THR: Obi Wan Movie Planned

I didn't see any mention of the date planned? Surely nobody other than Ewan would be considered!

 

Ewan's status is not known. Given his desire, there's no way he isn't involved.
And I cant see them not using Ewan given the track record of the Han Solo movie.
This director + Ewan screams safe.

 

The only way I could see them not doing Ewan would be if they were going to do a movie about his and Qui Gon's time on Mandalore. Bring Neeson back (since he has aged really well) and cast someone young to play teen Obi.

 

I really can't see them doing anything before the prequels right now, to me Disney seems to disregard the prequels a little bit and favours the original trilogy heavily, I think they will set it 5-10 years after ROTS given they can give it an OT kind of feel and look plus it would match ewans age, also can't see it being too close to ANH as the actor would have to heavily resemble sir Alec Guinness for continuity

 

I'm not saying that thats what they'll do, I'm saying the only way Ewan won't be in it is if it has to be a younger actor. It will most likely be set in the 20 years or maybe during the Clone Wars. The thing about Ewan is that he does resemble Alec a lot and with minimal effort I think they can make him look exactly like Old Ben if they wanted.

I'm glad about an Obi Wan movie. That being said they need more originality and they need to move away from the original trilogy timeline after that.

 

Has it been confirmed it's an Obi-Wan film and not just a rumor?

 

I liked McGreggor as Obi-Wan, and I'm sure this will turn out well. But I just can't get excited about another back story movie. As good as Rogue One, it never felt very consequential because I already knew how it would end. The same goes for the upcoming Han Solo movie. I want to see movies that push the story forward, or go back to an entirely different era.

And based on the fact that this news broke hours ago and has barely generated 10 posts in this thread, it doesn't seem like there's much excitement for this film.

 

I want an original tale as well but this is unfortunately Hollywood; they're playing it safe. I also think Disney is solely making Star Wars films to please the OT fans. I hope the new OB1 film is set in the Prequel era, but we will have to wait and see their plans. I would also like to see Anakin, Ashoka, and Grievous some how in this standalone film. Since OB1 is my favorite character, ANH is my favorite film in the franchise, I'll just have to take whatever they put forward. Hoping its good.

 

It would definitely have to take place before the events of Rebels since Obi-Wan killed Maul on Tatooine. Any mention of Maul will confuse the audience that don't follow the supplement materials.

 

This is the kind of movie that would be in development hell.
