I'm trying to wrap my head around what the unifying force is. I've read up on it and it seems to be the collective view of life. Kind of like the innertia or something of the collective force users.

The living force seems to be about diversity.

So here is why I'm narrowing that down, I'm trying to figure out the specifics of the force "awakening" in TFA.
I'm thinking its the Unifying force that must be awakening, a collective innertia, of light and dark, now redifining the movement of this collective force usage in the galaxy.

I think it has to be about the unifying force because the living force, cannot "go to sleep" or come to a halt, it always exists.

So, maybe, the living force, is reawakening the unifying force, causing it to stir once again, which may have huge butterfly effects on the future of the force, OR relatively tame ripple effects, depending on the individuals involved.

I think my point is that, the living force might create an approximate shift, that is then registered by the unifying force, and what TFA actually is, is the Unifying force, regaining influence over the living force, and perhaps, birthing new and unique force sensitives to impart its will?

Maybe its time skywalkers, were not the only force users again?

I hope the sequels won't even mention the Unifying Force. The topic is too complex for a movie.

I wonder what is achieved if it happened, many jedi & sith had different visions of outcomes for it.

I suppose it all comes down to what few Jedi and Sith remain and what spiritual view of the Force each believes. My personal view is that in the SW reality, it's the Unifying Force. The subtitle of TFA refers to the end of the 30+ years that the Force has spent healing from the corruption of Palpatine and Vader's dominance. Now the Force is fully healed (balanced) which would explain the sudden emergence of force sensitives, and Luke's rumored amplification of power to the point of being God-like.

additional thought: Some are going to see Luke's ridiculous amount of power from the Unifying Force and desire such power for themselves. (just one overall Force that can be harnessed for their own means.)
Others will see these individuals' pursuit of power and it will convince them of the path of the Living Force (a light side AND a dark side.)

I prefer the idea of The Unifying Force myself.

What I have trouble with, is believing that the Living Force and the Unified Force are distinct from each other. If the Living Force evolves from a respect for being in the moment-responding to potential in any direction it may flow, then the Unified Force's defining aspect of non-duality expresses the same principles. Am I parsing that correctly? I suspect the trope of the two distinct forces to be a tool of plot development, and a weak one at best.
