Neat thread, thanks! I need to go back for a second watching but-

• I also saw the mouse droid, early on, running around on the bridge of the FO command ship.
• Poe rubbing BB8's little round "belly" when they reunite. Gosh those two together are so cute!
• The close-up in the FO uniform room- I turned to my husband and said "That ship looks just like an iron!" And it was, lol. That was a very clever poke by RJ at how over-the-top cool the FO uniforms are.
• The casino- everyone wearing black and white. It was a very neat effect, and made Rose & Finn stand out like a sore thumb!

 

Maybe the amphibi-nuns cooked them for him in stew and he ate them but he didn't know they were in there.

That Iron scene instantly made me think of Spaceballs. Instant, pure hilarity

 

The police speeders on Canto Bight used the same sound effect as the police speeders from TCW. They may have also reused the Force choke sound effect from TCW (that was also used in RO), but I don't remember off the top of my head.

 

The First Order may go down in flames, but by God, they're going to look fabulous doing it!

 

This is a common trend among totalitarian regimes. And Mel Brooks has made quite the life mocking it.
The iron gag in this film is a wonderful nod to it. Loved it.

 

Some more:

Finn saying "Rebel scum."

BB-8 plugging sparks/short circuiting in the X-Wing like a cartoon character might try to plug holes in a dam.

BB-8 literally losing his head.

The Falcon flying through Crait, visually calling back to Episode VII (inside a Star Destroyer) as well as Episode V (asteroid avoidance) and VI (inside DS2).

Rose saying "wow."

Finn momentarily playing once again into the "Big Deal" persona as Rose fawns over him.

Rose calling Finn a "dummy."

Rose succinctly pronouncing the ultimate solution of this saga:

"This is how we'll win: not by fighting what we hate but saving what we love."
(not a perfect word-for-word quote, I must admit, but close enough to make the point)​

 

I was going to make that observation about Nazis, but didn't know how it would go over. Glad to know I'm not the only one who's noticed it!

Yes. That last quote is actually my "Status" right now.
It was perfect when Finn said "Rebel Scum." Yes, he is and we love him for it!
Another thing about the Falcon- "They really hate that ship." Lol! Yes they do! They really, really do.

 

Ackbar's death was one of the stupidest deaths in all of Star Wars. What makes it worse is the fact that Holdo's entire character could have been and should have been Ackbar. How much more would her death scene have impacted the audience if it was a character that is universally known and people have loved for the last 30 years.

 

I mean, they are space Nazis...I don't think anyone would object.

You know, when I first saw it I thought Finn yelled "They really hate that chimp!" and I was like "why the F did he just call Chewie a chimp?!?"

If you are curious about the actual line, when it comes to that stuff here (with other posters, not mods) it's calling Anakin "Space Jesus"

 

I have seen that reference, which seems new on this website over the last year or two, but it doesn't really offend me because as origins go, it's true. A bit unsubtle and heavy-handed on GL's part, IMHO.

I do wish folks would get straight what the immaculate conception is, however. That refers to Mary, not Jesus. Seeing that error does rankle me a bit. If a person wants to make analogies, at least make the RIGHT ones!

Also, I love how Luke mocked Kylo by impersonating Han with his very last line of dialogue, "See ya 'round, kid." A reminder of what Luke had said just just a couple of minutes before, that he would always be with Kylo, just like his father.
