I'm still on the fense about how Han's death was handled. We know why Ben turned against Luke, but that really drove him to kill one of his parents? The only thing Han's death accomplished was to make Kylo Ren irredeemable in the eyes of some people. I hope episode IX sheds some more light on why Ben did such a horrible thing, but maybe "let the past die, kill it if you have to" is all we're getting.

because Snoke told him to? because he was in the thrall of a fishy-eyed toilet monster. because Snoke knew it would mess with his head.
the "kill it if you have to" is only how RenBen now rationalizes it.

Rewatched it tonight..... for the (must be 15th time)... GOD I Love this Star Wars episode.
    Still my favorite.

Some scenes worked less for me....
But the parts that worked for me the first time... works even better now.

    Now, can't wait for 9.

After re-watching the movie again, I can't help but being grateful to Rian for giving us true Leia on screen again. Whether it's his writing or his work with the actors, TLJ Leia was magnificent, older, wiser, hurt, yet charming and powerful. TFA Leia pales in comparison, and I liked TFA. Even without the added weight of Carrie's death, our general princess just shone. The way he dressed her, framed her, the beats he gave her, it was all great - yes, even the 'Superman' Leia.

It's heartbreaking that this our 'good bye' to Leia, but what a 'good bye' it was. Hopefully, JJ will build on this and give us the worthy final bow.

This is how I view it. It's not my favorite but it's up there.
What works is some of the best stuff you get in a Star Wars movie period.
The stuff that works is like a 9/10 or better.
What doesn't work hovers around like a 5/10.
Where as Empire, for me, stays a consistent 8 or 9 throughout.

Also, all the heavy themes aside, on a purely superficial level, this is such a pretty movie:

Think I would like the one with Rey/Kylo verses the guards. Now if it could just be a Harry Potter picture where the characters moved inside it.

    God, I love this film.

Not since TESB has a film made me giggle with excitement like TLJ does. REMARKABLE.

Rose in Tie sights...Falcon shadow swoops by..."Blow that thing out of the sky!"...Chewie's heroic Falcon moment with original music...

    I. Just. Cannot. Get. Enough. Of. It.

Chewie is indeed awesome in the final fight. i love him piloting the Falcon in this. sometimes i felt like he got treated bad (or as if he was incompetent ~ like in TESB), but he's older and wiser here and i love that moment when he's just sitting, listening to Rey and Luke quarrel, and respectfully keeping out of it.

I've lost count of how many times I've watched it this past week. The thing that strikes me on these rewatches is how many awesome moments are in the film. My problem with Rogue One was the first two acts were slow, but the last act was great. The Last Jedi is just full of great moments.

Just watched TLJ again and I swear, that last scene gets me every single time. It hits so close to home, I am a grown man in tears at the moment. As kids, we all watched and heard the stories of Luke Skywalker and they inspired us so much; we all thought we could be him one day. That stable boy with his broom was me with my toy lightsaber all those years ago.

What else can I say...Luke Skywalker - forever and always my hero.

Right! I don't know what it is, nor if it were planned and built up throughout the film, but seeing Chewie pilot the Falcon and do what he does - I found it really emotive. When the music kicks in and he's chucking porgs against the window, I'm on the verge of crying, screaming like an 6 yr old girl and beating my chest like a great ape, all at the same time!

I think there are lots of subtle things going on in TLJ that people miss, confuse with being pointless humour and end up dismissing as silly. Chewie and the Porgs is an example of this. The whole "Chewie going veggie" thing isn't just there for gags. It's showing him become attached to Porgs and explaining why they're happy to be around this beast on the Falcon later on. And why have the Porgs on the Falcon? For company. It's all part of Chewie's very subtle grieving process. Sure, he has Rey. But she's busy and on her own quest. Chewie needs something around him to keep him occupied. A companion. He finds that in the Porgs for now and works - both in terms of humour and providing Chewie with a companion he can knock about for cathartic purposes!!

Definitely. In terms of great moments, TLJ is the only SW film that matches up to TESB for me. Probably eclipses it in that respect. When I think back to the scenes in the previous 6 films that gave me goose bumps (emotional/excited) and still do to some extent, I think:

    TPM: Kenobi vs Maul.
AOTC: Jedi arena battle, Yoda saves the day ("Around the survivors, a perimeter create!".), Yoda vs Dooku.
ROTS: Order 66, Yoda vs Sidious
ANH: Twin suns, Han swooping in and Luke destroying Death Star.
TESB: Battle of Hoth, Han & Falcon scenes (asteroid & cloaking), Yoda scenes, carbon freeze, Luke vs Vader.
ROTJ: Luke vs Vader and when the Ewoks save the day.
TFA: Force back...I struggle to think of much I love from this film.

    And then with TLJ:

    - Rey meets Luke, their little fight.
    - Rey & Kylo Force connection (such a great device and surprising it hasn't been used before in a SW film).
    - Luke & Yoda - "Sacred Jedi texts!".
    - Kylo & Snoke's first scene - "Take that ridiculous thing off".
    - Kylo kills Snoke and then Rey & Kylo vs guards. Soooo good.
    - Battle of Crait - inc. the Falcon scenes as mentioned earlier & Finn's near sacrifice.
    - Luke vs Kylo and the whole projection thing.

    Epic. Emotional. Beautiful.

In JJ's defense, Carrie Fisher hadn't acted in quite some time and she admitted her performance was not that great. Rian got her after she got her wind back under her sails.

As much as I adore the sequel trilogy, this moment was one of the few that felt it lined up exactly with the classic trilogy - which is obvious because its the Falcon doing Falcon things. I'm grateful the new trilogy has its own feel, flow, and identity much like the PT, but these moments that allow me to revisit my childhood are much appreciated and savored.

The amount of care and detail throughout the film is astonishing. There's little things in many of the scenes that I love. Hux reaching for his blaster before Kylo wakes up. The camera work is probably the best we've seen in a Star Wars film. We haven't talked much about the idea of Porgs, but they're awesome and they're used perfectly.

There's also a ton of great lines. Yoda's lines are fantastic. Once people get over their headcanon fantasies the love of this film will grow.

Well that was downright beautiful. I hadn't quite verbalized that in my own mind yet, but you're totally right.

Can't wait to watch it again with that in mind!
