I am copy/pasting my comment left for my fellow staff members and mods after second viewing.

In my entire life I only gushed about one movie and it wasn't Star Wars movie. It was Fellowship of the Rings, because I couldn't believe they would pull it of in a million years. Also, I watched it with my family as I did every LotR film since. My mind was blown and I was so, so happy hence the gushing.

I won't gush about TLJ, I'll just say that Fellowship didn't leave me as emotionally satisfied as TLJ. My heart is bruised, but it is full.

The first time I watched, i watched with my eyes - I wanted to take all in and, of course, I failed. I came into second viewing relaxed, knowing what was coming. And as Luke said: There was so much more.

The first time I was shell-shocked, I didn't even tear up. Surprisingly, this time I started tearing up during Leia/Holdo good bye and I didn't even read Leia novel. Talk about first class actresses. Of course, Luke destroyed me: Luke/Leia scene, his final smile to Kylo, the look of piece on his face before he disappears... The final nail was Leia's theme over In Memory of Our Beloved Princess. I was crying all the way home.

The movie is flawed - it is true that there are 10-15 minutes that could be cut, but even on the second viewing I didn't feel its length.

The best thing is, because I watched at 15:00h, I was surrounded by the next generation of fans - kids, some of them very small. They were in it, heart and soul: "No, Rey, don't turn on the Dark Side!", "No, Luke, don't die!" And with the exception of one little Kylo Ren almost taking my eye with his lightsaber, they were on their best behavior - that's how caught up in the movie they were. They were all debating and asking questions during the exit. I think the future of SW is secure. :)

I am still emotional, I'll come back with more when I calm down. And I'm going to see it again in a couple of weeks when crowds subside.

Well I'm just going to repeat my post from the "do you like it or hate it?" thread -

Just been to see it for the second time today, this time with my 7 year old son.

I absolutely *loved* it this time; the first time was great, the second time was even better. Without all the shock and awe, I was able to sit back and just enjoy it. I've always felt Star Wars just becomes all the more enjoyable when you're familiar with it, probably since many of us spent so many years watching the OT we can hardly remember seeing them for the first time, they were just always there in our lives. I thought maybe it was a tad too funny the first time (not that the humour was bad, just perhaps too much of it), the second time however all the humour felt very much part of the movie and classic Star Wars.

But more importantly, my son absolutely loved it too. He's never been much of a fan until recent weeks, although he's had a bunch of the Lego for the last few years. It was playing Battlefront split screen together on Walker Assault that's had him begin to love it beyond the toys, and even then it was the military aspect he's liked the most but surprisingly this movie had him enthralled to the end. His favourite moments being the Kylo & Rey vs the Praetorians and the Battle of Crait. The moment we came home he insisted we play with his Lego Star Wars toys together since he was so excited from the movie.

Hearing the collective awe in the cinema at Holdo's sacrifice for the second time still gave me tingles, I could audibly hear the gasps from all those around me. Still not the biggest fan of Super Leia, but I'm not the biggest fan of Luke telling Leia she's his sister at the treehouse or a bored Alec Guiness spilling out exposition whilst sat on a log. Apples and oranges I know, but I mean it solely from the perspective of scenes I'm not crazy about that I can overlook within the greater whole.

Plus I was able to give things like Luke's projection more notice, realising he never even makes contact with Kylo Ren's saber, Leia doesn't react to the dice and can now presume the power of the island as an ancient Jedi sanctuary perhaps helped him perform such a feat like a conductive antenna.

I'd like to see it for a third time before it leaves cinemas, but it's just so expensive to. I will try to though, don't want to have to wait till the home-video release to see it again, I know this one will be a repeated-viewings grower for me (and I already love it).

Yes, exactly! First time eyes, second time heart. I teared up so many times second time around (even at small things, like Rey saying “...a force”), not even once the first time.

And I’m so happy for the ones who missed that it was younger Luke who came to Crait. I spotted it right away and felt nothing in the Luke & Leia scene. I was just sitting there thinking “this is not happening, that’s flashback-Luke, it’s some kind of trick”. And when Luke went out and faced FO/Kylo nothing was at stake, because I had spotted the trick. And then when Luke actually died I still felt nothing.

But at the second viewing I could let go and emotions were just pouring over me during all these scenes. So beautiful.

I knew something was off though I couldn't tell what it was, but my fangirl heart took over 100%: "Woo-hoo, he IS going to face the entire FO with a lightsaber! Go Luke! Kick that brat's a$s!"

This time I noticed the moment Leia knows and the look that passes between them and then, during the fight, no tracks in the salt for Luke, etc. But, I could also notice many of the nuances of this scene. There is so much Kurosawa in this film, it's not even funny.

First thing I did when I came home from Star Wars in 1977 was go to my room and build a TIE fighter with my Legos. :)

I was spoiled, so I knew the Holdo scene would be silent. It was cool listening to the gasps in the audience. :)

    Yup

    Yup

    Yup

This!! Yet it can be any kind of force user...if you will no matter where they come from...

And yet I haven't seen the movie and why i am here... lol...beats me

But when I do see it, i will go in with an open mind as i have been doing regardless since TFA and RO came out. Of the spoilers ive read...all that matters to me is how the film unfolds -execution style. :)

I suspect this film will grow on my upon further viewings. I actually might step back and debate things less for episode IX. So much happens in this film it's difficult to take it all in on the first viewing. The opening sequence is so great. Even though I felt like the CB scenes with Finn/Rose were the weakest part of the film it still was full of great moments.

2nd viewing enhanced the movie greatly. The first time I was just like a kid in a candy store watching RJ burn TFA to the ground and piss all over its ashes :) 2nd viewing revealed a nuanced and overall well balanced, hella-entertaining EPIC movie!

For me the standouts in this series are ANH (the original ground-breaker that still works as a stand alone movie) TPM (totally unexpected, novelistically thick, fantastic visuals) RoTS (a great tragedy -- SW style) and RO (more mature in tone, stylistically different, excellent characters) and now TLJ (ambitious, off-beat, emotional -- broke SW so SW could grow beyond copying GL forever).

Snoke's fitting end is still my favorite moment -- hope to never hear from that "character" again -- well, I won't even if they bring him back I'm skipping Ep9. This was the ending I wanted to the emaciated non-story hobbled out by JJA/LK :)

I hope JJ takes the challenge: TFA - reconstruction, TLJ - deconstruction, Episode IX - revolution. It would mean so much for Star Wars.

Well, with the timing of his jumping back into the game, we know that he was well-aware of what RJ was doing, so I gotta hope that he believes that he's up to the task of carrying it to the finish line. It's exciting knowing that his idea for Ep9 was pitched today.

Heck yeah! Star Wars needs a shake up. Am just hoping JJ doesn't go for death redemption for Kylo, either full dark or life imprisonment redemption or something original.

I also wanted to comment on the themes of TLJ. They are masterfully done, and worth keeping in mind.

When Poe did that awesome move in his xwing that is what Rian did with this movie. He did a 180 and made something unique.

And if not, then there are three more films by RJ in te making, so we're set anyway. ;)

This is the first film in quite some time that made me feel optimistic about humanity in general. That every one of us can be a hero and as long as there's someone on our world, there's still hope for us all. In my opinion no Star Wars film has ever had such a positive message and I greatly appreciate it for that. There are some problems with this film, of course, but all together, I've left the cinema in a great mood. And that's what great about this film.

I wanna talk about Finn and I am going to do it here since the Finn thread has been hijacked by insane and unhinged hyperbole.

Finn was underserved quite a bit in this film. He deserved something more prominent in this film, IMO. However, I do see character growth out of him.
He went from scared Stormtrooper to even more scared traitor of the FO who made an active decision to leave Rey so that he could get as far away as he could, to coming back for her, becoming an informant to the Resistance and then walking into the heart of everything that he feared to help save his friend.

In TLJ he wakes up out of his coma and immediately sets off to the same mission of doing whatever it takes to save his friend from certain death and then agrees to personally go into the lair of the devil himself to save them all and makes the transition from fleeing traitor to legitimate Rebel soldier and hero. To cap it off, not only had he grown into a willing combatant for the Rebels, he was about 3 seconds away from willingly giving his life so that the others could survive.

Then we have Luke's line (paraphrasing):

    "The Rebellion is reborn."
    <Cut to Poe>

    "The war has just begun."
    <cut to Finn>

"I will not be the last Jedi."
    <cut to Rey>

To me this literally is assigning roles to the future of these three characters. It tells us that Poe is going to be the new leader of the Rebellion, Finn's arc in this war is JUST getting started (I believe that he will become a leader) and Rey will herald the new Jedi Order. All three of these characters still have a very big part to play. Add in that look of happiness and peace on Rey's face when they finally reunited and hugged. She has not had that level of comfort in either film until that moment.

So, while Finn was underserved and I would have loved more from that character, I do believe that he is going to continue his arc and go on as a Legend of the Rebellion.

Poe is the future Starman, leader of the resistance. And amazing pilot to boot.

It'll be like the medieval kings of old. Their leader fighting beside them on the field.

Am now hoping for a Poe vs Kylo ship fight!

Finn in canto bight bored me. But I did love his growth and even his relationship with rose. However, your post has made he appreciate his arc even more.

    Thank you,

No lifelong fans were crushed by this movie. Sorry if you feel that way, or if anyone is saying that. They are only 'saying' that. I watched it in a full house theater who cheered when it was over. The dudes hating on it are either clickbait artists, or just hate on anything popular.

This was an AMAZING film, SW or otherwise. Sure it had flaws, but they were so minor I could easily overlook them. For instance 'flying Leia' was odd...but just that....odd..

I though, 'wow...they could have ended her there and be done with the Carrie Fisher-dying' thing. But nope.

Rather than listen to the trolls who dutifully told me to hate the Canto Bight sequence, I thought it was great!

Sorry if I come across as negative to true fans. That's not my intention. I think true fans and casual fans love it, it's just the Twitter world we live in that likes to tear down anything that most people love that grinds me.

If you hated it (and nobody truly did) then just don't go see future ones. You won't be missed....trust me.

I can't wait to see what Rian does with his trilogy. I also like the fact that he's going to plan all three films. One issue with this current trilogy is the fact there's not a clear plan. Finn's arc really suffered in TLJ because of how TFA ended. We're essentially watching two movies that take place over a week long period.

I assume JJ will have a time jump. That should help with the story.

I'm actually excited for a SW spinoff movie. Which both RO and solo, so far, have failed to do.

Yeah RJ and JJ's direction didn't meld well.
