After some of the news stories that broke lately, that have been sharing some possible cameos for Rogue One, is it possible that they have too many cameos in the movie?

VADER!!!! We need him and all but confirmed he will be in the movie. Also looks like from the MSW article yesterday, we will be getting what we want.

    http://makingstarwars.net/2016/01/25215/

SFX team said that they have been working on Jabba the Hut to be brought back soon (could be for Rogue One or Solo movie).

    http://www.starwarsnewsnet.com/2016...n-of-a-classic-villain-to-the-big-screen.html

Han being cast soon so that they can get him a cameo in Rogue One (heard that one on Jedi Council)

The possibility of having Obi Wan, Kanan or any of the Rebels crew has been discussed a lot.

Also we have the characters from some of the new Canon novels (Thane and Ciena from Lost Stars come to mind)

And there are soo many other characters that would be around in this part of the timeline!

I have no problem with having all these people in the movie as long as it flows well and it doesn't take away from the main story. What do you guys think? Who should it have and who should be left out?

I'd say it really depends on what the cameo turns out to be.

It could easily just end up being people resembling the Rebels crew for instance standing around in a briefing. A whole two seconds or so. It's like the cameo Billie Lourd has in TFA that we all knew about months in advance, but even with that foreknowledge was easy enough to miss due to the brevity of it.

Definitely need some presence from Vader, and hopefully they could get a few lines of dialogue straight from Jones to enhance it. The rest could probably just be background easter eggs in all honesty.

It should work as long as they are not shoehorning them into the film just for fan service. If their involvement in the film serves a logical purpose in moving the story forward then by all means let them be in it. TFA did a good job of including new EU characters and references without making them over the top or obnoxious. Besides we really don't know at this point which of these cameos are going to happen in Rogue One and which are going to appear in another film. I think Vader is a lock for Rogue One and I think the young Han Solo might make a brief cameo as well.

I think any Force Users are out of the picture - the movie apparently has a big "no Jedi" policy, so if they have Force Powers on the Rebellion side, I'd say no. Thane and Ciena were both still with the Empire and not very high up on the command chain, so I don't think they'd be likely cameos (and on the Rebellion side, I'm pretty sure Poe's parents hadn't joined the fight yet). Han and Jabba could work if done well, and Vader feels like a must have.

This. Many of those characters could well have some amount of involvement. I don' have a problem with cameos, as long as they add to the story. At the point that you just see Greedo or Jaba going through the motions in a background shot, it gets annoying.

I think that we will need to see the ending OF Rebels Seasom 2 to understand if there's a possibility that any of them could ever be in R1 .

If there are any cameos...I'm willing to bet on Bail Organa, The Galactic Senate on Coruscant, Vader, Boba Fett, et al.

When you have a movie this big, rumors fly. Most of these aren't going to be true. Vader is a given, Han and Boba are a maybe, any other characters are very iffy.

Don't see why Jabba would be in Rogue One. The VFX people are surely working on him for the Han Solo film.

He'll probably be fully practical so it's really the VFX people who're working on him ;) .

Digital, practical, don't mind too much. My family thought Maz Kanata was a puppet, just shows how good ILM have become

To many cameos can hurt a film series. Take a look at Spiderman 3. How good would that have been with only one or two bad guys cameos.

Yeah i was thinking that too, i don't want the cameos to take too much prominence in the movie.

But remember that is typical of blockbusters in general...[Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Spider-Man 3, every single Star Wars movie (two Sith, multiple battle droids, bounty hunters, Order 66, etc.), The Dark Knight, The Dark Knight Rises, Spider-Man 1, etc...] they ALL a have a minimum of two MAJOR villains with potential countless cameos .

I don't get how people think the likes of Han Solo or Jabba would work in this movie - we know Han is new to the Rebellion at the start of Ep IV, and what Jabba would have to do with a military mission I have no idea. Obi-wan too doesn't exactly seem like he's been getting involved in military ops when he gets Leia's holo message to him in ANH (nor did he have any idea about the possibility of the existence of the death star before they were already stuck in its tractor beam) so it seems unlikely he'll be around.

We know the movie is about a group of rebels trying to steal the death star plans, so it would make sense to imagine that we will see some of the Rebel Alliance leaders planning or ordering the mission, like Leia or Mon Mothma, and maybe some other rebel fighters like Wedge or Porkins. I think we can also expect to see Tarkin as well as Vader (we know he was closely involved with the Death Star construction and operation), and possibly a hint of the emperor too, overseeing things (voice or hologram only, ESB style).

Other than that I would say an easter egg style cameo for one or two of the Rebels crew is all else we would get (Hera or Sabine most likely, not the jedi as they will surely have to die before Rebels is up...). Any other characters just randomly showing up would really distract from the story.

Darth Vader is enough...maybe with the CGI Tarkin. Personally i'd like to see CGI hologram Leia getting notice at the end of the movie that the plans had been retrieved. This movie does not need to rely on any gimmicks however, the story in and of itself is very interesting. I could see it being along the lines of Saving Private Ryan, but in Star Wars land.

The majority of the cameos wouldn't really add much to the story, a band of rebels stealing plans. No need for Han, Jabba etc. Vader/Tarkin YES! (Palps? Maybe) Other than that, mere mentions/easter eggs I guess. It would be ace to just have a standalone film that doesn't have a strong reliance on callbacks, let it breathe on it's own :)
