I don't understand why we don't get more Darth Vader...what was he doing while all of this is going on? I would hope that he is included more as the show goes on.

At this point in the show they are only beginning to be considered a credible threat to the empire, hence Tarkins visit. As the show progresses and the rebels get bolder in their acts against the empire, I bet we will begin to see more of Vader. But I do agree more of Vader is not a bad thing.

I hope we never see Vader interact with the rebels. Giving him a few scenes with the inquisitor would be fine though. A new hope starts just after the rebels had their first victory against the empire. Thus the rebels won't have "major victories" in the show. I bet the show will focus more on the characters. Maybe the series finale can be that "first victory".

The thing is that this is like ESB or ANH. The Emperor wasn't the villain. Vader was.

Similarly the villain is not really Vader in Rebels. It's the inquisitor. I think it's important to really show how sinister this character is independently from Vader. I think this last episode gave us that with the (spoiler) inquisitor kills the two generals in Tarkin's office. I wouldn't say no Vader but I would say that they should keep his role limited. He's almost a legend that nobody ever sees in this and makes him look like even more of the evil mastermind that he is in ANH.

I don't like that at all. They can't have encountered Han AND Lando in a 1 year period when neither were involved in the rebellion at that time and nowhere close to even wanting to involve themselves in the rebellion.

At some point Fulcrum (ahem, Ahsoka) is going to have to meet Vader which will produce one hell of an episode but until then why not let him sit ominously in the background. After all he is the most symbolic character ever and just being the backbone of the baddies is powerful.

But honestly, imagewise, Tarkin was essentially the role of Emperor's right hand man, not Vader (Vader release him! "As you wish") so I think it weird to have Tarkin instead of Vader since Tarkin is more or less Vader's boss.

Yea, and when that episode arises, Let Vader's interaction with the Ghost crew parallel A New Hope. Have Ahsoka split off from the rebels, confront vader, Ahsoka is killed, Kanaan yells Nooo!! and then the Ghost escapes

I got the impression from the Tarkin book that the Emperor and Vader let him think that at least when it came to the workings of the Empire but that was only to allow them to not bother themselves as much with that and focus more on continuing their growth in the dark side of the force.

I see. I haven't read the Tarkin novel. Heard it was hard to get through...you recommend it?

I enjoyed it. It really does a good job of getting into the mind of Tarkin and why he is as ruthless as he is. It does jump around some with flashbacks to his younger years or explanations of how he got into Palpatine's service. I guess that could make it hard to get through if it is not something you are used to.
