Top 5 future Iconic Scenes from TFA

    This is really my excuse to make my top 5 favorite list but I am making an effort to keep in mind probably future significance.

    5. Meeting Rey

    Her theme speaking a gentle sort of innocence, almost reminded me of music from Harry Potter in all honesty. They chose to use Rey's first scene as the opening to the first full length trailer for good reason. Her situation was made truly unique that unlike Luke and Anakin she was truly alone and had to learn to fend for herself long before they did. Years from now we will look back at this sign with nostalgia for introducing us to our own Miss Universe.

    4. "Chewie we're home"

    Many tears were shed when this line ended the second teaser, the first time it hit many of us that Star Wars was truly returning. You couldn't ask for a more heart rending return of our favorite nerf herder and his walking carpet.

    3. Han's death

    The symbolism of the whole exchange begs constant review, so much happened in so short of a time that I even felt it was arupt after the first viewing. From Han's cry of Ben to his plummet into the light signifying the last shred of good leaving Kylo Ren I felt myself transported into the sort of troubled relationship many sons have with their fathers, and for the first time we got to see that emotional turmoil laid out in front of us in Star Wars. It was in a sense a dark reprise of Vader's redemption with the roles flipped and the end result a failure. Long ago I called for the need of a major character to die in TFA and my calls were answered with a scene that shall haunt nightmares for years to come.

    2. Rey's Force Pull

    It was the scene from the concept art that sparked my imagination, a moment I could feel even then. There is something intrinsically dramatic about the Force Pull, a hand reaching out in desperation as the object subtly twitches in response. It was our first visible sign of Luke's force use and has been iconic ever sense. Here we see hope cut from us as Finn is brutally maimed by Kylo Ren and the lightsaber begins to twitch towards Kylo Ren's grasp only for it to fly past him into the hands of Rey and the Force/Skywalker theme plays. As we will see with the remaining scene on the list John Williams correctly identifies the musical score that fits the emotions of the moment

    1. At last, Luke

    The hero of our childhood, the farmboy turned Jedi Knight, the only one pure enough to resist the Emperor and redeem the Chosen One. Luke is a force unlike most heroes in existence that the very sight of him can draw breath fro lungs. Even many of those who hated the fact that Luke played such a small part in VII loved the reveal. Rey's climb fit the music cues perfectly, I remember vividly my theater sitting in absolute silence breath locked inside of us as we finally come to the cloaked figure. The music rises right when it needs to as Luke turns to face not just Rey, but all of us. Any dialogue here would've quite possibly ruined the moment, no words needed to be said, Hamill and Ridley's acting gave us all we needed as VII ends not in boisterous triumph like IV and I but with a quiet whisper the begin the next step of our saga.

    1. Meeting Rey / A day in the life of Rey

    I will argue that Rey's introduction is the best character introduction ever in the saga. Simply amazing and beautiful shot.

    2. Rey's force pull

    Chills every time. Iconic.

    3. Han's death scene

    Even though most of us were spoiled, it was executed great.

    4. Kylo Ren stopping the laser bolt.

    A cool introduction to a new dark force wielder with surprisingly more depth.

    5. Flashback / force vision scene

    I think it's a really cool and new concept for Star Wars. Reminiscent of the cave in TESB.

    Rey sitting alone in the shadow of that AT-AT foot
    - the camera pans out and there is just nothing there....

    Kylo takes off the mask for the first time
    - it's just so unexpected. You expect a monster and instead there is this soft and pained character and he looks so HUMAN

    X-Wing hunting a TIE above Maz' castle
    - it already IS iconic. The X-WIng shots in TFA where just brilliant

    Han touching Ben's face for the last time
    - ugh

    BB-8 welding torch thumbs up
    - because that is the cutest thing ever.

    Just wanted to drop back in and list an Honorable mention to: "The Resistance Arrives"

    By far my favorite track from The Force Awakens is "March of the Resistance" and I argue that one day our introduction to that piece as the X-Wings of the Resistance arrive the Battle of Takodana will become nearly as iconic as our introduction to Imperial March. Where Imperial March was inspired by Reich marches and highlighted the crushing might of the Empire despite the disaster at Yavin IV the March of the Resistance is its polar opposite. Too me it invoked old Soviet Revolutionary Battle Songs (felt kind of like a sped up "There March the Soldiers" to me), seeking to inspire a sense of the underdog fighting against an established power. The strength of the Resistance would then be shown not to come from overwhelming military strength but from overwhelming skill.

    5. Han and Leia reuniting - I thought C3PO was fantastic when he just bobbed in between the two of them.

    4. Rey at the Resistance Base - I loved the image of Rey and Leia embracing and off to the other side was the Resistance crowd celebrating.

    3. Kylo Ren's Force Choke - When the officer reports that BB8 has escaped on a frieghter and then reveals BB8 was with a girl.

    2. Rey's Force Pull - as soon as I saw the Saber twitching, I was saying 'yes, yes, YES' in my head. Then when it landed in her hand I struggled not to 'Whoop' out loud.

    1. Han and Ben - As a big fan of the EU, hearing Han shout "BEN" was a fantastic nod to the EU. I wasn't sure if he had shouted 'Ren' at first, then second time I saw it, I knew it was Ben.
