Iam begging to get torn apart about if i need a new trailer.
On one hand I would like a new trailer but maybe around mid September time just to keep me going with some new footage. But then iam worried that they will reveal their much in the next trailer like the BvS second trailer which was way to spoilery though I hope the guys putting the trailer together have more faith in the film so go for a less is more approach.

The American trailers for TFA and RO were rather good at keeping the secrets in check, so I don't see them spilling the beans with the next TLJ trailer.

I wouldn't worry about the main trailer. These are always fine for Star Wars. There's no way they're gonna pull a BvS, they're smarter than that.

International trailers and TV spots are a different story... I will try to avoid them at any cost. I gave a couple of Rogue One spots a chance and each time I saw more than I wanted. Not gonna fall for that again.

His videos should be banned from youtube. Reason, stupidity. The last couple of times he has posted about trailer leaks, he has taken details straight from the bts reel and the excisting TLJ movie stills and mix it toghether with his own imagination. If all the info came from MSW I would believe it but not when it comes from Mike Zeroh.

Zeroh is not the sharpest knife in the drawer. And I HATE with a deep passion his theme music.

Haha, now I want to see a Rogue One trailer done in BvS style. You know it would feature the "Hallway Scene", I'm sure.

Or ESB- Snyder wouldn't be able to resist the "I am your Father" line... or perhaps it would instead be "I am your Martha". :p

Huh, we got something in that vein. Fortunately, it was AFTER the film's release. :)

Oh wow, yeah, that is pretty bad. Probably should have held off on that until after the DVD release, but at least it wasn't before the cinema.

The trailers are bad, in the way they may introduce void questions (remember the bacta tank in R1 and that "black hood" who kneels in front of it, and all the hype about that - up to discover in the theater that it was just a random minion) and conversely in the way they may introduce a hope, an expectation of something to happen, that may disturb the viewing (remember that TIE affair with Jyn on the top of Scariff communication tower, something that finally did not end up in the movie).

    Trailers are evil.:)

True, both good points. From what I remember, the TFA trailer didn't really set up any expectations that weren't met, but Rogue One did a lot of that (I'm still sore we didn't see the scene when the whole group charges directly at the walkers).

And the black hooded guy was just cruel- perhaps the intent was to focus on the bacta tank instead of the hooded figure, but unless homeboy ends up being someone important (like if that just happens to be the correct Snoke theory) then I can't help but worry that it was purposefully misleading.

Its almost like they know that fans will endlessly promote the film on social media and the net with speculation.

The RO trailer footage nowhere near as misleading as Captian Phasma in TFA. The fact she was so useless and under-used in the film really did bother me the most out of anything Star Wars related so far. As long as Phasma actually does something in the movie this time, I'll forgive them for it.

Cawatrooper I cannot get you are so naive ;) :) I'm convinced all of this has been done on purpose, as Pastor says:

Man, her confronting a Tie would have been iconic. It would have been blasted out of the sky at the last second or something. But gosh, that scene desperately needed that. It was very much an anti-climax.

The TFA trailer made it seem like Maz delivered the light saber to Leia, and that Maz saw something in one of the character's eyes that reminded her of the "same eyes" of someone she met in her past. Making it seem like we were getting a new character that is related to a legacy character in some fashion. Instead, Maz was scrubbed from the remainder of the film & they totally had to change when the light saber was introduced, and how. And they changed Maz's eye speech to some lameness about her seeing Finn wants to escape. Both of these changes I was pretty sore about.

So I am fine with them waiting to release a trailer and to only give the barest of details.

I still consider - and this is just IMHO I certainly don't intend to state a definitive truth - that giving a hint on the gift to a person some days before his birthday, is something "too bad".
    - Hey honey, here is your birthday gift. As I said you some days ago, it is a pressure cooker. Happy Birthday my love.
    Something's wrong here. :)

That's my feeling about a teaser. Give me the urge to see the movie, ok. But unveil me too much things (and worst of all : give me some false hints like RO trailer) I find that UNFAIR.
Better tell nothing than tell a lie.

In fact, they lie us more and more. In fact, the only reason they unveil some characters in the trailers is not to please their fans: it is done only to prepare the merch.
They do not care their fans, they only care the customers their fans are about to become.

In Rogue One, a true pleasure for the fans would have been to see - just for 1/2 second - the reflection of Tarkin 's face in the glass (his first appearance, when we see him from his back). That would have been something huge in terms of speculation and hype. But that would have been a problem because Tarkin would not have led to tons of dollars in terms of merch. So instead, we got Moroff and the doorgunner, even if both appear in the final movie for less than ten seconds.

    Too bad I say. :)

I think it's often fans' own fault. ;) We overthink everything. Sometimes it's fun, sometimes it pays off and sometimes it results in disappointment. For me, the bacta scene was still a cool reveal, because I didn't expect Vader in the tank and definitely didn't expect it to be in his castle on freaking Mustafar. The robed guy couldn't have been anything huge in the first place as we knew that there was no room for another big baddie in that film and any significant links to other canon stories (like Snoke) were unlikely.

As for Jyn vs TIE, I keep seeing it brought up all the time and I don't get what's all the fuss about. The reason behind changing it was legit - the TIE would have been shot down by an X-Wing immediately after that shot, which kind of repeated the Baze vs AT-ACT moment and was expected in general.

Now, the beach run with the data tape is another story... To this day it's my biggest gripe when it comes to Rogue One. I hate the fact that reshoots/recuts robbed me out of that scene after all the promo campaign appearances (the BTS reel was basically focused on it). It was already so iconic, I couldn't wait to see it in cinema. But it's tricky to judge this particular situation... On one hand it's a bad marketing move, which led to my disappointment, but on the other hand, cutting it was motivated by bigger production problems. Who knows, maybe by dropping that sequence they made several other things work and gave us a better film overall. I'm still mad, though. :p I'm leaning towards thinking that the third act would benefit from keeping that in. It would have given the ground battle more direction.

I guess with TLJ we'll be getting just two US trailers for TLJ (including the teaser, because a teaser is still a trailer...)

It's a bad marketing move, period.
The result is the audience is becoming more and more mistrustful. I must admit I had a huge hype in 2015 for the upcoming episode 7 (so much years since EP3 without a new SW movie). One year after, my hype was little less with R1, even if there was still the "back to the ANH period", and Vader, and the Death Star and so on. This year, I'm already quite fed up with the "unexpected july leaks" and the "Entertainment Weekly August Issue". And for the moment, all the things that came around that Solo movie have passed over my head, far, far high in the sky, far above the clouds...
... what will be my hype for EP 12 if they continue this way ? I will be bothered. This would be a remarkable fail if it should happen. :)
