TLJ: Kylo Ren Becoming Darth Vader?

    Hello all. One of the things that stood out to me the most at my first veiwing of TLJ (I plan on going one more time) was the development of Kylo Ren. Obviously, as the first to mid part of the movie suggests, Kylo and Rey have a deep connection to each other through the force. Snoke claims to be responsible for this but come on, we all know the truth. Anyway, as the film progressed, I felt Kylo slowly shifting to the light side. When the throne room scene came, I was almost sure this was the case (I was still unsure, as the film still needed a villain). But all of my hopes were crushed as he tried to pull a Vader and convince Rey to join him in order to rule the galaxy. After they sperate, Kylo launches an attack on the resistance, this time noticably deeper into the dark side (full of anger, hate, aggression, etc.). This all culminates in his "fight" with Luke Skywalker. As I let those sceens sink in, I began to think deeper and deeper on the path that Kylo would eventually take. Snoke in the beginning of the movie even taunts him as trying to be the next Vader, which he also admits was his plan all along. Looking back at scenes from TFA, we again see that he is almost trying to replicate what Vader did (maybe an excuse for JJ's very similar plot to ANH). How does everyone else feel on this matter? Do you think Kylo is close to becoming a Sith Lord like Vader? If not, what kind of development would be necessary, if possible, for Kylo to escalate to his level?

    They are very similar in temper and power.
    Yet there is one big difference between Vader and Kylo.

    Vader was a slave and servant to the dark side, fear of losing his loved ones drove him towards the dark side but he was redeemed in the end by the love of his son.
    Kylo becomes the dark side by killing his father and master and assumes leadership, He WANTS to become fully dark by killing those he once loved because he sees them as a weakness..
    The big question is, can he be redeemed?.... does he even want to?

    I think you've made a great point. I always looked at Kylo like a kid who wanted to be the next Michael Jordan if you know what I mean. I do think it's interesting though to see that both Vader and Kylo's seduction come from fear and anger stemming from there family and past. We see both characters try to kill off their past (Ben's death and Han's death) as they were encouraged to do, but theystill hang on to them and use it to fuel their hate. But again; Michael Jordan vs wannabe.

    He could go either way people. JJ may pick hope or despair, or a unicycle for Hux in a comedic sequence. IX is 2 years away.

    He may be redeemed because he is the last scion of OT lineage, and it wold fit his family’s track record with redemption.

    Or he could go dark and follow his star until the end and it burns out.

    Could go either way.

    Forgot about Hux. Now that I think about it, Hux might even be a way to push him closer to the dark side, as Kylo has never really experienced dominance.
    Or the unicycle thing. Either one.

    Kylo rules the First Order now. He is the Supreme Leader. There is no way back. 100% dark side. No redemption.

    But you’re right, JJ must go FURTHER.

    I know what must happen!

    They time travel to earth in the future to save whales, and bring a woman back with them. Who is fs and somehow descendant of Finn and Rose, who falls for Hux!

    Then they fight and Kylo and Rey have mindsex and fly through space like space Leia!

    It’ll be great!

    I didn't mean in the sense of a solo movie like you said TLJ, but more so in the total trilogy and how it turns and ends in the end, now if kylo ren would simply become good and so, that would be too much like vader imo, they should figure out something more interesting with him, alltho im not sure what yet.

    In my opinion, I think he’s had enough chances to be redeemed in the past two episodes. I don’t think there’s no going back.
