isn't that the point of fans toxicity thread or what?
I thought this is a thread in which we will be abolished for expressing our spontaneous and unprovoked toxicity.

Im sorry you lost me. The point of the thread is we have toxicity taken over Star Wars fandom. Rather then discuss disagreements people are attacking each other. They are using toxic language and dog whistles to call people names and cause people to get excessively angry rather then trying to understand each others point of view.

Sadly toxic fandom doing more damage this week. Not sure who has seen this, but Rian Johnson paid a compliment to Christopher McQuarrie on twitter and that turned into toxic fans bashing Christopher McQuarrie so much that he stated that he has lost interest in making a Star Wars film. James Mangold (Logan) and James Gunn even chimed in and seemed to echo what Christopher McQuarrie said.

Sad that such talented people are feeling like fandom is making it not worth it to participate.

Toxic people are bad people, but they will stop this, if we just ignore them.

I don't say this to justify any toxic actions. I say this in a spirit of trying to understand:

I think to understand toxic fandom, you need the concept of gentrification. For a long time, "nerd culture" lived at the fringes of society. It was a haven for those who felt outcast, bullied, etc. It was a place they could go and be themselves, express their interest free from ridicule or bullying. And yes, many of these people were white males.

Fast forward to the last decade. Nerd culture has gone mainstream. At first this is fine. Why not invite others to the party? We want to see the things we love succeed, right?

But here's the thing, and I believe this is an important distinction for a lot of hot button issues today: there's a big difference between saying "there aren't enough minorities represented" and saying "there are too many white males."

I think a lot of fans suddenly felt that their haven from the world was invaded by the world. The place they could be themselves without ridicule suddenly became a source of ridicule. They began to hear culture saying, "there are too many of you white males here, get out and make room."

I don't believe that culture, as a whole, is saying this. I believe some extremists are saying this, and that throws fuel on the fire of toxic fandom. But I DO believe that, whatever was actually intended, this "too many white males" thing is what many fans think they're being told. In their minds, they let the popular kids into the neighborhood, into the thing they love and value, only to be told they're no longer wanted in the neighborhood they founded.

Good video on the state of Star Wars Fandom

Also as much as I dont want Star Wars actors and creators to stop sharing beliefs. Do you think that they are also part of the division? I wonder if some of the people that disagree with the views of people like Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and others; are being pulled into the Star Wars discussion. Wonder if any discernible amount really dont consider themselves as Star Wars fans, but chime in because of disagreement with the views of Star Wars public figures.

Part of the issue still surrounding TLJ debates a year later, is that people can't agree on things that did or didn't happen in the film.
