    1. It's a big galaxy. If you think of the number of stars in the galaxy, and assume that there's one or two inhabited planets for each star, and at least one species for each inhabited planet--it's probably, statistically, more amazing that we would encounter the same species twice, than that we would encounter new species.

    2. The sequels take place in the far reaches of the galaxy, in the outer rim. The older movies, Prequels especially, took place in the hub of everything, at the center of the Republic. It makes sense that we would see different sorts of creatures in these places.

    3. From a movie-making standpoint, I would rather see new innovations that feel like Star Wars than a simple rehash of the old.

But all that said, I wouldn't have minded a few appearances by more familiar aliens. I just don't think we need too many.

I do agree with you that it would've been nice to know more about Rey though.

Um......well, that was a rather random (and baseless) accusation. I'm not a part of whatever beef you have with whoever this was directed to.

Well you quoted yourself as if you were trying to converse with someone....it was a joke but clearly hit a nerve.

No they didn't. Not to my eyes, they are alternate universes to me the OT/ST and PT. All Star Wars but the PT is a painterly, more fairy talish universe the future of any sort is a much grittier and visceral place.

Deeper than that the underlying nature of the force and how beings of all sorts interact seems divergent as well.

I guess it's all subjective, but I thought that while admittedly the end of TPM felt far removed from the OT, the other two movies eventually got us there.

The new canon is expanding on this a lot, by the way- with movies like Rogue One and Solo, the Tarkin novel, Rebels, etc. But I get how that won't appeal to everyone. Still, I enjoy that bridging era now.
