OFFICIAL NEWS Title announcement: Rogue One

maybe rogue leader is always luke, but while he's off saving the galaxy/learing the force, rogue one is in charge in his stead.

 

The minutes from the Disney shareholder meeting mentioned that Iger showed off concept art. Has anyone seen this leak out anywhere since the announcement?

 

Wookiepedia says that "One" and "Leader" are interchangeable when it comes to call signs. I venture Rogue One is simply a better movie name than Rogue Leader.

 

I saw posted on JC that Hildago posted it on FB as "Rogue one, standing by"...which would imply that its rogue squadron

 

I doubt it's going to take place directly around TFA due to the movement of VII's release date to May of 2017. That only leaves a five month difference in release dates.

If it's based in the TFA era, you'd think there would be some characters (a Poe Dameron for instance) that would logically appear in both. Scheduling wise and stress on the actors would make that difficult, though not impossible.

I have a feeling this is set Post-ROTJ. Couple of reasons why:

1. They'll want to fill in any OT era material as soon as possible (note the current and upcoming comics, books, TV shows) so they can move on to future material.

2. with rumors of the next television show taking place after ROTJ, it would make sense to have a movie that could act as a prequel of sorts for it.

3. You don't have to include a re asked OT cast because the only person who would likely show up in that would be Luke, and he can easily be explained as being on other missions of doing various Jedi things.

 

Interesting that Rogue squadron was only mentioned in ESB.

It was Red squadron in ANH and ROTJ.

 

If I was a betting man, I'd lay money (though not a large amount) on Rogue One taking place between TFA and Ep VIII. Every cinematic universe (a term I'm starting to dislike) seems to be taking its cues from Marvel. It gives the studio the option of crossing over the different characters, and it makes it easier for general audiences to keep up if they aren't constantly jumping around in time.

If they had started with a Han Solo movie or Boba Fett movie I would have felt differently, but they chose to go with completely new characters. If they were going back to the OT era, wouldn't it have made more sense to go with established characters?

 

While there is definitely a good chance this is about Rogue Squadron, if you view the title from what the definition of a Rogue person is, "a dishonest, knavish person; scoundrel." (Dictionary.com), you get this guy:

Luke could be in it if it's set post Rotj, especially if the rumor of a young Luke in TFA is true

 

Or maybe Rogue One doesn't refer to "One" as meaning "leader", maybe it means "One" as in the original or first Rogue.

Im thinking this movie will take place between Ep 6 and 7

 

Seems like a squad movie of some sorts from this description.

 

So excited for this. The space battles have always been my favorite parts. I absolutely can't wait to see exciting new ships and characters, hopefully set in a post-ROTJ world.

The information is too vague to come up with any kind of strong consensus, If it "screamed Halo" i would think those are Imperials.

 

Rogue One. I like it. I am interested to hear more. Hopefully details for this will not be as secretive as TFA.

 

Why not just go after Colin Higgins?

 

Not sure whether or not this has been discussed but are we calling it Star Wars: Rogue One or just Rogue One?
