It's pretty clear to me the only reason why Lucas would tie these two characters together in such a pointless way.

Obviously, Sheev was using the force to guide Anakin into building C-3PO as part of his masterplan- it gives him a failsafe. Sometime before the end of ROTS, Sheev uploaded his consciousness to Threepio to maintain immortality. He's been following the heroes the entire time. This is even alluded to in TFA when he develops a red arm, clearly a side effect of his darkside nature. At the end of Episode IX, they'll destroy Snoke or whoever and then Threepio will appear and yell 'UNLIMITED POWAH!', showing himself to be the true antagonist, alongside Jabba's force ghost!

I don't see why nobody else has thought of it, really...

I suppose we'll just have to ask Lucasfilm for another couple o' films... we'll call them the Jar-Jar arc!

The PT sort of turned a galaxy into a few planets with about nothing in between them.

The charmed life and fun times Jar Jar Binks is already on bluray, but you can only find it if you know the codename. IIRC, its called The Phantom Menace.;)

He was clever enough to build a podracer. Maybe building C3PO was just Uncle George fan-service. Maybe building that exact same droid that years later would pester every single chance a dashing Corellian smuggler would have with his daughter was the Force acting on him lol.

On Chewie's defense, he had just been tortured and was imprisoned by the Empire, and worried about his mate and the Princess.

And he had just been tortured as well.

From what we are shown and told in the film, only Han was tortured. We never once see any signs that Chewie was.
Also, if the fan service makes fans complain, it's bad fan service.

We see when Chewie is screaming at a audio torture he is receiving while he is in the Bespin cell. The sound that is torturing his ears stops, and he starts fixing Threepio. The camera cuts to the next scene, where is Han about to be tortured by his father-in-law.

I always assumed that was some form of alarm, not torture.

And that's how I view it. A "fun mini story". It also seemed natural that the nine year-old Anakin would be immature or naive enough to construct a protocol droid to help his mother, a slave in a Tatooine junk shop, when another type of droid would have served her better.

Yet, fans are treating the entire plot twist - which is minor - like it's a major writing blooper. I find this unbelievable because it doesn't strike me as worth having a freak-out over. It's like they need another excuse to bash Lucas, because the Prequel Trilogy wasn't an exact remake of the Original Trilogy. I once pointed out a major mistake in "ROTS" . . . and no one paid attention. Yet, many are raising a big fuss over Anakin creating Threepio.

    Why not?

Anakin had help building C-3PO, and perhaps he gathered some working parts that fit together quickly. Either way, what's important is that even from a young age, Anakin was deeply involved in the various 'pedestrian activities' of others.

Personally, I thought it was a clever idea how Anakin built C3PO. I also thought seeing the robot's innards was super-cool.

I thought it made the universe a bit small. 3po should have been built by someone else.

Anakin probably built C-3PO using blueprints lying around Watto's garage?
