As long as he's not continuing to damage the Star Wars franchise, I wish him all the happiness in the world.
    #facepalm

That last statement reminds me of when you said Avengers Endgame would miss box office projections because it was too long.

I wish I could say Rian Johnson and Kiri Hart going away is a guarantee Star Wars will be better in the future, however... Game of Thrones is increasingly more Benioff's X-Men Origins: Wolverine roots without George R. R. Martin holding their hands and Making Star Wars's alleged ending to Episode IX which I will not describe here is pretty stupid.

    Batman v Superman (Terrio)
    The Last Jedi (Johnson)
    X-Men Origins: Wolverine (Benioff)

How Star Wars gets stuck with these folks out of the thousands of scriptwriters that exist is pretty sad.

People obsessed with subversion. It doesn't take ANY TALENT to be subversive and do the opposite. A freakin' child can do it.

"My little angel would never take cookies out of the jar when I'm not looking."
Little Jimmy takes cookies out of the jar.
"I was just being subversive, ma!"

It takes talent to meet expectations. It takes EVEN MORE talent to exceed expectations. That's hard to do. Not everyone can do it. It's the most risky but also the most rewarding. Nowadays they just go for the cheap and easy options instead and deserve scorn for it.

Yep totally agree with all this. At this moment and I will get shot down for saying this and get denied But there are some serious problems with Lucasfilm at the moment and the biggest one was giving Rian Johnson the leash. However I am glass half full type of person. If you make mistakes, learn from them. Unfortunately, Lucasfilm seem to be a law to themselves. There making the same mistakes once again. In other threads I have said the same thing. I actually like TRoS trailer and the books do seem to infer some information that seems stimulating. Then I read rumour conversation and it's TLJ all over again. Banal archaic stories, more subversion handled in an unsatisfactory manner. They're not learning, same mistakes all over again. Rinse, set, repeat.

It just seems that this TLJ has ripped open flesh with executive decions and nobody is tending or treating the ailment. Such a shame. :(

Man people are lighting the torches on b&w faster than Luke thinking about killing his nephew. I swore they were gods pre-2019.

Hate Rian Johnson all you want, but after The Last Jedi there was a bidding war for next project and Knives Out has one of if not the best cast assembled for a film this year.
I was definitely wrong about that one, but I also didn't expect Endgame to be better than Infinity War. An A+ Cinemascore is impressive after all the hype.
Terrio won an Oscar for Argo. Blaming him entirely for Warner Brothers problems with DC is silly. I haven't been a huge fan of Game of Thrones for awhile, but I also don't blame it all on B&W who are adapting Martin's story. I'm sure they didn't plan on Martin dragging his feet on the books either. If the guy who came up with the story is struggling to write an ending I can't blame the TV guys for having some of the same problems.

I don't hate Rian Johnson and I would like to ask you not to put words in my mouth. He made a movie I dislike but I have never - not once - attacked him or his character personally. (In fact, I was the one defending his integrity against those who think he is a pathological liar and he was lying on all those countless occasions where he told us there was no overall plan for the sequel trilogy). Regardless, I am merely #facepalm-ing the ridiculous notion that there is some huge anticipatory demand for Knives Out. You really need to stop letting your personal feelings distort your view of reality.
Yeah, it has James Bond, Captain American and a bunch of people who were really famous in the 80's. What an ensemble!

If you go to Twitter and do a search on Knives Out, you get more posts that have absolutely nothing to do with the movie than are movie-related. So you can stop pretending that the movie-going public is eagerly anticipating this release with bated breath. It'll limp it's way to a mid 8-figure domestic box office and then be easily forgotten a couple weeks later.

I see your point. I think they were rushing the last two seasons. Especially season 8. The cost of each episode is partially to blame. But another factor could be that the creator of the story is usually the best to tell the story because they are more aware of who each character is. it’s the creators universe.

I, on the other hand have enjoyed all the seasons and I’m enjoying this last season. It’s funny I liked how the sopranos ended. I loved all the matrix movies. I liked how lost ended. I generally don’t have a problem with sequels. But I hate TLJ which made me dislike TFA. And Star Wars is my favorite.

Knives Out is one of the most anticipated non-franchise films coming out this year. If there wasn't an interest in the film then there wouldn't have been a bidding war to produce it.
There's no pretending here. I did mention "franchise films" because the movie going public sees on average 4 films a year and they're almost all franchise films. There is a film world outside franchise blockbusters. If you're not interested that's fine.
It also has General Zod in it if you're judging the cast on franchise films stars. :)

Anyway, I'm hopelessly off topic here.

The wonderful 'Eat-blast' Knives Out where the great director wants to be named alongside the great historical author Agatha Christie, sure

Well some of us were desperately trying to avoid the "you are just a book snob" comments that are inevitably thrown our way. Up to season 4 they had Martin holding their hands, working with them and what not. But when they decided to hack off HUGE parts of the last two books and say they weren't necessary they pissed off Martin (and I can see why). Further by coming out and telling people that Shireen's death would be in the Winds of Winter they further angered him. There are rumors that he has actually finished Winds of Winter and it is being held back until the show finishes as he doesn't want them to spoil anything anymore. Now whether or not that is true, I do think there was a falling out between B&D on the one hand and George on the other.

As for Johnson and Knives Out, I'm sure it is highly anticipated. But it is a different kind of film. He is a different kind of director. You don't hire Johnson to direct a Star Wars film or an Avengers film. I'm sure it will be a fine film, but that doesn't mean I want him doing Star Wars.

And I also don't hate him. I loved Looper. I still need to see Brick, as the wife swears it is an excellent film. But I don't think he will be doing anything with Star Wars in the future.

It appears that John Boyega isn't happy with the ST. Looks like he will be airing his views once the ST is completed. I remember Daisy was happy that JJ was coming back. Looks like we might have a GOT situation where once the ST is done we get to see what they really think. I have a feeling many of them weren't happy with that dumpster fire called TLJ.

I made the mistake of actually researching this claim. I led me down the usual rabbit hole of a bunch of YouTube faux outrage factories jumping to a conclusion about a tweet they didn't understand.

Difficult to believe people need their bias confirmed so desperately.

I agree. We've already seen Mark Hamill make a few veiled comments that are easy to read between the lines, and I won't be surprised when we see more of the same from the new actors. Now Boyega is making tweets showing a certain degree is dissatisfaction. Can't blame him after what E8 did to his character.

As more and more comes out from E9 - either confirmed news or rumors - it is becoming more and more painfully obvious that they are doing as much as reasonably possible to undo TLJ. The actors have voiced their displeasure and I don't think there is a single soul on God's green Earth who still thinks we are getting a Rian Johnson trilogy.

I haven't posted here in ages... I see the TLJ hate thread is still the most active. How ironic!:D I'll be interested to hear the actors feelings on Ep.8, maybe they won't say anything earth shattering and they all really LOVED what TLJ did with their characters? I do remember reading a quote from Daisy Ridley where she said that she cried tears of joy when she heard JJ was returning to do Ep. 9, so that makes me wonder. I have serious doubts about Rian Johnson still getting a trilogy or any SW movie for that matter. All Bob Iger has confirmed is that the Game of Thrones guys are doing the next trilogy. Not a peep about RJ.

I’m interested in hearing what the actors/actresses think as well. But if they are smart they will keep their opinions to themselves. Their job is to act not critique. If I was in their position I’d keep my mouth shut so I don’t lose out on any potential jobs in the future. It’s one thing if a well established ‘A’ list individual comments because they generally have more clout than actors that are still early in their careers.
I was surprised when I heard the GOT actors expressed some of their opinions.

Well, sometimes they want their opinions out there to help gain potential jobs in the future. "Yeah, this movie/TV show I was in sucked, but I didn't like it either and I did whatever I could to change it so don't blame me for how bad it was...."

I have zero problem whatsoever with actors sharing their thoughts on the roles they play, and I prefer honest opinions over pretending everything was roses and sunshine.

I think there's a way to express their opinion and still be professional about it. They can still say if they were disappointed or didn't like something without sounding like a jerk, IMO. I think I'm one of the only people on the planet who never watched GOT, but I have sure heard about how ticked fans were about the final season and even the actors didn't like it. Now the latest freak out is that the GOT guys are making the next SW trilogy. I honestly don't know what to think about that since I didn't watch GOT. I guess I'll just wait and see how this goes!

I was initially thrilled that the GoT guys were doing a SW series, but that very last episode of GoT made me realize that some of the criticisms I heard were valid. I didn't hate the overall last season (like many did) but one of the critiques was that it wasn't Benihoff and Weiss that made the story great, it was Martin. And the moment that Benihoff and Weiss caught up with and passed where Martin written to in the books, you could tell a difference in the quality of the story telling (and they were right, especially that last episode sheesh). Martin really was the genius behind the cohesiveness and competency of GoT, I have trepidation that this new trilogy is going to have early GoT quality. But then they could start in a whole new universe with new unestablished characters, they won't be hamstrung by having to adhere to previous stories and character arcs.
