AOTC does have some amazing things in it, also I really liked the Obi-Wan/Jango Fett chase and fight scenes.

I agree that AOTC isn't the best Star wars film but I still rank it above TLJ. AOTC along with the other Prequels have an amazing story behind it although it's execution wasn't the best, I just didn't think TLJ story was good and it did also suffer from it's execution in certain scenes.

Another thing, sounds that the last trailer proves a point I had in another discusion about marketing.

When you are proud of something, you put in on the table as much as you can.

    Having 1m20 on the former movies on a 2m10 ( it's a bit lazy right ? ) sounds like a marketing move.

Like a said on another post; I really thought that TFA trailer was a fan-made fake when it came out. (I believed that for a really long time) The new trailer with so much old footage actually feels even more so.

do we need to ask a mod to change this thread title to "for those who hate the new trailer" ?

might be easier to go the whole hog and change it to "thread for those who hate Star Wars" so that it covers everything you lot want to talk about.

There's a whole bunch of hate thread in that part of the forum and everything is OK : https://thecantina.starwarsnewsnet.com/index.php?forums/prequel-trilogy.48/

BTW, I see people saying AoTC wasn't that bad, that they liked the Clone Wars movie which are as far as I know a part of the Star Wars saga so no, people are not hating Star Wars as a whole and saying that a 40 sec teaser isn't a real trailer is hate is a little bit of a reach.

Now is not the proper time for a full trailer of pure TROS footage. If that is what you are referring to. That will likely come in October.

This movie is different from all the rest, and thus the marketing will be a bit atypical. This is widely assumed to be the last of the Skywalker saga. This is an event. They are marketing this properly and extremely effectively considering where we currently sit in the timeline of the film's release. They are smart to include scenes from all the other episodic films in at least one of these marketing campaigns, because how many casual fans actually know this is the last one? I'd expect at least one more wide-release "trailer" for TV spots that hammer on this again, showing footage from Ep I - VIII before showing any thing of IX.

I didn't say anything on the trailer to be honest, we just called that a teaser.

I just said that it's a marketing move to bring the things you are proud of on the table ... Where is the hate ?

.... what? Trailer, teaser, sizzle reel, it really doesn't matter what you want to call it. My previous point still stands.

I assumed it was somewhere in here:
    but maybe I misunderstood.

But you're right, if there is no hate and this isn't a discussion about TLJ, why are we even posting here?

And why didn't you say anything to the guy who said he hated Attack of the Clones and The Clone Wars ? Is there double standards of there ?

No. Don't go looking for something that isn't there.

I was honestly just trying to weigh in on the (currently off-topic) conversation and to hopefully add a little context to what appeared to be a disappointed reaction to the D23 trailer.

Another thing we learned is that people who liked the film go out of their way to seek out and argue with people who didn't like the film. They just can't leave the "didn't like it" crowd alone.

I'm love Star Wars and The Last Jedi, but I have a huge passion for statistics/economics that spans decades. Any time I can discuss surveys I love to assist because there's so many fallacies about measuring group sentiment. This is especially true on the internet.

Yeah... this happens in reverse too, a lot! The "Ruin Johnson!!" and "TLJ stinks" posts, inclduing personal attacks and poodoo-flinging, permeates dozens upon dozens of threads around here, including all (I think) of the admiration threads and most of the neutral discussion threads on the film (and many not on the film, too). TLJ-haters painting themselves as victims of hate around here is, at best, ironic. (And yes, I know I'm gonna rake up red marks for saying that; oh well).

Besides, the speaking up against hate and abuse is a virtuous thing.

....and with that, now I get to officially put my mod boots on.

We're not here to discuss fans and whether they loved it, hated it, etc. Let's stick to our own viewpoints, okay? That seems like the only way to get expert opinions on the matter.

Star Wars is not dead. The notion that a multi-billion dollar franchise covering movies, TV, streaming, novels, comics, toys, games, etc, is "dead" is absurd. The people claiming "Star Wars is dead" are either deliberately overstating things or they are highly ignorant.

Having said that, equally ignorant to the "Star Wars is dead" people are the "Everything is fine, no problems here" people. Star Wars does have problems and has been going in the wrong direction for several years now. Box office revenue, merchandising, TV ratings... just about every relevant metric is spiraling downward. The new characters just aren't catching the general public's imagination. We get news reports about how the younger generation of fans just aren't latching onto it. There is indeed a genuine split among long time fans (despite how much in denial some people are over this). After just 4 movies, the CEO publicly announced a "slow down".

E9 is expected to continue the downward trend, which is virtually unheard of to have the final part of a trilogy not do as well as the 2nd part. I do believe things are going in the right direction but I worry it may be too little, too late. Star Wars is dangerously close to being just another film franchise, which I think would be a real shame. I like how special this universe, these character are and I want that to continue.

Counterpoint: I have witnessed first hand the exact opposite. For a few months out of the year I coach a group of high school kids. I've seen them wearing the apparel, overheard all sorts of discussions, jokes, references, etc related to Star Wars, and have had them ask me about it unprompted. Of course, I can only speak for what I've seen and heard, none of which resonates with what you are stating.
But again, I'm borderline breaking my own guideline here of not discussing others.

It's time to move on with this discussion.
In case there is confusion, this is a statement and not a request.

30 years ago Star Wars was the only game in town. I don't think anything is ever going to capture children's attention like the OT did in the late 70's and early 80's. Even the Marvel films aren't saturating the public the same way. We live in the age of entertainment. There's just an overwhelming number of options these days. Marvel is a huge IP and so is Star Wars, but it's just different now. Different doesn't have to be bad.
