On Jimmy Kimmel last night, JJ said the picture was done... except "some color correction"

Okay, JJ, enough! You'll tell us the first spoken word, but not what colors you are correcting?!

What colors seemed a little off to you?
    What do you think?
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
[EDITED TO ADD: I chose Red-Green-Blue because of RGB, since they shot The Force Awakens using good old photochemical film. Photochemical film has 4 layers of emulsion: a red layer, a green layer, a blue layer and a base layer, but base isn't really a color. All that film was scanned into files long ago, and the color correction is being done digitally.

RGB Colorspace has millions of colors. That would have made for a slightly longer poll. (Several hundred pages of checkbox columns...)
Besides, Color correction is a skill, and involves much more than choosing a color and changing it.]

Well Star Wars has always been about innovation so they are working on this new color that no living human has seen yet .

Should this thread have the "Humour" tag?

I'm not sure if this is serious or not.

Colour correction is a pretty standard thing in film making these days.

Yeah, I do admit my tongue is in my cheek. :)

I tagged this "Speculation" because, like you said, colour correction is a real thing. And JJ said they *are* doing colour correction.

But we can be humorous about real things... can't we?

And quite cleverly too. I lolled when i opened this thread cause i saw it as such a perfect "spinal tap" comment on ourselves in this cantina obsessively speculating and putting every little detail under the microscope (guilty!) . "What colours will JJ be correcting ?" HA! Well played sir! ;)
We got to laugh at ourselves sometimes.

I started writing something about color correcting in TFA here to round of my post on a serious note but quickly realized i have no idea what im talking about. All i know is that i don't want them to go overboard like in Mad Max Fury Road . Don't get me wrong , Fury Road is an excellent movie on many levels but the colors there went kind of silly at times. Never go full retard!

Color correcting is another way of saying "DI," "Digital Imaging," to make all
Tones and stuff even, similar to how film stock used to be tinted to achieve the same effect "digitally," and the film stock it was filmed in was probably converted to digital for editing and all, and then re-distributed back onto film stock.

Or to exaggerate certain colours in different scenes, typically to evoke a particular mood or atmosphere to scene (make things warmer/cooler/etc.)
I understand what colour correction is about... that's why I was questioning the seriousness of this thread.
Asking what colour they are correcting is kind of a weird question to ask, as it oversimplifies the process.

You're right with the oversimplification. However, the whole point of DI is to change the tone, literally speaking. For example, if you were to watch my last film, we shot in 6K Digital and it was too dark in one scene where we had a 360-degree view-angle, but our DI at LightIron Digital made it beautiful in quality.
    --- Double Post Merged, Nov 25, 2015, Original Post Date: Nov 25, 2015 ---
Because DI has nothing to do with the actual quality, editing does...unless the way the film was filmed is too high-quality for the facility, so it is downgraded for DI and then reconverted and put back onto the servers for the remainder of its lifespan.

Well, the exact words going through my my brain were "Someone is bound to make a post about color correction -- so it might as well be ME!"

But yeah, I did want to shine some attention on how obsessive we can get!

I certainly don't know what needs correction.
As to how far they'll go? I think their colour palette will be nuanced, balanced, and very real-world. I don't anticipate anything being oversaturated, but then again, that depends on what affect a given shot needs to have on the audience.

Realistic, and not heavily stylized. *Shrugs* but it's gonna look great!

My personal hope is that Dan Mindel gets to have signification input on finished look... :)

(Directors of Photography don't always get the attention during post, that I believe they deserve...)
    --- Double Post Merged, Nov 25, 2015 ---
    Oh, right!

    And ND filters, too!

He was probably complaining about how the movie was too black and white and how it needed some grey areas.

If ya get what I mean ;).

    Great, another race thread.

JJ and Disney better leave Boyega alone and not whitewash the film under pressure from those darn bigots.
