After the title release I can't help but worry we are in for tragic and untimely deaths for now all of our beloved ot characters. This is not how I pictured the sequels going as it sort of waters down everything they fought for against the empire. I can understand han solo being killed off to add drama and tension between the solo siblings (Ben and Rey) but please don't tell me they plan to kill off Luke in this trilogy. We've already lost Carrie tragically and hope they don't just kill off her character in a way the amazing character doesn't deserve. Han's death was already a bit underwhelming to just give Leia an early and undeserving death as well.. Fisher would not have wanted that for the strong female figure Leia was and will always be for us ot fans.

Hopefully 'the last jedi' is indeed Plural (though that's wishful thinking) and we get to see Luke and Rey save /recruit a couple more force users. Maybe even make Kyle Katarn Canon!! What do ya'll think, friends? Would you prefer the title to be singular or plural and why?

You really think Mark Hamill wants to play a space wizard for the rest of his life? C'mon...

At least for 7,8,9! Maybe become a force ghost at the tail end. I'd be okay with that, but give him some redemption first, please!!

The one thing about the SW movies is nobody survives the next Trilogy, as even Game of Thrones doesn't kill all its main characters!

Anakin, Padme, Kenobi, Yoda, Palpatine, Bail Organa, QuiGon all dead. Why would you think any OT characters would make it through the ST?

    Except Jar Jar survived.......

Luke won't survive this trilogy as, although I hate to say it, the chances of Mark Hamill being around for another trilogy decreases by the year.
They've already lost Leia. Do you risk making another trilogy with Luke in mind? I wouldn't.
Let's finish his story. Finish the Skywalker story. And move on.

I disagree. I hope they will kill all the classic characters in this new trilogy, it is time to pass the torch. Even the droids C3p0 and R2 can be destroyed, we now have Bb-8.The new characters are excelents, specially Rey and Kylo, so we are in good hands, these kids will be the next Luke and Vader for this new generation of fans. Wanna see Luke as a force ghost in TLJ or IX, it will be cool see him in a old Ben Kenobi style.

Allow me to reassess. What i hope for is not for them all to survive, but rather don't make give them ONLY doom and gloom in the ST. I'm afraid they'll have to kill off Leia in a cheapened way because of Carry Fishers tragic death and also, Luke has yet to be redeemed again after his failure with Ben and Jedi Academy. Now that Han Solo has been killed in the most tragic of ways it would be discouraging and beyond frustrating to see Luke and Leia parish without a happy moment. That's what I'm afraid of. My dream was to see Luke training a new generation of Jedi on screen and have deep and great relationships with other respectful Jedi. Han will be missed and Leia now a General rather than a elegant and powerful politician and Jedi in the New Republic? It all makes for a gloomy end for our friends without seeing their joy after the Empire was eradicated from the galaxy. I'm for one not liking it so much.

They already have passed the torch. I'm all on board with the new characters, but that doesn't mean Luke couldn't be a Master Jedi on a new council down the road.. I don't care if they kill him off because that's nearly a certainty, but I just hope to see him rebuild what he started a bit before becoming one with the force. It would be a shame he's just portrayed as a lonely failure after accomplishing so much. :(

I like the idea of living off screen and imaging a new story. Luke I am back and forth, being a Jedi and all, you can always be one with the Force. Chewie is only 234 years old, that's still young for a wookiee.

I think Disney is over protective of their brand. They will come up with an appropriate send off of General Organa, and I don't believe they'll kill off Luke just for the sake of killing off the OT characters, because they understand how beloved they are. They killed off Han because thats what Harrison wanted from way back in ROTJ and I think thats one of the reasons he came back. I think Luke might perish in the next trilogy. Hopefully he will still be with us. Disney is not touching that. They never respond to fans and they responded on Leia issue a few weeks ago. So they're not about to do anything stupid that will cause controversy. They will not damage their 4 billion dollar investment. This is Hollywood they make films for muni...

They can have Luke surviving this trilogy and he is either weakened by a fight or by age, but still can act as a guide between the ST and the SST. In case Mark doesn't want to do any appearances in the SST, Luke could have still passed away in the opening crawl of X. But this leaves at least such an option and chances for canon EU material between the trilogies including Luke. I prefer not to see Luke's death on screen and better leave his fate open to interpretation.

And Ben/Kylo Ren is half Skywalker half Solo. So it wouldn't be a problem to continue the Skywalker story.. Leia is an Skywalker, So Ben has the Skywalker blood in him. If Ben is redeemed, the Skywalker story can continue.;);)
And by the way, I dont see Rey being a Skywalker, its just to obvious.

R2 will always be around. He is quite possibly the one who is telling us this story anyway, according to the theory surrounding the Journal of the Whills.

Luke Skywalker is my favorite SW character, but I don't want to see him if they do Episode 10,11,12. At some point you have to move on from these great characters, or you risk the chance of just ruining them.

Yep, let this trilogy see the end of the Skywalker clan. "Forever sleep, earned it they have".

    Don't worry. Rey is Ben's little sister, so she's a Skywalker/ Solo too. :)

I'm 100% sure that even with Luke having a title about him and probably we'll see cool Luke's scenes, some fans will be mad because Luke will not be the protagonist.

Han, Leia and Luke had 3 movies about them, it's time to give space to the new generation of heroes.

"As for the future of ‘Star Wars’ Hamill is optimistic… but says that it’s not about Skywalker.
“It’s not about me anymore – it’s the story of Rey and Finn and Poe and all of them and that’s the way it should be." https://uk.movies.yahoo.com/mark-hamill-says-star-wars-8-has-some-great-new-113813752.html
