There's no conspiracy, no ulterior motive, no mystery box. It's as plain and obvious as Reese Witherspoon's chin..... She is a nobody from Jakku and her parents were scummy scavengers. Accept it and move on.

I think RJ left enough there that if JJ wanted to go back and make Rey a Skywalker, he could. That's not to say that JJ will.

I mean who's the real father? The man who shares your DNA (then later trained you for a few days once you reached your late teens or early 20s), or the one that raised you for a few formative years and then abandoned you on a desert planet at age 5 or 6?

This of course is assuming JJ decides to make Luke her biological father.

Yes, and Holdo is bad... oh wait, no she isn't.

But luke died in a duel with Kylo, wait, no he did,... oh... hang on, he didn't but he died after.

But Kylo is evil for killing his dad, wait, no... there's still good in him (he doesn't kill his mom), Rey sees it. Oh, no, he really is evil. Wait a second, just maybe he's not... tbc.

Snoke is all powerful and can see the future... oh, not so much.

Leia survives, Kylo won't kill her. Wait, she's blown up, I guess that's it. Hang on, she's still alive but she'll probably die in space, but no, she makes it back.

Finn's barely a resistance fighter and wants to run away from the FO just days earlier, but wait, he's going to sacrifice himself and die for the Resistance. Awesome... oh, wait... no he won't, Rose stops him.

If it is that obvious, it's no wonder people aren't believing. TLJ keeps telling us not to believe what they are telling us.

And why would they lie about something like that?!

I don't rule out her being related to someone else we know though.

 

These are all in film moments. Stuff like this is done all the time when telling a story. It's not even remotely comparable to something playing out over three films. Not one of those things you listed could have happened and we would still have people speculating about Rey's parents. Do you know why Snoke was shown with his tongue out and chopped in half and his dead body displayed at multiple angles and in multiple scenes? So fans wouldn't keep asking "is Snoke alive?". Even then it didn't work. Some idiot would speculate that Snoke is still alive and his spirit went into Hux and Hux is now Snoke. You can't stop stupidity.

 

I don't think it's that he doesn't care about the galaxy, he's in doubt about himself and the Jedi in general. His self confidence has been shaken and he doesn't see himself as the solution. Deep down he ultimately still has the Jedi traits of compassion for others and wanting to do what's right, and he doesn't believe Ben Solo can be redeemed, and that Rey's belief otherwise can lead to disaster

Seriously thought, @McDiarmid is very passionate and thorough with his ideas, I don't really get any father/daughter vibe anywhere in TLJ. A teacher/mentor yes, father/daughter no. While I think JJ could still have to freedom to do what he wants, I don't think she will be related to anyone. TLJ and the broom boy shows us that the force doesn't just belong to the Jedi or the Skywalkers. I don't think JJ will change this, he was an a producer on the it and he knew the story RJ had.

 

IMO, they never gave the time for that dynamic/relationship to develop, which is a shame.

JJ did know RJ's story, but maybe he told RJ to keep the door open a crack so he can finish it the way he wants. I'm not saying she's going to be a Skywalker for sure, but at this point, I can't absolutely write off the possibility. I think someone already warned McDiarmid not to deal in absolutes, I think that advice works well both ways.

 

@Sparafucile , Yea it is certainly always a possibility. Unfortunately I missed the meeting to know for sure. LOL. ... JJ may or may not change it, 2 years to wait an see what JJ decides to do.
