for where Episode IX will end up!

Doesn't work though, because those AT-M6's in TLJ don't do anything. It's not mirroring if in one story the subjects are active participants, and in the other they are simply "bigger and badder" window dressing.

A great posts, there is also a lot of mirroring in terms of dialogue. But I also think that Johnson is consciously subverting some of the mirroring elements. Like for example in Rey and Kylo's arcs.

When KR spoke 2 Rey in the throne room it was very similar 2 the dialog between Anakin & Pads.
