Trained or not, Leia should not end this trilogy without massive display of the Force. She is the daughter of Darth "phreaking" Vader.

Leia should not die without an on screen use of the Force that is both powerful and meaningful. To be honest it would do more for the story if this occurrence of her using Force power where a massive use of the Dark Side.

Perhaps she, at her death scene, if she has one, brings Han Solo or Luke or maybe Kylo back from the dead. A nod to Plagueis.

    Oh wait...or bring Pademe back...wow.

Imagine that...the one dream of Darth Vader...

Interesting thought. I will say, it would surprise me if Leia didn't become a Jedi at some point in the new canon. Luke specifically tells her in Ep. VI, "You're wrong. You have that power, too. In time, you will learn to use it as I have."

    "...as I have."

How does Luke use the Force? Not just intuitively and indirectly, but clearly and powerfully as a Jedi. Granted, he could have been wrong about his idea of Leia's power, but his line there has always suggested to me that Leia would eventually become a fully-fledged Force-user (and no, that wasn't intentional alliteration). :p

I don't understand why people see Vader has a strong force user.

He killed his own troops, children, a willing old man, unarmed people ...

Every time, he faced someone of his level ( Luke, Ahsoka ) he was beaten.

He was terrifying weak people and kneeled before strong ones.

BTW, Leia chosed to have a family, she's not trained.

Well, someone learned how to use force powers before anyone was trained. I imagine in her death (?) Leia could pull off a serious use of the force.

She has certainly lived a life of pain, fear, and sadness.

As for Vader, he killed all the remaining Jedi in order 66 and he was the "chosen one" higher raw force power than even Yoda. The "movies" have not really shown his power other than the earthquake at the end of ROTS.

He killed them with a full army of clones ? 1 vs 1000 ?

Vader was a freak that's why people feared him, he could have killed a new born baby.

No not exactly. Vader hunted down remaining Jedi like Kannan (possibly) and killed them one v one and maybe even Ashoka.

I always thought Luke's line, "In time, you will learn to use it as I have" meant "In time, you will learn to use it as I have learned to use it." In other words, not in the same manner or style, perhaps, but she'll still learn to use what power she has.

I do think she's learned to use her Force ability for intuition (playing hunches, sensing others) and perhaps for manipulating odds (playing sabacc :D), because we've actually seen her do these things in TFA and the new canon books. In fact, Leia recalls that Luke tells her she's been using the Force to enhance her natural intuition all along. So I don't think their "power" has to be the same, or have the same manifestation, but their ability to sense and use the Force could be very similar.

In Life Debt he also says he'll teach her how to sense the Force as he does--but I wonder if he got around to that? Or did he in fact teach her more about using the Force, but she decided to give it up somewhere along the way?

In any case, back to the OP: I hope that Leia doesn't die. And I hope that TPTB will not waste a beloved Light-side OT character doing anything silly like having her go Dark or raise the dead. The Light side of the Force is about far more than raw displays of power--it's everything that is good about life. I'd prefer to have her live and contribute some Light side wisdom to what living is about.

He didn't kill Ahsoka, he got his masked broken, he was limping on his bionic legs, Ahsoka went down to the cave walking normally.

I'm just talking about the movies, he was the weak slave of Palpatine, he always killed weak people. What a chosen one !!

Leia has had the most reason to use the dark side due to her life. She could use it to do good, greying the difference between light and dark. After all, if you use force lightening to save kittens then your probably an ok person.

So who taught the first Dark side user to do "Force Lightening"?

But Leia seems almost devoid of emotions in her decision-making skills .

They probably naturally tapped into it and then taught more people .

Exactly, Leia is suppressing emotions and it will come out at some point.

Exactly, in desperation Leia will figure out what Darth Palguies and Vader aspired to learn.

Leia was always, in the new books, using the Jedi mind trick on people. Maybe she did not realize it. What book was it with the centrist senator, where they went all Sherlock Holmes looking for the bad guys. He was interested Sith and Empire artifacts...

She more or less at some point "told" him what to think and he complied.

Who trained Rey? if nobody trained her, then why couldn't Leia be a powerful force user even without Luke training her?

Putting that to one side... how dangerous would it be to NOT give jedi training to the daughter of the chosen one? She would surely be an easier target for someone like Snoke to get his claws into?

She has the capability to be one of the most dangerous people in the galaxy.

am I way off base in thinking this?

I was thinking this very thing: if anything, with the limited information we have so far, we have more reason to believe Leia could randomly tap into reserves of Force power than Rey. We haven't seen it happen for Leia yet, but it doesn't seem at all unlikely to me.

Why couldn't she have just trained herself in private (not secrecy)? I know some great musicians who not only didn't go to Juliard, but never had any lessons.

My brother has a Star Wars guide from 2008 that references Sidious' master as Darth Plagueis. Just because something hasn't been referenced yet doesn't mean it's automatically non-canon. Remember, Lucas has said for years that Plagueis is Sidious' master.
    What?!
    • He hunted down remaining Jedi after order 66.
    • Luke beat him because he didn't want to kill his own son.
    • Ahsoka never beat him, she was clearly outmatched and was on the defensive the whole time. If taking someone by surprise with a hit to the head equals victory, then I don't know what to say. Vader was defeated by a temple collapsing on top of him, and we don't even know if Ahsoka's alive or dead. For all we know, she could have travelled to the spirit realm and will be resurrected later.

We didn't see the same movies and the same rebels episodes, I guess.

BTW, I created another thread to stay in the subject.
