Let's start a thread talking about places on our bucket list that we want to move to or just would like to visit. Say where you are from and where you would like to visit or your dream location would be.

For me, I am from California. I've thought about doing a road trip through the United States, visiting certain states like Texas, Washington D.C., Kentucky, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin, Montana, Tennessee, etc.

Dunno where else for right now. How about you?

Planning to visit the Canaries next year. This will be the first time ill travel alone so it kinda makes me nervous haha. Going to check Fuerteventura first, I heard offers its a lovely warm sanctuary away from the harsh winters of Europe then last of my list is Playa de Gran Tarajal in the southeast.

I was about to create a thread about travels but I found this one, so its not necessary.

Places that I would like to go:

    - Easter island (Chile);
    - Galapagos (Equador);
    - Alaska (USA)
    - Glacial Perito Moreno (Argentina)
    - Barcelona (Spain)
    - Beaches of Greece, Italy and Croatia.
    - Southeast Asia (Vietnan, Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, Indonesia)

Places that I already visited and recommend:

    - Cusco/Aguas Calientes (Peru) - Impressives archeological sites as Machu Picchu, Coricancha, Sacsayhuaman, Tambomachay, etc...

    - Mendoza (Argentina) - Land of wine, good place to visit hundred of wineries. Also this city is just aside the Cordilheira dos Andes, the most impressive chains of mountains of all Americas. The hightest peak in the Americas is called Aconcagua. You can visit also.

    - Iguazu falls (Argentina/Brazil) - The impressives waterfalls shared by Argentina and Brazil. Such a beautiful place to visit.

    - Archeological sites of Mexico - The most impressive country that I visited for the ones who search for history and archeological sites. My favorites: Teotihuacan (beautiful pyramids built 100 AC.). Palenque (impressive maya`s constructions). Calakmul (7 bigs buildings made by the Mayans in the deep jungle. Rival mayan city at the time was Tikal/Yavin IV). Tulum (most impressive landscape in mexico: Mayan ruins and the beautiful sea). Chichen Itza (the most famous mayan site, impressive btw).

    - Beaches of Mexico - Cozumel (impressive site to scuba diving or snorkeling). Akumal (beautiful beach where you can swin with the sea turtles, they are thousand of them). Tulum (as I said before, impressive landscape). In the Maya Riviera don't forget to visit the Cenotes, I recommend Cenote Azul, the most beautiful blue water I ever saw).

    - National Parks of USA - Yellowstone (the oldest and the most impressive in my opinion, wildlife in every corner. We saw bears, wolves, deers, mooses...). Arches of Moab (this is pod racing!). Gran Canyon (impressive, most impressive). Bryce Canyon (love this park, especially when its snowing). Antelope Canyon (the water sculping the stones, spectacular). Monumment Valley (jaw droping).

    - Archeological sites of Egypt - Other country with a incredible history. Favorite sites: Abu Simbel (Two big temples constructed by Ramses II). Hatshepsut temple (Luxor). Luxor temple (Luxor). Karnak Temple (Luxor). Isis Temple in a island (Luxor). Valley of the Kings, Tut`s tomb and Ramses VI tomb(Luxor). Colosses of Menom (Luxor). Temple of Medinet Habu (Luxor). As you can see the best place for monuments and history are located in Luxor.
Plateau of Giza (The pyramids and the sphinx). Next to Giza you can also visit others pyramids like the famous Saqqara, red and bent pyramid.

    - Dahab (Egypt) - Excelent beach to stay, good restaurants, Excelente sea to scuba diving or snorkeling.
    - The White Desert (Egypt) - It looks like another planet. everything is white. We spent the night there.

As you can see most of the place that I choosed were natural landscapes, beaches and archeological sites. I left a lot of great big city with a lot of cool things to do out of my list. Some cities that I loved: Buenos Aires, City of Mexico, NYC, Seattle, San Francisco, Cairo, Paris, etc...

Wich places you already visited that you enjoyed most and recommend?

Now that I am living in Europe I really would like to go to Skellig Islands. Is there anyone here that went there already? I am super curious to know more about. How it works, how it cost, how danger it is, etc....

Traveling is my passion, so I like to go to overseas. Few months ago I went to Prague where I visited massage parlor. I think massage is a perfect way to fight with stress and fatigue. I think massage parlors in Prague better than in Bali, where I was last week.

Just to tell you that I am in a beatiful place called Maldives.

If you love beachs, like me, this is great country to visit.

More than 1.100 islands, 200 inhabited.

    Locals are very friendly.

@Messi I have actually been to the Maldives....specifically Diego Garcia and the military airbase there. I was there many years ago deployed with a couple special mission aircraft, I was in charge of flightline maintenance...your pix are amazing!

Oh cool. Hope you had enjoyed your stay there because the beaches are the best ones that I have been. Do you remember the islands you went?

We went to Gulhi, Omadhoo, Digurhaa and Dinadhoo.

Maldives is a country that we will probably go again in the future. A distant future because its too expensive!!:D:D:D

    Ps. Some others pics:

First of all your pictures are amazing!

Second I figured it out, I was not actually in the Maldives. I was in the BIOT or British Indian Ocean Territories to the south, at Diego Garcia.

But anyway my wife saw your pix and we have decided we need to get there some day!

Interesting. I never heard about the British Indian Territories, and its not so far away from the Maldives. I need to search a little bit more about this country to see how is the infrastructure for turism. Thanks for let me know.

Well, Maldives is a place that everyone should go at least once in life.

If someday you will decide to go I can give you some tips and talk a little bit about the islands that we went.

Since many visitors to this thread are developing their "bucket list" of places to visit in their lifetimes, I thought I'd share my "HOLY COW, You gotta SEE this!" list of Top Ten travel destinations from some of the places I've had the opportuntiy to experience:

    1. New Zealand. Wow, just wow. From Peter Jackson's Hobbiton film set and glow worm caverns on North Island to the Mount Sunday (site of the Golden Hall of King Theoden) to the glorious Milford Sound (inspiration for the waterfalls canyon of Rivendell), this place has it all -- and I've only begun to touch the spectacular sights you'll find here.

    2. Santorini. The legendary Greek island with the most spectacular sunset views (from the city of Thera) you will find anywhere in the world. An old movie where the island is one of the highlights, is "Summer Lovers." NZ and Santorini stand out above the rest of my list.

    3. Alaska. An Alaskan Cruise is a great way to experience it. When my wife and I did it, we were initially surprised to meet a number of cruise guests who were making their fifth or sixth Alaskan cruise. We thought that was nuts...until we experienced our first one. Now we no longer wonder why.

    4. Prague. People used to talk about Paris being the ultimate romantic "Od World' European city (and it IS cool!) but Prague is even more impressive, particularly the Old Town area near the ancient clock tower. There is even a hotel directly across from the clock tower.

    5. Canary Islands. Amazing seaports nestled against towering mountains.

    6. Las Vegas. An always-fun place to visit - particularly for young people. :)

    7. Barcelona. Another special place with special sights to see.

    8. Ibiza. Like Vegas, an always-fun place to visit -- particularly for young people. :)

    9. Venice. A moonlight trip through Venice by ship was an incredible memory.

    10. Hong Kong. Cities like New York are pretty cool but there's something about the massiveness of Hong Kong that takes your breath away.

Ok @Darth Derringer not only is that fantastic list of places it also includes 3 places I would love to see Hong Kong for the Food, History & the wholeVibe of the lace. Santorini not only. For those fantastic sunsets you mentioned but also there fantastic local wine & New Zealand although I have to admit the length of flight is a little of putting so it would have to be at least a 2 week trip.

as for place I have been my all time favourite is probably Japan what a absolutely fantastic experience & getting to see both Tokyo & Kyoto was brilliant & I’m not sure you could get to more difrent city’s but both fantastic in there own way.

2nd is a close call between Austria at Christmas for skiing i went with the family every year for 10 years to the same hotel so it became a very special place. Or Lake Louise (Canada) also for skiing & the view from the hotel was simply stunning.

Thank you for your kind words. When I was a young adult, I had the good fortune of meeting some world travelers who turned me on to some places that I'd never, ever thought to visit. And, after setting them as 'bucket list goals,' I did. This was my little attempt to inspire the same wanderlust in some of you.
The food was excellent but a tour of the city is like no other given its immense size. You'll love it!

This magical place was mentioned to me as a young adult -- but then I watched the 1982 film Summer Lovers starring Daryl Hannah and Peter Gallagher and I was hooked. The island is the biggest star of the film. The film is worth checking out if you're intrigued with Santorini.

I hear ya! Fortunately, I had a work-related project that took me to North Island for a week and I combined it with a second week vacation to South Island. That said, trust me, this is a destination Worth Every Penny of the Expense to get down there!

Never been there -- but it's on MY bucket list!!! :)

Sounds great. My wife and I have visited Vienna and had a memorable tour of St. Stephen's Cathedral. Part of what made the tour so much fun is that we'd both recently read Ken Follet's The Pillars of the Earth that dealt with medieval church-building.

I have been in Slovenia and Croatia this month.

    Recommend both.

Slovenia for the beautiful lakes and Croatia for the beautiful beaches.
