With the release of The Force Awakens right around the corner, I think it's important to keep things in perspective. While it's been said publicly that TFA can stand alone as a movie, I think we all know better.
Star Wars fans will not be satisfied until we see the entire new trilogy. When we reference Star Wars in our minds, we think in Trilogies. The PT, the OT. It's rare we look back at the individual films. The same will hold true of the ST.

If Luke is barely in TFA, but has a huge impact on Epiosde 8, then nobody will care. When we get our Luke moment, all will be forgiven. For TFA, I think Han is going to steal the show thus satisfying our nostalgic desires. Hopefully we get enough Luke to hold us over.

All in all, I believe TFA won't be truly appreciated until the whole Sequel Trilogy is complete and we understand fully why and how everything unfolded as it did.

TFA will have a complete storyline like ANH, but with big questions left unanswered either brought up or alluded too like ESB. Except there won't likely be reveaedl until 8 or 9.

you know, the SAGA may be complete after 9 unless it makes boat loads (as stated by Kathy), so yes...

Since they abandoned Lucas' ideas I dont see any reason why they wouldn't make another trilogy after this one. (It needs to make sense though). Do you think they will do Star Wars Episode X when Boyega Ridley and others are old ?

Wonder if they would ever consider making a Star Wars film, either anthology or trilogy that isn't part of this storyline. R1 is a standalone film, but fits in between 3 and 4, so could really be Episode 3.5. And, the Han Solo film is still taking a character from this story and focusing on him. I wonder if after Episode 9 if they would consider making a storyline maybe 1,000 years before Luke's time, or a film within the same timeline but with totally new characters on the other side of the galaxy.

You know, I was wondering why no reporter every asked them that question. I mean think about Mark, Carrie, and Ford right after Star Wars. I'm sure they NEVER thought they would return for a sequel, let alone 38 years later to reprise those same roles. Can you imagine 60 year old Boyega and Ridley returning to play these same characters 38 years later! God, I hope we're all still around for that!:D I'll be 83!!!

Yes, THIS particular saga. But the name of the story is Star Wars. The Skywalker portion could be but a chapter in the overall story of the war in the stars.

Actually... There is footage of an interview with Hamill in which he talks about George asking him about doing Ep 7 30 years later. I think was shot between ANH and ESB

This is true. In all honestly, TPM wasn't even needed to tell the story. I guess Lucas just really wanted to show a child Darth Vader yelling Yipee!!!

The point of having "Baby Anakin Skywalker" was to show he evolution of Darth Vader and the fall towards The Dark Side would be even THAT MUCH MORE heartbreaking, at least that was the intention .

Yeah, i get that was the design. The execution was the issue. When I look back at Anakin now, I prefer the Anakin from The Clone Wars series to Hayden Christensen. I think Anakin's fall and turn was the single biggest issue I had with the PT.

In my opinion, movies are like good (or bad) wines.... they set themselves as classics, decent or bad...or dated with time.

I have sooooo many examples.... for instance, one of my favorites... 2001 A Space Odyssey.

When I was a kid, it was rated (4) - Good in my TV Guide.... now (1) as Masterpiece.

The Empire Strikes Back was for at least 10 years considered as the weakest of the Star Wars episodes

I fell in love with Avatar (went to watch it 5 times in theaters).... now... I can barely watch it now that the effects are getting dated.

Groundhog Day was a casual comedy back in the early 90s... now, it's a comedy classic.

    Movies are like wines....

I can still watch Charlie Chaplin movies and laugh my heart out.
My boy watches old Mickey Mouse Cartoons (dated 1936) and I've never seen him laugh as hard and get invested in a cartoon as this one.

When there is a strong story, strong characters and a minimum of elements that would put a time stamp on the film... the better it has chances to become eternal.

I personally wish they had started Anakin at about the same age as Luke, about 19 in the Phantom Menace and had him become Darth Vader at the end of Attack of the Clones. In part 3 he should have hunted down the Jedi as Darth Vader, and shown why Darth Vader was so feared as we entered into A New Hope.

    After Episode 9?

The Force Awakens becomes known as the one we skip to get to the movies with Luke in them in the sequel trilogy....(if the MSW stuff is true)

...TFA becomes known as "the one where they killed Han Solo and didn't even give him a funeral and only put Luke in it for 2 seconds".
