It would be dope if we got a film that relates to Legends and acknowledges Timothy Zahn and other author's work to bring the character to life. Although we do have the Thrawn book, which has not been released yet. It would be cool but I doubt it would happen. I reckon in the first thirty minutes it shows him as this General by Palpatine's side during the Clone Wars, does something wrong and gets exiled by the Jedi (loosely like the original book) and must roam a jungle world and find his inner self. Thrawn is found, and after a quick skirmish, the Imperials take him to Palpatine. The rest is glory.

Such a good character, but I think he looks much better as a cartoon/drawing/figment of the imagination. On screen I don't think it would look so good with other real life actors. Also, fans who aren't so die hard like all of us may not really understand or know who he is, so lucasfilm and Disney may worry it won't sell as well.

I agree. Looks great on Rebels, but unless he translate good things the big screen there is a chance he could end up looking Smurfy.

He's also too vague to have his own movie...then again, so are the main characters of R1 but they tied perfectly into the overall saga. Thrawn's absence would need to be explained in great detail

Also if you think about it, all the spinoffs so far are kind of directly linked to the continuation of the main saga in some way or another, whereas I feel thrawn would be a story that's not so linked to what we have already seen in the films
