The movie was a very good film and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I give it a solid B++. People have to accept the fact that this was a setup movie for the next two and you are not going to get all of the action you want to see in the first one. This was to setup who the players are and develop their characters, which Abrams is excellent at (Lost).

It is scarily concerning how many people out there don't know how a three act structure works.

As a first act, this is ace.

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, but it will take some time for it to feel like it belongs with the others. Unlike with most movies I see, I've watched the Star Wars movies dozens (hundreds?) of times - so it's just about impossible for a movie I've seen once to feel the same. For me, it's more about that than the impact of the next two movies.

I'm not blind to TFA's flaws, but I suspect that they will never overshadow it's many positive attributes in my mind.

I cracked up by this post, it's really funny!
It's a mean post, but one of the funnier ones.

The Empire Strikes Back wasn't directed by JJ Abrams.

TFA won't age like a fine wine; quite the opposite, it will turn to vinegar.

I heard this exact statement quite a bit back in '99.

We all know what happened after that....

I couldn't agree more! I think this was an excellent build up for whats to come. I was entertained the whole time! I obviously wanted more but we still have 2 more films to go. I can't wait for the extended version or to see the deleted scenes.

Deleted scenes will be interesting to see for sure, or an extended version or directors cut of sorts.

It's not even that. With The Empire Strikes Back, I distinctly remember my dad telling me how bummed out he felt with the overall dour note of the ending and the knowledge that he'd have to wait three more years until they made the next one. Years later, it's his favorite OT movie due to how well it ultimately fits in with everything - the PT included.

    J. J. Abrams recently said that the franchise wouldn't have been as successful if it had started with The Empire Strikes Back. He argued that it's a great film on its own, but it's not the best place to start the franchise off.

A lot more is going to become clear in the future, to continue to make this trilogy stronger and stronger.

I just watched it for the 2nd time in 3D, I liked it better in 2D visually, but I still love it!

As the first part of a trilogy, it was outstanding. Makes me really excited for Episode 8.

fore sure....it's a origin and set-up story. I was surprised J.J. made it feel as fast as it was.

Remember how slow the first half of ANH.....

I'm noticing a trend with the haters. I'm thinking either eu fanboys, Luke enthusiast or personal character archs not matching their vision. I curbed my personal feelings and took the movie for what it was and absolutely loved the new direction. it seems the critics agree with my oppinions. Can't please everyone I guess

I voted "no" because to me it already is good, but not great. There are a few weaknesses that won't go away over time, just as the Ewok problem never went away, and ROTJ continues to suffer for it.

This movie has the same problem that amazing spider man 2 has they both don't have a plot and are ads for upcoming movies.
