But...but...a person cannot possibly use the force without training...or so the Rey detractors say.

Kind of like telling a kid from a Kenyan village he cannot run fast because he never had a track coach.

I don't think running fast is in the same example category as using the force...

Indeed. Force sensitivity isn't in everyone, right? (Unless I'm wrong.) Barring disability or injury, however, the ability to run is basically inherent to the human condition. I can see @Background Character's point (hilarious username, by the way), but I feel like there's more of a differentiation than that.

Midichloians are in everyone...it's what makes life in TGFFA...it's a matter of how many midichlorians are in your cells and your natural ability on top of training...

To be fair, Rey isn't trained either. But Leia is pretty good at sensing things. She just seems uninterested in the force for herself that is

If Leia suddenly breaks out with a huge show of the force, having never shown use of the Force in the movies before, that would be very poor, cliche, boring story telling, used only for shock value. I would be hugely disappointed.

I am in the same boat, it wouldn't do anything for me and be a cheap way to get a shock monet in a movie. Even in the books she talks about it herself that she doesn't know enough to use the force other than mediation sometimes.

I highly doubt that Rey hasn't had any training prior to the "awakening", I think her powers laid dormant. I'm very sure she has been trained in the Force by Luke when she was a child. Combine her melee skills with the staff that she learned by herself and you have a powerful combination.

And to get back to the topic, I don't think Leia will become a skilled Jedi but I do think that she will display some sort of mental force power we haven't seen before, something that will come to her naturally when being threatened / almost being killed.

a good point and the book 'Life Debt' hints that Luke started training Leia, but didn't get far with it, since he left for his own missions very early.

Another reason the midi-blood-bugs (or whatever the hell they are) were an ill conceived idea....

Regardless, it's canon and a part of the literal physicality of the force itself but unless Leia is like her dad with more midi chlorine than even Luke that would be the only explanation I could think of with no training whatsoever .

People act like the Force is some big secret. Jedi used to be all over the place and young kids with force sensitivities probably taught themselves at least some amount of use of Force powers. Even Rey and Finn had heard of Jedi and Sith and probably had some idea of what they could do even if they thought it was all just "made up".

Rey had probably heard of the "Jedi Mind Trick" and she taught herself to use it right in front of us on the screen by trying over and over. Her extra midichlorians from being Luke's daughter allowed her to have quicker results than a weaker force user might.

Rey of Hope...get it? A New Hope = Luke. Rey is a Rey of hope.
She got that Sabre from a "Hope" chest.

eh...i'm not so sure to be honest..someone like rey seemed to learn on-the-job training which made her seem way too powerful but Leia was soo tactical to care with using it in more subtle and emotional manners

I think Leia should definitely show some sort of force-sensitivity in a life-and-death situation. Nothing spectacular like using The Force to bring a TIE Fighter down or anything. But something small, like a building is collapsing on her/Resistance members, and she is able to deflect the debris just enough that no one gets killed or seriously injured.

On a side note, I read somewhere that Maz Kanata was supposed to show she was force-sensitive in a similar way when her castle was destroyed, but it was cut because it didn't add anything to the movie. I think they could instead use this situation with Leia, just as a reminder that she still has Darth Vader's blood flowing through her veins, but she actively chose not to pursue The Force. But, like Rey, requires no formal training to use The Force in a life-and-death situation.

I think of it like Dragonball Z. No one taught Goku to become a Super Saiyan, though there were rumors and legends of the Legendary Super Saiyans. But, after the death of his best friend Krillin, he goes galactic and bursts forth with this legendary power to take down the one that killed Krillin, Frieza.

If they kill Leia, I will riot.

The Ice Princess, ladies and gents.

Story Group has mentioned that every material published prior to 2014 other than the movies and The Clone Wars is non-canon. Darth Plagueis is canon since it was mentioned in ROTS and the relationship with Darth Sidious as his apprentice mentioned on StarWars.com

Exactly. I would not complain if they show something like that.

Leia has displayed use of the Force in every single movie she has been in (if you don't count ROTS).

Well, she was born when many thought the "child" had died with Padme, so...maybe she did there too! ;)
