    1. Luke realised they were wrong about that during the OT.
    2. Jury is out on whether they actually wanted him to literally kill his father. Filoni came away from discussions with George believing that they actually trained him to redeem his father. It's hard to accept but certainly worthy of discussion.

But really, what they told Luke to do is irrelevant. Their teachings enabled Luke to do what he did. Sure Luke rejected their instruction to kill but he was only able to become a Jedi (let go of his anger and throw down his saber) because of his training. But now this training is flawed? Don't buy it.

How much training did Luke even have? A day or two with Obi-Wan. Maybe a couple weeks with Yoda (if you really stretch it). Seems like his success had more to do with his character than his training. Yoda and Obi-Wan were the ones steeped in the Code, and Luke succeeded by going against their wishes. It doesn't make any sense to attribute Luke's success to a code he had very limited exposure to.

What they told him to do is very relevant. Whatever Filoni and George discussed is actually irrelevant. Luke did what he felt more than what he was told to do. He doesn't go by code, per se as the old Jedi did. I think that is where people put Luke in a box that he must abide by this or that, yet he never really did.

We don't know how long Luke trained for. We don't know what he learned in between ANH and Tesb or indeed before rotj. We don't know how long he was in Dagobah. But we shouldn't get bogged down with time frames - Luke is trained and taught all the important things by Yoda. The lesson in the cave, rejecting the dark side, being disciplined and devoted - Luke learned all this from Yoda and it enabled him to conquer the dark side vs The Sith.
    --- Double Post Merged, Mar 21, 2017, Original Post Date: Mar 21, 2017 ---
He rejected the dark side, he let go, he acted selflessly and with compassion. His training was all about that. You have to question when yoda and ben trained Luke the way that they did. He was hardly trained to be a Sith killing weapon. What George and Filoni discussed is very relevant as it suggets another way to look at this one element of their training.

This is Dave Filoni's position - the guy behind these new Jedi concepts that people are now suggesting = both the pt and ot Jedi were in the wrong. That doesn't add up to me. The ot Jedi learned from the pt Jedi errors and adapted accordingly.

I don't think it can be looked at that way. The PT jedi and the OT jedi weren't in the wrong about everything as you are making it sound. This suggests they both had flaws and obviously the PT jedi had way more flaws. A wise man is always learning....as this suggests what Luke will be doing. He took everything he had learned from Kenobi and Yoda and still failed when trying to start the Jedi order so obviously something still isn't right.

i'm going off the bold n' gold segments as they are purportedly direct from whoever shared this info:

"... something he came across relating to the Jedi puts into question everything he thought he knew about the ways of the Force."

"But in spite of the personal tragedy and his disillusionment with the Jedi way as he was taught, Luke Skywalker is no quitter ..."

what if this is in reference to the dark side and redemption? Yoda and Obi-Wan both talk about how once you start down the dark side, forever will it dominate you. they both gave up on Anakin and figured that he was lost once he turned to the dark side. Luke, however, is no quitter and he managed to turn his father back to the light.

maybe what Luke found out is that the dark side isn't a point of no return, differing from the PT Jedi and his OT teachers.

    'First comes the day
    Then comes the night.
    After the darkness
    Shines through the light.
    The difference, they say,
    Is only made right
    By the resolving of gray
    Through refined Jedi sight.'

maybe this is more about transcending the natural dark side that resides in us all. maybe, when Luke uncovered whatever information, Ben had his own interpretation of the knowledge. maybe that's where he gets the idea of wielding both light and dark.

    I can foresee:

Final Lightsaber duel in Episode 9 taking place on Mustafar.
Snoke & The Knights of Ren could very be hiding on the planet.

Forceback: Endor, Kylo retrieving Vader's helmet.

Luke's academy on Tatooine... cool... What a great way to finish the trilogy with Luke going back on Tatooine.

Looking forward to seeing these locations again. Very exciting to me. This confirms some of my own speculation about what happened between Kylo and Luke, what the latter possibly learned about the most basic/purist Jedi practices at the Jedi Temple, and possibly, the true origins of the Skywalker family. If Tatooine served as the location of Luke's students/temple, that's great to hear. Looking forward to more of these little tidbits.

I'd definitely be up for this (though, battles on Tatooine and Endor could also bookend the trilogy and saga as a whole in a similar way).

This I disagree with, simply because everything we know about Snoke, at least - and perhaps by proxy Kylo and the Knights - points to him being situated deep within the Unknown Regions. It wouldn't make much sense to hide the First Order in the Unknown Regions to be built without overseeing that construction himself, to some extent, and makes one wonder why Luke wouldn't have sensed Snoke - if he was indeed on Mustafar in the known galaxy - before.

If I recall correctly, there was a (short?) story which was alluded to being about the retrieval of Vader's helmet, with Bazine Netal (the FO spy in TFA who alerts the FO to BB-8 being at Maz's Castle) being sent to retrieve a steel case from a former Imperial stormtrooper (who may well have been positioned on Endor, and, upon finding Vader's burnt helmet on the pyre, took it).

This would be neat, but I certainly think an argument could be made for other locations being better suited to host an Academy - in the event that we see one.

This is great. I'm thinking Snoke is currently at Mustafar and that's where Kylo will start TLJ.

Wow I'd be surprised if they went back down the chosen one path.

In fact if they do, I'd bet Rey is actually the chosen one or something like it.

Why would they go down that path unless it dealt with a current character?

Annakin being "chosen" had no real impact on Vader- his legacy is big enough to go down that odd road from the prequels.

Maybe Luke and Ben found out some prophecy about a female chosen one....and that's why emo Ren gets jumpy when a force sensitive girl is mentioned?

I'm reaching there....but if Luke is going to be discussing chosen one and prophecies and stuff I'd guess it relates to Rey.

That would make Luke giving up on Ben make even less sense than it already does.....

    (Assuming he isn't stranded here)

This storyline about the Jedi intrigues me. I think it will just add to the lore. After thinking about it, it does make sense. The PT Jedi were destroyed and all but wiped out. Luke tries to rebuild the order and it is destroyed niece again. Luke obviously looks for answers of what went wrong. It makes sense he would look for information about the original Jedi and compare it to the Jedi we know today to see what went wrong and caused it's demise. The Jedi order was around for thousands of years before it fell. It would make sense to go back to those teachings if Luke was going to try and rebuild a new Jedi order one more time.

For the record, the big shiny text isn't a word-for-word quote from the person I was in contact with - it's just the gist of the information that was explained to me.

The emphasis was that Luke was still a Jedi after whatever it is that happened to him, in addition to the deaths of his students. He hasn't given up, he's just struggling to find the answers and is basically looking for something to help him beyond what he's already been told - as that doesn't seem to be working.

But I really do like your interpretation of that text.
