Hey everyone! I think everybody has the right to their own opinion, but those who didn't like it are kind of bringing me down. This thread is for those who loved the movie and want to talk about why. We can also talk about where you place TLJ in your order of favorites. Just kind of a general discussion.

I still dont know if I love the movie, but all the weirdness, twists and jaw droping scenes and revelations made me respect it. Just saw it once.

Thanks for the kind words. Truly sorry you didn't like it. I feel really bad for the lifelong fans who are crushed by this movie. But I also want to celebrate what I thought was an awesome movie, just like you wanna grieve. I wish we could all respect each other, like you and I are doing now.

Wow - flashback to '99. The most controversial SW film since TPM. It requires a "safe space" thread. I really appreciated TLJ as the enema this franchise needed. They can go anywhere now. JJA won't go anywhere but after that...sky's the limit :)

Yeah I feel like it really opened up the franchise. And fundamentally changed the franchise. And change is always controversial. But usually ends up being good in the end :).

The Last Jorgny checking in. I am totally in love with the movie. I am seeing it again tomorrow with my little sister, and hope she will like it too. I have seen a lot of people say that they disliked the movie the first time they saw it, and then (some, definitely not everyone) liked it the second time they saw it. I didn't have that reaction at all. The Last Jedi sits right there with the OT for me as of now, but it can change when i have seen it a few more times. I have been thinking about this movie for 2 days straight, and I adore what they have done. All the twists on old Star Wars-things were great, and the fan service moments worked for me also. My favorite parts were
yoda, the battle of crait, mostly everything with Luke and Leia, and Rey and Kylo vs the guards.
Visually, it was stunning. I also think John Williams did an awesome job, especially in building on the themes from TFA, and connecting it with the OT-tracks. Thanks for making a thread i can be positive in!

    edit:
The end of Luke Skywalker was pulled of MASTERFULLY.

No problem! Glad you love the movie. I really like those parts as well. The Rey lightsaber toss to Kylo was one of the coolest moments in Star Wars in my opinion.

I did really like the movie as a standalone film but I have a couple of issues as far as its role as a sequel is concerned. Since I don't know how/if IX will merge TFA and TLJ together I decided to mostly focus on the positive things for now and not worry about the "sequel aspect" of TLJ too much. Anyways, I think that making a thread like this only creates oppinion bubbles which I don't really like. As long as people are having a discussion without insulting and belitteling I don't mind hearing other oppinions, in fact I enjoy trying to look at things from a different perspective. Another thing that's important is to understand that art is subjective. Even if the majority of people objectively disagrees with you (Rotten Tomatoes, IMDB) at the end of the day it's completely up to you how you feel about a movie and you shouldn't have to lock yourself in a safespace to protect your feelings.

As an overall statement, this movie by and far was so Star Wars-y and immersive that I just felt "at home." And it had me feeling absolutely so much that it was at times overwhelming. I loved every part of it. RJ knocked this one out of the park.

One thing I really liked is I feel they made me empathize with the tragedy of the loss of so many resistance members. So many movies just dispose of human life like it's nothing, I thought this was a much more realistic portrayal of the horror of so many allies being killed around you, and the horror that the survivors could join them any time.

One thing I really loved was when Luke was talking to Rey about the cycle of life: Life, Death, Light, Dark and everything in between. As an avid fan, this film helped me realize that changes are part of life and it is good for OT characters to grow in wisdom, change, and evolve. It's time for the new generation to have their adventures and failures. :)

That's cool, I don't mind talking to people who didn't like it, and I am, I just also want to have a forum that's purely positive. Not going for a safespace vibe at all. :)

Loved it! Might be my new favorite honestly. Rian took elements from the OT, PT, and put his own unique spin on things to push the boundaries. I totally see why he got his own trilogy. The Force is strong with this one.

Yeah, it's gonna be hard for it to dethrone Empire for me. But it's number 2 for me right now. If I like it better next time (which would be hard, I love it so much), then we are getting into Empire territory in my opinion.

The Last Jedi blew my mind. It was nothing I expected, but everything I could've ever wanted. I am simply stunned. Of course, like any movie, there were parts that faltered: moments that seemed like a bit of a reach, some characters/motivations not fully explained, etc. It looked and felt nothing like a Star Wars film and it was this fact: the cinematography, the pacing, the bold risks, the incredible performances, that launches this film to the near top of the Star Wars franchise. The Last Jedi has been the only Star Wars film in a long time to actually expand the universe, our idea of the force, and push storytelling boundaries. I have never been more impressed.

I wouldn't say that I loved this movie, because I'd be lying. But I did like it. Heck, a lot more than The Force Awakens. But I still need to rewatch TFA and TLJ once more to solidfy my view. That said, I do love the themes and questions this movie raises as it is ambitious to such a high degree. That said, with this movie I do see a big glaring flaw with this ST. One that I can better discuss in the spoiler corner.

Really, my only big fear going into episode nine is that I can see all of RJ work on TLJ being undone. Why? Because, those fans who disagreed and are a large body could always cause LF to be reactionary and cause JJ to basically do a safer movie with Episode Nine. In other words, a ROTJ situation. Much as I love ROTJ. And also to be honest; after The Last Jedi a part of me feels burned out on SWs.

I don't blame anyone for being still into the brand, but really the ST's offerings so far I have found a little bit disappointing. Even though, I enjoyed TLJ. But really as someone who is a Legends fan, I just find this new material kind of dull.

Oh well. I still love SWs but expect me to bow out for Han Solo and maybe even Episode Nine going forward. Either way, I can at the very least appreciate this movie within this mixed ST.

I feel stunned too! When I got home I was dying to have someone to talk to about it, but my family and friends keep calling me a Star Wars nerd :( I'm glad to have somewhere to go and talk about all the cool new concepts and ideas mixed with the wisdom and strength of the OT!

I have SO many favorite parts :) Here are few:
    1. Luke's transformation into the force (what a beautiful way to take my favorite character and make him able to stretch across time and space-he is literally timeless now)
    2. Rey/Kylo team fighting (I just want to see more choreography like this. Light saber fights are cool...LOL).
    3. Lea's wisdom (she just had a peace and energy and sadness to her soul...only a woman who has been through hell and back could)
    4. The HUMOR! oh...I laughed so hard!
    5. I actually kind of enjoyed Luke's snarky darkness (I think all heros at some point in their journey have to let go of everything they have and hit rock bottom to realize and see the truth of what is important. It's the only way we grow).

    You?
