True but the clip was of the famous/infamous Obi-Ani spin. But decent coreography isn't uber.

It is a bit of a movie trope to have the mentors do their ultra powered wizards duel in the background, but have the real emotions come from a conflict between lesser combatants.

See ROTS (yoda vs palpy was badass, obi vs ani was the heart) or big trouble in little china (kurt russel vs whoever, and old wizards with magic finger puppet duel)

Actually, he threw down his Saber and then started to get his behind kicked until father had a moment of clarity and saved him.

In my opinion love is the light side.

Enough of a Saber master to beat Vader. And he had just become a Jedi in ROTJ, he should of gained a lot in 30 years.

Luke has to change, because it's not realistic he's the same. He can gave all the same values, but he's progressed in power and wisdom.

I surely hope we get to see Luke at full power, much like we've seen Anakin and Kylo Ren. And Rey. It'd be a shame if the son of the chosen one was a dud who just had to hold things turned out ok. In my opinion of course.

In a similar vein, I thought Nobody's Perfect meant: "Uber!? Don't Uber Luke. He's a Jedi Master, for chrissakes: he deserves a limo!"

Gotta say I'm 95% delighted with the way they did Luke in The Last Jedi.

I like the fact that he's conflicted. He's not comfortable with the "legend" status or the expectations that come with it. I love that he realized the Jedi don't own the Force, that it connects all living things, not just those who can manipulate it.

Luke understands that the Force can't be monopolized by the Jedi or the Sith, that efforts to do so are vanity, that the tension and connection between birth and death, peace and violence, light and dark - the Force - exist separately from the dogmas of the Sith or the Jedi.

The only thing I didn't like was Luke's rudeness towards Rey. Reluctant or not, it seems out of character to treat his guest like that.

Well you were absolutely right and the movie captures your and my preferred version of Luke perfectly. However, I don't feel that the rude Luke was 'out of character', I didn't feel rude Yoda in ESB is out of character. It is the trope archetype of the reluctant teacher. But is also an aspect of advanced age. He has become a bit more sceptical, cynical even, disenchanted perhaps. But the beautiful thing is that Rey's arrival forces him to re-discover his old self. As he tells Yoda, "I've become weak". At the end of the movie we see the Luke just as we imagined him to be.

Prophetic. That's exactly how Luke was handled in this movie. And it was correct, despite the neckbeard nerdrage.

Where is that? A good person? - nope clearly grumpy and ignore res help.
A loyal friend? - nope grumpy and don't care about res help
A man who changes the game? where? By insulting Kylo?

Very few asked for a Lukesaber. Many asked for a true Jedi, an wise old man. There is none in TLJ.

Huh? Luke trained Rey (some), gave her sage advice, "met" with his sister for a final time and cleared his conscience, saved the day for the resistance, and did all of this without kilking a single person or using the weapon he tossed to the side in ROTJ. I would say these are the hallmarks of a heroic good person and loyal friend.

    Agreed.

If you think about it Luke has to be sick of violence. He's the son of the Galaxy's Adolph Hitler, and he shed his own share of blood when he torpedoed the Death Star. Sure, lightsabers are cool. But Luke has learned better than to try to overcome violence with more violence. He's tired of war, tired of bloodshed, tired of it all. Luke turned away from violence at the end of ROJT, and I'm glad he didn't return to it in TLJ.

And Gekko, I agree Luke was too grumpy towards his guest. He could have said "There's been enough death already, I won't teach you how to cause more of it with the Force, but go back and tell Leia to do _____ and the Resistance fleet will be safe."

Your kind of Luke is even more "over the top" than Lukesaber in EU.

    All mighty saint Luke (lol).

Yes he is. But he's over the top in a way that's consistent with what we see in the OT.

    And I'm good with that.
