When Chirrut says this, is he talking literally or metaphorically?

If I have to guess - both. He is smart enough to know that Empire wants all that kyber for something and he senses Jyn's strength.

Yeah, specifically the Death Star, and the star of the film. Almost makes it seem like Chirrut knew exactly what the Empire was doing- or maybe the Force had just sort of guided him to that conclusion without his knowing.

I was just spitballing ideas. All matter originates in stars, kyber crystal are attuned to the force, some stars (maybe if it's literal) have kyber cores, the force binds all matter, Jyn's pet name is Stardust....

Maybe I'm joining dots that aren't there but it's fun :)

Matter originated with the Big Bang. Stars are responsible for complex elements via Stellar Nucleosynthesis.

True. My knowledge of Star Wars history doesn't stretch back that far, but if the opening is correct ("Long ago, in a galaxy far, far away") then I guess it's supposed to take place in our universe- so I guess it applies.

    *takes a puffof deathstifck*

But, like, if Stars have hearts of Kyber, and we're made of the stuff of stars, does that mean we're made of Kyber?

I hope this becomes the new thread of the week lol

Interesting! But would they have obliterated Alderaan if it'd had a heart of Kyber? Looked like a nice planet to me lol

it's definitely a reference to Jyn as a character, but it also explains why/how Starkiller Base works in TFA.

Glad I read all of the posts...I was about to mention the link to Starkiller base. I doubt this was thought about in advance of TFA (Personally don't think a lot of thought was put in to that movie :p ), but it could explain it!

Didn't Foster's novelization say Starkiller was harvesting 'dark energy' from the stars though? Ah hell, who cares.

i have no idea, i haven't read any of the new novels. i just figured that since the Death Star uses kyber crystals, and kyber crystals can be found in stars, that Starkiller Base must have been using the star's internal crystal. honestly, i'm unsure what dark energy would be found in a star, but that may very well be the case!

Well, nobody really knows what ‘dark energy’ is - so you could have it be a stand in for just about anything you don’t want to have to explain. Hey, maybe Kyber is a form from ‘dark energy’. Or maybe I should stop putting more thought into this than the writers did.
