Going off of Boyega's comments that Episode IX was to have a "war to end all wars" I think it is a very safe bet there IS some kind of time skip. Definitely a year or two at minimum.

Personally, I'd love for the movie's climax to be like a reverse opening to RotS where it is the good guys who assault the villain's metropolitan capital in a big space battle. Have the good guys be the aggressors for a change!

I hope there is a time jump of several years. They can get away with 5-10 years if they want with no makeup needed for the actors to make it believable. Not having one between VII and VIII was quite jarring and still doesn't work for me.

Another good reason to do one is that while VII rehashed events of ANH, VII rehashed a lot of TESB and ROTJ. It's like they already ran out of material to remake. Give the story a number of years so we can have the rebellion rebuild. Rey and Kylo need to be much further on their paths to keep them interesting. Right now everybody has known each other for like a week, which is just silly.

If for an older Kylo you look, for a beard look no further...

Its a constant in Starwars for beards to be the go to accesory to make people look older, look at obi wan, he went from fully shaved to big ass beard mullet guy to standard hair good beard obi wan.

Also look at Luke, fully shaved then TFA and TLJ full beard.

For Rey i believe if they depict her as a formed Jedi Knight with training, a change of costume, a new lightsaber and change of hair does the trick

Poe and Finn could stay basically the same aesthetically and it would matter much, maybe a light beard for Poe and some Command Power, as well as Finn some attitude change should make the trick.

Rose as well more in command of herself and some growth of character will do the trick and a change of clothes yet again ahaha

Well to be fair Vader was fairly obsesed with finding Luke between ANH and ESB and he failed to find him and the rebellion, i belive this is going to be the case again with Kylo, Hux and the FO. Failing to find the newly formed rebellion. It makes a compelling beginning for IX

Thrawn failed miserably for a long time in finding the rebels in the animated series as well because they were to small of a cell, so did Vader he failed to find Yavin IV till ANH.

So its a very plausible plot point that 4 5 years go by and they cant find the new rebellion

The most likely jump will be two years. Here's why:

It would be the most natural time jump. It would mirror the actual 30 year time jump from ROTJ to TFA. There hadn't been a continuation of the Skywalker saga for 30 years. They mirrored that 30 year gap by formulating that the story of TFA would take place 30 years as well. It's also a nice feeling for an audience. "We haven't seen our heroes and villains for two years, what has happened to them, two years after seeing the Last Jedi we learn what happens?"

A two year jump in the story when it mirrors the two years it takes to make another star wars movie. That's usually the best way to proceed.

I would say I’m in the camp of two year time jump. This way it’s a way to deal with the untimely passing of Carrie Fisher. I think title crawl talks about her funeral some how and then we have an opening scene with the ships and then heading down to (insert planet here) where people are coming to pay respects

I think this may respark the force bond between Rey and Kylo.

I agree we need to let our characters grow and also the actors are going to be 4-6 years older (depending on production time) than the first film and it won’t be believable that it’s right after TLJ. I certainly don’t look like how I did 4 years ago

Also help me out with star killer base out and the supremacy gone the first order doesn’t have any major command stations yes? This could cause the finale break between Hux and Kylo and they will fight amongst themselves?

Sorry going on a tangent now I just get ideas and inspiration as I’m writing my response hahahaha

Oh and I don’t think Rey is going to Star New Jedi becadue isn’t that missing the lesson in TLJ that the force doesn’t belong to anyone? (Please don’t start throwing tomatoes at me )

    I'm close to that - 1 1/2 to 4 years.

@teline Love that idea! Here is a good Tolkien reference, if you are into LOTR. At the end of the Second Age, the Numenoreans (men) and Elves got really pissed at Sauron and decided to go on the offensive. They put together the "Last Alliance" of Men and Elves, an Army 250K strong, led by Elendil (king of Gondor) and Gil-Galad (King of the Elves). An incredible siege of Mordor ensued - if you thought the battle at the end of the Return of the King movie was big, imagine it times 10.

Someday I hope Peter Jackson gets the rights to the 2nd Age material and puts that battle on screen.

    Oh well....back to Star Wars.....
