So the audience numbers are in and it's worth pointing out if you look at the average critic score (6.24) it's higher than Jumanji 2 even though it has a higher tomato score. RT just categories reviews as fresh/rotten so that can happen.

That aside. This is the worst reviewed Star Wars film and it's also the worst in terms of audience scores.

Pretty much all the numbers are down across the board. The Cinemascore is a B+.

There are tons of fans who love this film and just because the audiences don't love this as much as the previous films doesn't mean your opinion is invalidated. JJ took a big swing and it didn't connect with everyone.

So far it's as I have foreseen (maybe I'm related to the Palpatine too?). Critics score - less than 60%, audience - about 80%. Cinemascore - B+. This movie definitely isn't as great as some people claim it is.

I'm not sure what data you're pulling. I do notice you're pulling the audience score from RT which is useless. They've changed the way they measure audience lately so it's better than it was, but it's still essentially an online poll.

Well, I guess I am with critics both in the case of The Last Jedi and The Rise of the Skywalker. My personal score is TLJ: 8.5 and TROS: around 6, so that is basically it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That data is from rottentomatoes. The subject of this thread is the tomatometer. TRoS is not “the worst in terms of audience scores.”

So far, 86% of the over 17,000 people who voted liked it.

It is as great as some people claim it to be because that is their opinion on it. What other people think about it has no bearing on what someone’s opinion of greatness is. With your statement you could reverse it and say that with the B+ score the movie is not as bad as some people claim it to be. However, that statement would be as equally disingenuous

We don't have this audience score for any other Star Wars film. It didn't even exist 6 months ago.

This thread about the RT critic/audience score which is bad for a Star Wars film and now the question is do audiences agree with critics. So far the industry audience scores agree. Don't shoot the messenger. :)

The tomatometer for TRoS is 57% / 86% critics / audiences.

Rottentomatoes now limits who can vote to people confirmed to have seen the movie. 86% of now 18,000 of those people liked it.

If you click on “more info” and “all audience” you can see the score that includes people not confirmed to have seen it. 76% of 53,000 people like it.

People like The Rise of Skywalker.

The RT numbers look pretty good on the fan side of things. 86% looks mighty fine to me. I'm expecting good but not great.

Huh? Worst fan reviewed film of the saga from the audience? Where are you getting this data? It is scoring on average, 20 point better than any of the Prequels.
    --- Double Post Merged, Dec 21, 2019, Original Post Date: Dec 21, 2019 ---
Audience score of 86% right now. Guess you underestimated peoples desire to simply go to a movie and have fun and not over think everything. And one thing JJ can deliver, is fun.

Flat out, I disagree with the RT score for TROS. 57% is SHOCKINGLY low. Yes that's right. Based on some of the RIDICULOUS praise many other movies have gotten that couldn't hold a candle to The Rise of Skywalker.

I personally feel a 70% to low 80's is where it should be sitting, I would score it even higher, but that's the average I would think fits based on so many scores that have come before it. SHAME on the critics for that many rotten tomatoes, especially considering the high score of TLJ.

The numbers are the numbers. I like the movie so I'm not here to rain on the parade. This was always the struggle discussing The Last Jedi. The general audience for Star Wars is HUGE. Most fans aren't spending time discussing it online. These surveys show what the entire fanbase thinks.

Going by the current audience scores, The Rise of Skywalker is in a three-way tie for fourth best with Rogue One and The Force Awakens.

    1. The Empire Strikes Back - 97
    2. Star Wars - 96
    3. Return of the Jedi - 94
    4. The Rise of Skywalker - 86
    5. Rogue One - 86
    6. The Force Awakens - 86
    7. Revenge of the Sith - 66
    8. Solo - 63
    9. The Phantom Menace 59
    10. Attack of the Clones - 56
    11. The Last Jedi - 43

Rotten Tomatoes now differentiates between those who are verified to have seen the movie or not. When you view the "all audience" score which removes that filter, it drops to sixth. Not bad!

    1. The Empire Strikes Back - 97
    2. Star Wars - 96
    3. Return of the Jedi - 94
    4. Rogue One - 86
    5. The Force Awakens - 86
    6. The Rise of Skywalker - 76
    7. Revenge of the Sith - 66
    8. Solo - 63
    9. The Phantom Menace 59
    10. Attack of the Clones - 56
    11. The Last Jedi - 43

It does drop down next to last with critics though.

    1. The Empire Strikes Back - 94
    2. Star Wars - 93
    3. The Force Awakens - 93
    4. The Last Jedi - 91
    5. Rogue One - 83
    6. Return of the Jedi - 82
    7. Revenge of the Sith - 80
    8. Solo - 70
    9. Attack of the Clones - 65
    10. The Rise of Skywalker - 57
    11. The Phantom Menace - 53

The last few years have opened my eyes a bit about movie critics. I mean they are all failed artists in some way to begin with but they seem to be more concerned about politics than story. They'll now tank a movie if it's not progressive enough.

They fail to see people are paying money strictly for entertainment, not life lessons.

Indeed, quite wrong there. Which makes TLJ’s audience score even more of an oddity.

Only the Original Trilogy movies have higher audience scores, unless it slips a percentage or two. Over 20,000 votes now though.

My issue with the confirmation thing is it's quite limited. As Brit, there's no way I can verify my tickets (and in fact even if I could I wouldn't because I wouldn't want them slurping my data). But I am real person, who saw the film. I think it's jsut skewing results in a different way than it did before. Probably a fairer way, but one that excludes my legitimate input, so personally I feel justifed in not liking it :D
