    Quick question-

Nearing the end of the book, and I came upon the section where Thrawn discovers a Star Destroyer that had been attacked and Wookie slaves had been freed. Is that supposed to be the Star Destroyer where the Ghost crew rescued Wookie slaves in Spark of Rebellion. Seems a lot darker than that, but I couldn't help but wonder.

I don't think so it's been a while since I watched that episode but didn't the Wookie escape where in the book these Wookies go back to attack the insterlation that they came from.

@Addi Ras is correct, in Rebels the Wookies were freed by Ghost crew on Kessel and then picked up by their own ship. In Thrawn they returned to the prison to free others, but Thrawn sealed them in, effectively recapturing all those who returned.

Another Thrawn highlight targeting the imperial installation to trap the escaped prisoners & help out the imperial garrison. I just loved the poor facility head enquiringly about why he is firing on him only for Thrawn to tell him exactly what he is doing & why just classic Thrawn.

    HELP!!!!
Has the interaction between Anakin Skywalker and Thrawn made it into any form of Canon aside from the mention in the Thrawn Novel? Is it in a comic? I have not caught up CANON-wise on comics yet but I thought Anakin and Obiwan was the only comic about any part of Anakin Skywalker's life; or was this a LEGENDS reference yet to be clarified in the CANON-land??? Is there at least a reference to the Thrugii System in canon?

I feel like it ended with intent to continue. Maybe it will be another trilogy and Zahn knows it, so get us into Thrawn's head and hooked then take our supply away abruptly so we come back hard with Thrawn II and III.

There is not any mention except here and this is not a Legends reference, obviously Story Group either gave Zahn permission to write it in or suggested that meeting due to the timeline. I know that Zahn is pitching the book about that meeting to Del Rey. Is that a system where they've met? If so, the same answer, according to Wookeepedia, just some Atlas book. So we can expect more somewhere. :)

    Such a good book.

I'm thinking Chiss may have a long life expectancy, like Yoda's species. Especially given Thrawn was willing to go through the Academy and a successful Imperial career just for research for the Chiss Ascendancy. He was around during the Clone Wars, so by human terms fairly old to be going into the military post order 66. And since Thrawn's and Yoda species are in 24/7 chill demeanor mode, stress doesn't cut their lifespan down, they learn to calculate.

    (time stamped)

Zahn pitched two sequels and he is waiting for the Story Group to approve timeline.

Well...the book started out nicely and ended well. In between, not so much. I wish there had been some conflict or real danger that made me wonder for just one second if everything was going to turn out okay. (And Thrawn's body language reading should have been used much more sparingly. There are ways to convey that without boring the reader with it five or six times a chapter.) It was nice to see Vanto mature into a leader and see what makes Thrawn tick as a tactician, but....just nice, IMO. Not page-turning.

I appreciate that we had parallel journeys--Thrawn and Pryce. Pryce turns into a monster through her machinations for personal power, Thrawn, not so much. (If I were Pryce's parents, I would find a nice anonymous corner of the galaxy far, far away from my dear daughter!) Thrawn's motivations are less clear, but assumed to be "noble" if extremely utilitarian, and we get in the end a little slice of the picture of Thrawn's own machinations for his people. I think the best part of the book is the glimpse into the possibilities re: the end of the Empire, and who's waiting for Rae Sloane in the Unknown Regions. So yes, I think the Chiss knew of the same evil that was "calling" to Palpatine, but I think they would oppose it, not assimilate it. Veeeerry interesting. We have Sloane and Vanto? and possibly Thrawn (if those Rebels don't get him! ;)) in the Unknown Regions at the end of the Empire, and yet by the time of TFA we have Snoke and the FO.

A few points about the audiobook: (1) Vader's breathing sounds like somebody snoring. (2) Using the Force theme for Arihnda Pryce's action scenes is deeply repulsive to me. (3) We don't really need alien voices distorted to the point where they are practically outside the range of human hearing. (4) Since when do we need radio drama instead of a book reading? Sound effects (especially bad ones) are distracting.

No, I "read" A:EE via audiobook. Mr. Bones's voice almost sent me to an ear specialist. I can't read and drive at the same time though (well, I could but...), so audiobooks are the next best thing.

One of Thrawn readers on tumblr did a great job at pinpointing book's timeline. It might not be 100% accurate, but it gives you the right idea.

@LadyMusashi Thanks for posting this as it does help to work out what was happening when in Thrawn compared to Rebels as one of my friends was insisting that all of Thrawn took place before Rebe
The season 1 which didn't make sense to me at least now I can show him this as evidence that Thrawn finishes just before Season 3.

The novel finishes a few weeks before Season 3, Pryce clearly tells Thrawn (paraphrasing): Go, get your accolades and we'll see each other again soon. That doesn't mean, we'll see each other in three years which would be the case if the novel ended before the first season. So, yes, you can tell your friend: SEE, I WAS RIGHT! :D

Of note with the tumblr timeline confusion of Eli being called a "commander" and a "lieutenant commander" in virtually the same sentence. To me when I read that I just thought back to the somewhat common practice of casually referring to lieutenant colonels as colonels, again this is only in a casual circumstance. It could be an error or it was also an attempt by Zahn to reference such a practice

For @JeffG. in answer to differences between old and new Thrawn. Obviously, there will be spoilers, but I don't think they'll diminish your enjoyment in the book if you choose to read it.

The biggest difference as far as I know (as I said, I didn't read the trilogy, just comic adaptation that wasn't very good) is that Thrawn was not exiled, but sent by the Chiss (though the Empire believes he was), that his loyalty to the Empire is actually loyalty to his own people, that he sees the corruption of the Empire and has plans for that too, but he supports it because it will help him fight 'bigger evil'.

Also, he does everything to save lives. I defined him as true Lawful Neutral.

From the point of view of Rebels characters, he is a villain (obviously), when you read his POW, he is much more nuanced. I was actually rooting for him until the very specific point in the book, when I literally said out loud: "Oh, no, no, you cannot rationalize this, Thrawn." He is not really a villain, but he isn't a good guy either. I don't know if I am explaining this well. He's complicated, lol.

Great book. As a fan of Thrawn I am happy character is back into canon.
Book offers answers but even more questions :
Thrawn mentions to Palpatine there is treat from Unknown regions, obviously very dangerous one that is opressing his people but could endanger Empire to. Is this treat Snoke(it seems obvious to me)?
What will happen to Thrawn in the show Rebels?
Will he be killed in his fight against the Rebellion?
Will he lose a great battle but survive? Perhaps he abandons his ambitions with the Empire deeming it too weak to confront the evils in unknown space?
Will the Emperor withdraw Thrawn from his fight with the rebels and send him to the Unknown Regions?
What's about his race Chiss ascendance, are they an ally or the treat?

In the Legends, the threat was Yuuzhan Vong, but, yes, several of us here hope that it is Snoke or/and his kind.

Obviously, Filoni gave us something to chew on by introducing Rukh (Thrawn's killer in Legends). I really hope that they don't kill him. It seems pointless to kill him after two seasons of Rebels and a single book. So, I am hoping that Filoni is trolling, something is known to do.

Thrawn cannot lose against the Rebels, first Rebellion's victory is Scarif. As long the Empire is strong and at this point it is, Thrawn will not abandon it.

I think this is most likely. Palpatine is very confident at this point in time. He has all the power, Death Star is going great and he is prepared to turn his attention to the Unknown Regions and the Dark Side he is feeling there.

Ally to whom? It seem that they are all about self-preservation and while they are not fans of preemptive strikes, I do believe they could share some of Thrawn's philosophy - ally themselves to the strong or shove weak under the truck or AT-AT. :D

In other words, we will see. The future of Thrawn and Chiss is opened and uncertain. I hope Lucasfilm gives Zhan the opportunity to shepherd his future, because the old timeline no longer works.
