You're right. Neither the prequel nor the sequel characters are remotely as well known and beloved as the classic trilogy "big 3". That's a statement you'll never see me disagree with.

You mentioned E8's financial "success." I responded with the fact/prediction that it is only the 3rd most financially successful movie in the 5 month period starting on its release date. How is that changing the subject?

My opinion is that a main-episodic installment of Star Wars getting beaten twice within the next 4 months after its release - which it will - shows how far the franchise has fallen. Even the prequels avoided that.

And I am clearly responding with the fact that it got passed 2 months later and the prediction that within the 5 month period starting with E8's release, it will end up #3. I did not mean to upset you with this factual statement..

Please note how I am not saying your statement regarding CY2017 is incorrect. I am just extended the facts beyond that arbitrary timeframe. Perhaps you oppose those statements so vehemently because it does not support your narrative?

Oh yeah, you claimed something was a fact that was simply your opinion. Not a big deal.

 

I disagree that referencing the 5 month period after the movie came out is a change of subject when someone mentions the 11 month period prior. It is a valid counterpoint.

Please allow me to clarify what I am stating as fact and what is opinion:

FACT: E8 got beaten by another movie 2 months after it came out (Black Panther)
PREDICTION: It will get beat again within another 2 months (and I am hardly going out on a limb with that prediction as Infinity War is already tracking ahead of even Black Panther)
OPINION: It is disheartening how far the Star Wars franchise has fallen when a main-episodic installment gets beaten twice within 5 months of release.

 

Hmmmmm......and we're STILL equating box office gross with some indication of quality even though that's ridiculous....hmmmmmmm.

Come on. How about we stop with the "TLJ only made 1.3 billion dollars and got beat by Black Panther boooooo" and go with something more like "Congrats to Coogler and everyone who worked on Black Panther!"

I agree, the idea is silly. However, some regularly mention E8's financial success as if it is indicative of a quality movie, so it is worth mentioning how quickly it was surpassed.

Just a thought to @master_shaitan, @DailyPlunge and friends:

Part of what keeps this thread alive is the back and forth discussion between fans of the movie and those this thread was made for.

Do what you'd like, but you're not going to change anyone's minds here. I'd just let this thread exist as a place for people to voice their frustrations (as it was intended), and we can have literally the rest of the forum as a more optimistic place.

Just a thought.

Shhh! Don't tell them to stop posting here, we must keep this hate thread alive!! What would we do without those who obviously disagree with the whole concept of this thread popping in and trying to set us on the path of righteousness? Besides, I'm hoping that I feel the opposite about Ep. IX and if I love it then I plan to go into the hate thread and stir things up. Some posters have given me many ideas on what to post and I will be using classic comebacks such as, "You had too many expectations and it's YOUR fault you were disappointed!" "You're mad because your head cannon didn't come true!" "It all makes complete sense, you're just stuck in the past!" and of course, "Any low ratings ANYWHERE are from Russian bots, they are everywhere!!" I can't wait for December 2019.

I'm totally kidding here, and won't bother going into a thread that I disagree with looking for an argument.

 

My foremost goal is not to change anyone's mind. I love applicable discussion between both sides, and THAT is what I defend. And this thread is where many of the interesting points of the film are raised.

But apparently my posting, along with that of @DailyPlunge, @AfraidFool (who made some wonderful threads and discussions, and has now left due to the mods) and others, is too "negative" and has me in trouble with the mods again. For the fourth time, I think?

Your 3) is not possible when you punish valid responses to posts from Trolls who disregard fact based discussion and instead post in generalized opinion.
