Don't Uber Luke. (Like the way I verbed that adjective? Me neither. But it was cool how I verbed "verb" like that.)

Luke won by seeing the good in his enemy and calling on him to see the good in himself.

Luke didn't overcome evil with a more badass form of evil. He overcame evil with good. In the moment of his victory he threw down his lightsaber and walked away from triumph. Luke won by refusing to fight.

This was how the OT ended, folks. It wasn't the Light Side being stronger than the Dark Side, it was the bond between a father and a son that beat evil. It was George Lucas' acknowledgement that Love is stronger than the Force.

Don't action-hero Luke. (Ha! You've been verbed!) He's not some legendary saber-master with Force powers beyond anything we've imagined. That's the EU Luke, but that's now how we see him in ROTJ. He's just a good man with a good heart who tries to get others to see the good in themselves, too. There's power in that.

Enough power to topple an Empire.

Luke doesn't need uber powers. Giving him uber powers would diminish what he accomplished in ROTJ.

Keep Luke like he is - a good person, a loyal friend, a man who changes the game with his hero heart, not his hero lightsaber.

What no happy fun ball force gymnastics like my boy Yoda?

Who else can force hurl the moon of Jub Jub infront of the incoming blast from New Starkiller Base?

I thought you were going to say "Don't let it be that he has catch rides everywhere. Let him fly himself occasionally."

    I must agree.

I hope they did used into account Lucas PT and some faliures in there including acrobatic Yoda which almost ruined Yoda from my childhood.

Yeah, I think I feel this way, too.

Luke needs to be powerful, sure. But he should be a more reluctant power.

If he has to have a saber fight, make it clear that he's an immovable object, but he doesn't need to be flippity floppiting all around on the offensive like Yoda. Just let him hold his ground and parry brutal attack after brutal attack with relative ease.

    ???

He can't do both? He can't demonstrate that he's learned and acquired immense power and abilities initially in the story, and ultimately triumph with something conventional, ordinary, and accessible by everyone? Does it have to be zero sum?

Whatever happens, some people will hate it.
That exactly what happened with Yoda in Episode 2. Some people loved it ( especially the younger generation )and some hated it, because Lucas decided to let Yoda have a fight which was not possible in the 80s.

Yes, the technical aspect comes into play, but it has definitely more to do with him saying "Wars not make one great." To be honest, I'm not really sure how should I feel about Yoda fighting. On one hand, as we say in Poland, "only cows don't change opinions" and Yoda simply changed his mind. On the other hand it strips him away from some kind of reverence that he had in Episodes V and VI, seeing him jumping around and doing sick flips and stuff.

IMO, ironically, that describes Count Dooku's fighting style perfectly. But I have no problem with that being Luke's style - it makes sense.

I hope he has grown in wisdom instead of becoming acrobatic fighter in his late years.

Luke going full Super Saiyajin would be kinda badass.

Although I don't want an uber Luke, per se, but this isn't the OT. I certainly don't want him to be some all powerful genie, but somewhat powerful and wise.

    I loved prequel Yoda and I'm 43.

I just hear people talk about Luke like he is a force god. Therefore Snoke has be super extreme uber. I want real tension and that is emotion. That means Kylo.

No, please? Taking a Star Destroyer down is just showing off. If there'll be a need to present Luke's power there's no need to go beyond the Vader scene from Rogue One. Make the viewer feel the power of the Force user not by making him pull off some cheap trickery, but think about lighting, camera movement, editing and music (!) instead. That's where the true magic happens. Yoda lifting an X-wing is awesome not just because he lifted a heavy object but because of how it was shown on screen.

    Well, yes and no.

Yes, Luke can have learned and acquired immense power. I don't object to that at all, as long as those powers are used in character. But if Luke becomes a fighting machine and a Force warrior then he's less mature in VIII than he was in VI. And I do object to that.

No, you're totally right. I'd still want his style to be more broadsword and less Dooku fencing, but I thought the same thing. It works because it shows both his power and his reluctance to fully indulge in it.

Great thread. I agree at 200%.

From what is rumored, TLJ seems to focuse more on Luke's mystical aknoledgement than actual power, which is great. Who wants Luke to take down a Destroyer will probably be disappointed. Or at least is what I hope.

I look forward to Luke's performance in the latest episode of Star Protests.

Seriously though, I would like to see Luke actually do things and not act like some kind of space gandhi. However, let's not introduce those ridiculous force power escalation present in some parts of the old EU, no Star Destroyer breaking or Force storms etc. Too much power creep.

And that applies to the other Force wielders too (looking at you Rey).
