Maybe I'm stating the obvious here, but I'm expecting Ep8 to be extremely dark. As I've hinted before, the big villain will be revealed by the end of Ep7. Whoever of the Jedi and the Republic is left standing will be going toe to toe with them. No more hiding in the shadows, no more self inposed exile, it will be straight up good versus evil.

I'm guessing if we get any deaths of Luke, Han, or Leia that this will be the film we see it in.

    Thoughts?

Like Episodes II and V, this one will be the bad guys' chance to shine and will end on a cliffhanger, possibly setting up Daisy's tough battle to come.

In recent memory, the only time a sequel was able to outmatch the original is by following a different path.
The reason Nolan's Batman films work so well is because they took different rout each time. The first was
an origin story, second a detective thriller, and third an epic scale action saga.

I think you're probably right. Especially if they are going by some George Lucas story outline or treatments, because he's stated in the past he loves recurring themes, and we've seen the same things throughout the saga so far.

My biggest worry about Episode 8 is how different it will be when Luke, Leia, & Han take a backseat to the new generation of characters? Regardless if any of the Big 3 die in Episode 7, it sounds like they will playing secondary roles in Episode 8. What if the younger generation ST characters don't click with the fans like the PT characters? Will many of us OT fans be left with essentially liking Episode 7 the most cause it mainly featured Luke, Leia, & Han?

I knew Nolan was influence by the prequels but I didn't realize how influenced. Origin, detective and epic action is the basic PT form.

The PT is Star Wars as ancient myth while Nolan's trilogy is Batman as myth.

I assure you, Nolan was not influenced in the least by the prequels.

"Extremely dark" would be taking to too far, save that for the last movie and end it with a somewhat somber tone. We would be better off without a copy and paste of the structure of the original movies.

    You really think that?

My main concern about episodes 8 & 9 are that the filmmakers may "paint themselves into a corner" in terms of story that, as fans predict all possible good endings on the internet, the filmmakers may settle for a weaker ending to avoid being predicted instead of playing out the most potent "true feeling" ending in the most riveting way possible.

I'm also concerned that by the time the last numbered film is made the story mechanics will not be set up for a good end because of poor planning (like if sw 7 & 8 are made without thinking enough about the end game or if the original ending is thrown out to accomodate more numbered sequels.)

In the end I want to be saying "I totally should have predicted that but I didn't!" I don't want to be saying "No human could possibly have predicted that because it's totally random! "

Well apparently TFA may well end on a dark note, in which case it may end up being the opposite in 8. I know what you mean though, it's the middle of the trilogy and the perfect time for the bad guys to get the upper hand like in 5.

Personally I'd love a dark ending to both 7 and 8, with a happy (light side victorious) one in 9. That would make the saga end all the more sweetly.

It really depends on how Disney sees the whole picture.

Do they see it as a trilogy.. or a neverending serial.

In my very humble opinion, TFA is THE FIRST Disney Star Wars Episode.... the main goal of the episode is to, OF COURSE, bring new customers to the Star Wars brand... for many years to come... new generations... some, not even born today.

So, TFA could be in the same tone as ANH. Something that will end on a high note, full of hopes... and with the crowd wanting to see what's next for the new heroes.

Episode 8, has to become the darkest episode. The one that could see the end of Luke Skywalker, and Leia Organa.

    What do you think?

    Wild Speculation
Episode VIII influenced by the The Seven Samurai, will dismantle favorites. Luke's last sacrifice.

I predict that Rey will fight Kylo Ren and have her hand/arm cut off in very shocking fashion. She will get a bad-ass cybernetic hand at the end of Episode 8.
