Hello Cantina members. I was thinking. Since we all know Grand Admiral Thrawn has been made officially canon via Star Wars Rebels, then we all also know that Thrawn is the most popular extended universe character that has been accepted as canon by the higher ups in the star wars production universe. Seeing this awesome occurrence in motion, IMO, it's ups the chances that we may indeed see a Grand Admiral Thrawn Stand alone movie. I know the average moviegoer has no clue who Thrawn is. However, many Star Wars Rebel fans didn't know anything about him either and Disney still wen't with it which in turn, raises my hopes. Thoughts?

Maybe, depending on whether he survives Rebels. Whatever happens to him on that show will heavily impact his future in Star Wars media.

I totally agree with you there. I'm thinking they may keep him around just to keep that option open. But that's just me.

There is a small chance of Thrawn appering in Ep. VIII or IX, no? I meant, what about Del Toro role in the movie, he told that he will be a bad guy, and he kinds me remind of Thrawn.

I've always liked the idea of him being humiliated by Kanan and co. at the end of Rebels season 3. The Emperor, Grand Moff Tarkin, or both would be most displeased, and he would be exiled to the unknown regions as punishment. This could possibly lead to a unique horror-based installment involving Yuuzhan Vong scouts.

They would have to be drastically changed however, as they were just too overpowered in Legends.

There was talk of doing an arc on TCW in which the main cast finds a centuries-old Republic cruiser in the Unknown Regions, investigate, and have to deal with some Yuuzhan Vong, and the episodes would've had an X-Files "monster of the week" feel to them. That the idea was considered is absolutely amazing.

I don't think Thrawn's going to get too badly embarrassed. But I could definitely see him overestimate the Ghost crew and get himself placed on a more out-of-the way assignment.

    Yeah, I heard of that.

I was trying to come up with a reason for the Ysalamir to be reintroduced. If Thrawn suffers a major defeat at the hands of a force-sensitive, then he'd seek out an instrument to neutralise their advantage with in the future. Because the Vong are force-resistant, perhaps they too are seeking out the Ysalamir for sinister purposes :).

Apparently ysalamir won't be a thing in canon, Feloni already confirmed that. :(

Filoni confirmed that he wouldn't be doing that. He never said it wouldn't happen :).

No, it won't happen. The reason: the general public has no clue who he is. The public knows Han Solo. They know Obi Wan Kenobi. They know Boba Fett. A character-based spinoff movie would only be made from a financial standpoint based on how bankable a character is and that they would draw a wide audience.

I agree that it won't happen as a standalone Thrawn movie. R1 was a small risk, Solo is playing it safe.. they won't base the third film on a relatively unknown character.

he is coming.. Thrawn is coming.

it's just a case of when, as he is clearly in Lucasfilm's long term plans. They wouldn't put him into Rebels as some token fan thing just to kill him off, and i don't think we will see him outwitted either.

He is now canon. at some point soon (probably in rebels) will discover something that gives scope for him to disappear before ANH to return later. The guy is a brilliant strategist.. the empire would not have lost 2 death stars had he been involved. it's possible that he anticipated the emperors demise and planned ahead... building the FO after the battle of Endor.

He is sitting in Disney's back pocket right now... he's coming ;)

If Ahsoka can't get a spinoff movie, than Thrawn shouldn't. Some characters are best left in novels and cartoons.....

    .... says most people.
I for one love the idea of a Thrawn movie. (I'm just a bit doubtful we're going to see it.)

I don't think we'll get a Thrawn-centric spin-off film. Instead, I think that if Thrawn shows up on screen it would as the main antagonist of say a Rogue Squadron movie, which could (maybe, possibly) happen. I wouldn't say it's third-tier first-phase capable, but maybe second-phase?

Might we see him in a film? Maybe, though unlikely I think. Will he have a stand alone film? No chance.

Thrawn is beloved amongst the hardcore fans, but that's not near enough people to support a spin off film. Plus, it would be the first spin off led by an alien instead of a human, two big risks that just don't make the film worth it. IF we get a spin off film headlined by an alien it will be someone familiar to the wider movie going audience like Yoda.
