SPECULATION "Tour de force" awakens.

    JJ wins!

    In 2015, with the drones, Internet, Twitter and cellphones.
    23 days from Episode 7 and JJ and Co have managed to keep most of Star Wars Episode 7 a secret:

    - Who is Snoke, what he looks like, where he comes from?.... we have nothing but speculation.
    - Where is Luke?
    - Han dies? Really?
    - Who is Kylo Ren? Rey?
    - Maz Kanata?
    - What is the Starkiller weapon?

    Actually, we know almost nothing about the characters... if we are maximum spoiled, we may figure out how the story goes, the action sequences take place...

    But... the characters are still mysterious

    I've never seen so much speculation on a Star Wars episode as on this one (since maybe the OT), in an era where scripts are posted online and movies are spoiled to the bone.

    So.... CONGRATULATIONS TO JJ, you win!

    Even if I visit this board and spoiler filled web sites for the last 2 years.... I am still going inside a theater on December 17th with almost no idea, whatsoever, what to expect.

    That's what we call in French, in 2015, A "Tour de Force".

    I'd say we know what happens, but not why. The characters are still pretty mysterious too. I hope it stays that way until the 18th!

    I remember back in 1999, 3 weeks before TPM came out, I had read the book, listened to the soundtrack, knew that Qui Gon would be killed by Maul and that Jar Jar would be annoying.

    For Episode II, the web documentaries spoiled the whole movie in advance, Topps cards were out, the soundtrack, we basically knew the whole plot... and what we didn't knew... we still don't know yet (Who is Syfo-Dias? What was Dooku's plan, who are the Lost 20?)

    Episode III.... well, the movie was filmed with webcams all over the place (Remember "Hyperspace")...
    Again... 3 weeks before the movie comes out, we were spoiled by the Soundtrack, photos from the set....

    This time around.... beside concept art and some rare photos from the set... we know nothing, and no soundtrack yet.
    No web documentaries....

    Rey is Luke's daughter, yeah, probably... that's what I believe.... but... it's still speculation.

    Not exactly. We do have comments from JJ and Serkis. It's not much, but it's something.

    At Skellig Michael, sitting on a stone chair waiting for Rey to give him the lightsaber... ;)

    Yes, really. They failed to keep this a secret.

    All signs point to Kylo Ren being Han and Leia's son; revealed at some point during the movie.
    Rey's parentage is not explicitly revealed in this movie.

    What about her? She's an ancient Yoda rip-off that wears goggles. ;)

    Is a planet that is also a weapon. It's on the poster. It is capable of destroying entire star systems (officially confirmed, btw).

    We know as much about the characters as is revealed in the ~2 hour movie.
    The rest is for books, other media, etc.

    They will still be so when the credits roll.
    e.g. We will have no idea where Snoke comes from.

    Seriously? You could have a better idea if you wanted. We know the entire movie virtually scene-for-scene. Except for dialogue, we have a pretty good idea of what to expect. Seeing it all come to life on the big screen is a different matter, of course...

    Spoiler: it is discovered that Luke is monorchidal and this has really aided him with his Jedi acrobatic feats.

    He's in solitude because he's half the man he used to be.

    Although he gets a robotic prosthetic in ep8.

    Spoiler - The entire movie takes place in an alternate timeline due to Luke going back in time running away from space Hitler and slipping through a wormhole, causing the galaxy to be ruled by the Nazis.

    I am amazed at the level of secrecy that has been maintained from the cast and crew of the Force Awakens. I think it really shows how passionate they are about what they are working on and wan everyone to love it too. I'm glad, too. It will help us all enjoy opening day a lot more. I wonder if they will maintain this high level of secrecy in Episode 8.

    I don't and I won't... I am too curious... But JJ managed to keep the movie quite secret to the general audience so far... I would be surprised too if he manages to do that after the premiere indeed.
