We are all free to our own interpretations, but I gotta tell you I don't see how it is possible to read "The FIRST ORDER reigns" and think "well, they have maybe several battle groups but no control over systems."

So I am totally impressed that this thread is still as active as it is. I have seen it all point/counter points, calling out your mary sue and that is racism. I totally get that you hate the movie enough to keep this thread powering on almost a year later. But what if you just stop? Stop posting here. Would the stress go away. How many times has something post here just got under your skin and then you couldn't sleep. Come out and play with the rest of us, we miss you. Than we can do that talking about things we like and just stop pounding a dead horse. You can still hate all you want but just stop letting it rule over you. Movie sucked and move on. There are some people that only post negative stuff, so I am here reaching out to you saying come back. we cant changed what we got but we can change how much it can matter to us.

Do you think those of us who post exclusively in the HATE thread do nothing else with our lives or our time? You think we don't indulge in other media, or participate in other fandoms? When it comes to discussing Star Wars specifically, this kind of all we have. Our lives aren't just hating the new Star Wars films and nothing else...I'm well aware that's exactly what the people in the pro-TLJ camp think of the posters in this thread...but the reason jaded fans post here is because their dislike extends well beyond just TLJ. The entire direction of the ST is the source of disdain for those that frequent these threads. And I don't know how long you've been into Star Wars, but when there's a new trilogy and new cast of characters out, the characters, setting and trappings of that trilogy dominate almost all of the current Star Wars media. There isn't any escaping Rey, Poe, Finn, or the crown prince of Hot Topic Cringe that is Kylo Ren. They are EVERYWHERE in regards to Star Wars. They're the focus of advertising, spin-off material, comics, novels, you name it. You say "move on and play with the rest of us"...in regards to what, exactly? The next film to be released is Episode 9 of the trilogy. The animated series currently airing is set in the era/conflict of the ST, featuring characters from that trilogy. There is no alternative for fans who harbor nothing but disappointment and resentment towards these new movies and characters. You want us to move on, but for many of us, there's nothing of quality or worth to move on to (outside of the Expanded Universe, which on these forums is a dead topic that no one wants to discuss or delve into during their non-canon status, so don't expect a wealth of hype and speculation threads dedicated to it).You can preach positivity all you like, but there's almost nothing to direct positivity towards given the lukewarm and woefully uncreative state of Star Wars at the moment.

Not to mention that ragging on the Prequel Trilogy was the internet's favorite contact sport for an entire decade before the Sequel Trilogy, and there were no calls to "stop being negative and let all the stress and pain drift away." Just because it's being directed towards a movie you happen to like doesn't make it any less legitimate, healthy or constructive than any of the discussions on the Prequels. Remember that before applying this double-standard of being "overly negative" towards the ST.

Not say that at all I am saying you can hate them as much as you want and I am not all about the ST, what I am saying is come out and play. I have interacted with you on other things and like some of your opinions. The OT, PT or ST I don't care if you love them or hate them. TLJ left people bitter and unhappy, I understand. All I am doing is trying to get us on this forum to interact more!!! I know how dare I. I have been a fan for a long time which does not mean I like SW anymore or less then you or anyone else in the entire world. And as you know I post a ton of not SW related stuff on here because we all have other interest. So I am deeply sorry my hey come talk to us offended you. Maybe the fandom is dead or maybe SW is dead who knows. I joined this site because as people we aren't dead and I will take my preachy A$$ somewhere else.

I will give you one thing your rebuttal is well worded and points out a ton of great counters. So despite the couple of jabs I gave you a wise rating because at least I know where you stand versus some who default to some pretty generic answers.

Nothing you said is preachy, much less offensive.

I'm just trying to drive home the point that there's this new narrative being spun that those that openly dislike the new films, and largely contribute to these forums to express their dislike of it, are doing it solely for unhealthy, stress-related, or depressive reasons. This couldn't be farther from the truth. Venting out one's frustrations on the films is quite therapeutic for a lot of people, especially when they're often silenced or downvoted to oblivion on other threads or forums. This thread is a place of solace and refuge for a lot of disgruntled fans. And while I'd love to hop onto some other threads to talk extensively about my favorite episodes of Rebels or how amazing the New Jedi Order books I'm currently reading are, the fact of the matter is that the only topics being churned with feverish discussion are speculation for the Sequel Trilogy. All other topics are pretty much dead or ignored at this point---and that's me being realistic, not somber. You can see my posts on other random threads on occasion, but that's once in a blue moon.

For people like me, who hate the new films with an unyielding passion (and a perfectly healthy one at that, despite what many fans will try to contest), there really isn't a place for us other than this thread. Every other thread is about what people are excited to see in the new film, or what they love about The Last Jedi. You can understand why there wouldn't be a lot for me to contribute to those threads. I'd do more to hamper people's enjoyment with my extensive, scathing rants than anything else.

I appreciate your attempt to rationalize and encourage fans to be more positive. But with so little to be positive about, there's not much else than to take our frustrations to this thread.

Not all of us are exclusive to the Hate thread. I simply like the discussions here and lets face it, people on both sides of the love/hate equation keep coming back. I'm open to talking about the issues I have with the movie with anyone who has questions. Also, Darth Nabunaga makes some great points too. Until SW comes out with something outside of this timeline, this thread is sort of my default. I think the raging forest fire has mostly died down to a camp fire, discussions are much more diplomatic than in the past.

It is healthy to voice one unhappiness. All new stuff out has been unsettling to say the least quantity over quaily. I saw what they did Star Trek shiney kligions. When it comes to me jumping on here now and then it is me saying i dont want you to think that just because we dont agree on everything doesnt mean we cant talk. It sometimes seems we are all so devivded. Phone typing sucks. The only way we may be able to get a change is if we start come back together and then work as a united group and say put out better stuff.

No they are not, they are the shadow of what the empire was. The FO has not even improved on any of the tech from the Empire. They made a small version of the main laser from the Death Star but it was not easy to move or anything that made it great beneficial. All they did was fill the power vacuum left by the Empire.

The decline of star wars as a search term. Still popular versus other brands, but measured against itself it's down and back to pre-TFA teaser levels or worse.

We'll be able to see if the marketing for IX can get the interest numbers up again and what that portends for its box office.

100% agree. First Order is the shell of the Empire. Nothing more at this point, especially after TLJ. Thing is so is the Resistance. So a big part of Ep9 is which group can build/rebuild faster.

It doesn't leave a lot of hope for EPIX could be 2 hours of team building and 10 mins of action.

Nothing huge was going on in the public sphere between each of the Prequel Trilogy movies either, and yet the brand managed to retain its immense popularity. Largely through really successful video games, comics, novel story arcs, and things like the Clone Wars multi-media project (which filled in the 2-year void of AOTC). And that's to say nothing of non-film decade following ROTS, where we had The Force Unleashed, the Legacy comics, the continuing novels, the SWTOR MMO, and the Clone Wars TV series, the merchandise for which was absolutely trumping the current Hasbro offerings in terms of sales and interest...and that's toys for a TV Show versus toys for a movie.

Now, there are video games, novels, and comics for the new canon as well. To say they're having the same runaway success as the PT-era material is, well....optimistically dubious, to say the least. And that's to say nothing of their actual quality...I won't speak for anyone, but all three mediums for the current era are filled with either mediocre or awful offerings. I legitimately thought I'd be able to weather this new trilogy of films out by sticking to the novels and comics exclusively, but I've received nothing but disappointment.

Rebels was the first, last, and only good thing to come out of the new canon.

I tried reading the new novels that Disney had written after TFA, and found I couldn’t get into them. I don’t know why. And I started reading them before TLJ. I purchased seven books and haven’t finished any of them. I started re-reading the original books from thrawn on.

The imagination and ambition isn't there. They aren't attempting sweeping, epic story arcs with consequence or long-lasting impact. No interesting characters whose adventures are exclusive to the novels are being introduced. Multiple eras aren't being covered. Risks aren't being taken.

Meanwhile, I'm reading a massive EU story arc where the battered remnants of the Empire actually save the New Republic and join forces with them against a sinister, galaxy-consuming threat, while the protagonists in the form of the Solo Children go from naive teenagers to battle-hardened adults under the pressure and tragedy of the surrounding conflict.

There was more creative nuance and ambition in a page of EU material than all of the Nu-Canon content combined, and that most certainly includes the creatively-bankrupt films.

And despite comic books themselves doing so poorly financially, to the point where both Marvel and DC have been delisted from the New York Times Bestseller's list and comic book sales being at an all time low since the Comics Crash of the 90's, the MCU is still making money, the Marvel attractions at theme parks are still popular, and Comic Con is still a very Marvel-centric event in terms of popularity.

It's almost like a brand can still retain popularity in certain circles despite not doing well at all or not capturing a wealth of interest in other areas. That doesn't mean the brand is doing well on all fronts, much less the ones that matter most. The money and popularity Disney rakes in from their Star Wars-related Theme Park attractions doesn't patch up the RMS Lusitania-sized disaster that is Hasbro's Star Wars Toy sales. The blitz of con-goers at Star Wars Celebration, likely there to cosplay, meet franchise stars, or obtain rare or valuable merchandise does not help EA or Dice as their gaming division nurses the financial black eye retained from the rancid fart that was Star Wars Battlefront II. However many parents or kids dressed up as Star Wars characters on Halloween doesn't change the fact that 75% of them probably opted to skip the recent Solo film, or not bother to purchase The Last Jedi on Blu-Ray (which according to media sales, sits at a third of what TFA made).

There isn't a Michael Bay Transformers or DCEU level of jaded consumer indifference towards the Star Wars Brand, but it isn't doing gangbusters in every department, especially considering the money and resources Disney's scrambling to put in to ensure it can. And these are problems that, like it or not, the preceding trilogy of films didn't have---and they had the disadvantage of being spaced apart and not released at the exhaustive schedule Disney was pushing out their films.

I finished Agents of Chaos I and II a month ago, and rushed out to obtain the hardcover omnibus for both. That book was absolutely fantastic, especially watching Jacen and Corran throughout the events of both.

New Jedi Order is so good that I'm honestly embarrassed and ashamed I didn't read it years ago. It's a bit tragic that it took the lack of creativity in the new films for me to really appreciate the kind of things EU authors were doing for the post-ROTJ continuity back in the day.
