On a bit of a side note - I really, really hope that in Episode IX Rey's costume will be inspired by Princess Yuki's kimono from the final scene of The Hidden Fortress.

Another shot that I love (but I didn't see any online version of it) - Yoda and Luke sitting together and watching the tree burn down. Despite this being such a violent act, there's just an incredible sense of peace in that peace, especially because Luke finally accepts his mistakes and finds a sense of purpose in his actions. Also, just seeing Yoda on screen and hearing Frank Oz's voice just puts a huge smile on my face. :) And that piece of music...

Love that scene. Someone also mentioned that you can (if you want to) see the shape of the Jedi bird in that burning tree: the Jedi are ending and are reborn. :)

I would absolutely love it if they pulled that Kimono style off in a practical Jedi way.

The entire color palette from Snoke's throne room to Praetorian guards and red soil of planet Crait are very reminiscent of Kurosawa's color palette. It was a visual treat to watch TLJ on big screen. Steve Yedlin's cinematography was top notch.

This shot is one of my favorites (hard to pick one) from Dersu Uzala. Another excelente movie from Kurosawa.

Refer? Perhaps....but I definitely think it influenced a lot of Star Wars...

Interesting observation. It seems in life we often see what we are looking for...

DJ is Finn's future if he keeps running.
Finn doesn't want to be that and in that moment makes his choice.

I just like the parallels between the two in the end.

I am slowly capturing everyone's observations in a word document...it is awesome. Will share when completed.

To cover a theme we talked about, how about all the scenes that built upon the "two halves of a whole" or "splitting apart" theme:

    1. "May the For...." phrase cut in half
    2. When Leia is force pulling her way through the destroyed bridge, the hologram of Snoke's ship is still playing, she goes through the hologram at the same angle that Holdo does, later on....
    3. Holdo splitting Snoke's ship
    4. The amulet of Paige and Rose, two halves
    5. The light saber split by Kylo and Rey

    ...any others?

It's weird that they don't just tell us which planet it was on.

I choose to believe it's Naboo. The temple looks a lot like Naboo structures, and that planet has grasslands.

If they won't outright tell us, it means it probably has value later on.

You'd think... but unless it's something huge, like Rey was actually a student there, I can't imagine what about its name could be such a big secret.

Maybe it's in the script, like Ahch-To was in TFA's.

    Really great thread.

It's so awesome to know that all the little details are being noticed and appreciated.

There is so much to love about this movie for any and every Star Wars fan.

Discovering it all is part of the magic.

    That's my favorite little detail..

How absolutely magical the entire movie feels.

For as much as I love TFA.. it was a bit lacking in that regard.

To be fair, the PT characters are relatively well traveled, being Jedi and Senators.

(We see a bit of that in TPM with Padme on Tatooine and Anakin on Coruscant, though.)

I got this from BJ Priester.

But on Crait, Kylo shows his commitment of the Darkside and his need to kill the past. (The OT legacy)

Han: Kylo orders the Falcon to be blown out of the sky.

Leia: Kylo orders the FO to advance and take no prisoners with the resistance, after the wall is destroyed.

Luke: Kylo orders all weapons to fire and kill Luke.
