It was a great plot to close the journey started back in 1977.

After further digesting, Ben Solo is finally with his family and it was Han who brought him home, from a certain point of view. I would've preferred Reylo, but he's no longer with people that will abuse him. So there is that.

Palpatine did not have anything to do with Anakin's creation. Period.

Hey in another discussion just realized why they showed the light speed skipping stuff at beginning. It was to answer TLJ question of why didnt First Order just do a super quick jump and jump in front of Resistance ships. Showed that even super short jumps still go massive distances, far more then what was needed to get in front of Resistance. Would have ended up a solar system away or something like that.

Showing that Leia was trained by Luke also answers TLJ question/complaint of how she could get back to the ship using the force.

Han was just a memory by Ben, so Ben brought himself home. Ben could only redeem himself.

Some random thoughts after my 4th viewing, some new today, some that have been brewing and I haven't put anywhere else:

That moment where Babu Frik pops up, a little porg-like, in Zorii’s ship over Exegol makes me laugh every time so far.

That moment where Ben says “Dad...” and his memory of Han says “I Know...” makes me well-up every time so far.

"Irony”. Threepio refers to irony, related to what he can't say. And what he can't say is rooted in his programming not allowing him to translate Sith runes. Who do we know who infamously referred to something being "ironic" before in the saga? I thought that was pretty cool.

Rey’s lightsaber ‘torch’ in blue - Poe’s torch is a dimmer light in green. Perhaps suggesting (can you foreshadow with a torch? lol) the time for something new for Rey Skywalker instead of the more traditional green saber of Jedi masters (e.g. Qui-Gon, Yoda, ROTJLuke)

Palpatron 3000’s Sith Temple looks like a huge creepy sand crawler - echoing the beginning of ANH. At the end of the film we get to see another sand crawler, but here the shot is smaller and unimposing. The circle is complete.

How great is that shot of Rey levitating, meditating, with the rocks going round her... "Be with me..." ? I seem to recall JJ or RJ describing how that was going to be pretty much how Luke appeared at the end of TFA, but RJ wanted it changed for (now quite obvious) reasons.

Force Ghost Luke raising the X-Wing is kinda special for me... the scene in TESB where he fails to do that then Yoda does it and tells Luke why he failed is one of, if not pretty much my favourite scene in film, and the fact here we get Luke, as part of the Force doing that so effortlessly is mid-blowing to me. Not just because it's Luke, as such, but because it's the Force as Luke... two as one. A theme running through the movie... yes, next point:

Twos! So many twos in this movie. Two porgs, two ewoks, two transports (when they get Chewie), the Sith rule of two, the dark and the light, two lightsabers, twin suns, Luke and Leia... and of course the Force Dyad, Rey and Ben. Because when there are two, you are never alone.

D-O is so cute, like an abused puppy D-O-G...

Jannah says "Zed" not 'Zee'! As a Brit I enjoyed that one. :D

The way Chewie gets not just a medal, but likely Han's medal, feels to me like it is something that would have been brilliant if it had always been planned that way, and addresses both the lack of a medal in ANH and the lack of a hug from Leia that Abrams said he regretted in TFA.

The soundtrack is killing me. I mean I love it, when I say it's killing me I mean because my favourite piece of music in the film isn't on the officially released soundtrack (as good as it is). It's the 'light' version of (what was) Kylo Ren's theme once he's Ben again, most prominently played in the Sith Temple near the end with Rey. It's in my head the same way that a little phrase from the Avengers Endgame got in my head for weeks and I really really want that music to listen to whenever I want! (Yes, I can hear Yoda saying "Patience, PATIENCE").

That was all a bit random, but there we go. :)

I would love to know the back story about Poe and the lady in red. When she showed part of her face the movie got my attention back.

I keep wondering the impact on the galaxy at large. Not just the First Order being gone. Remember how the New Republic kind of forgot some of the outer rim systems? Who is in charge? Will it just go on as it always has? Kanjiklub?

The Chewie death fake out was lame, but it did show some empathy from Ren/Ben. I kind of liked that bit. It wasn't clear if he was doing like in space in TLJ when he wouldn't push the button to blow up Leia as Chewie was a representative of a family member, or if it was just empathy for Rey. Either way, it was a nice moment for me.

It's proably been mentioned before but I like how Rey handed the saber to Finn and his pose mirrored the promo material for TFA.

Shot of Chewie getting on a ship. There is a shot of two ships that no one I know spotted on the 1st viewing although it is clear as day.

I don't think Kylo was ever meant to be menacing or the ultimate big guy. His Character was to conflicted for that. He was always meant to be on the fence in order to reasonably justify his redemption.

Force ghost Anakin should advise his grandson not to follow the path of the dark side. It's incredibly odd that Anakin appears to Luke at the end of ROTJ and that the book about Luke's writings about the Jedi mention that he continued to communicate with him, but Kylo Ren talks to Vader's helmet and supposedly hears a response but Anakin doesn't show up to say, "Hey, that's not me talking to you" or "Dark side = bad" or anything else. A few words from Anakin might have spared the galaxy the whole mess of the First Order. But that doesn't allow the story we got, so it didn't happen.

Now, if there were some explanation that Anakin couldn't communicate with Kylo for some reason, like dark side users can't communicate with force ghosts, or ANYTHING else, it would make sense. But, explaining things is for losers according to JJ Abrams.

Yes. I have a hard time understanding comments along the line of "Kylo's not a convincing villain".

    Well, yes, that's the point.

There's always the option that Anakin let it happen because he saw it all and knew this was the destined path.

I'm not saying this is the reason, but with Star Wars' logic, this can't be ruled out as possible.

Star Wars has a lot of "he works in mysterious ways" moments.

    Cheers,
    Jayson

I don't believe someone that has become one with the light can appear or communicate with someone on the dark side, even if they are conflicted. It may also be why the force ghosts could not appear to Rey while Palpatine was present and why Obi-Wan couldn't "interfere" once Luke was in the presence of Vader in ESB.
