How did you feel about Owen being Anakin's step-brother? Would you have made him Anakin's biological brother? Would you have made him Obi-Wan's brother? Would you have made Beru Anakin's sister? Would you have had Owen try to stop Anakin from joining the Jedi like Obi-Wan implied he did?

I feel indifferent about it. Anakin didn't have anything to do with Owen other than the time he visited the Lars farm to track down his mother. I was never that keen on Uncle Owen anyway. He was just a grumpy old man that came over more that he was reluctant to lose a farm hand than a nephew. Owen and Beru did a good job of protecting Luke from the Empire and of the truth about his ancestry for all those years. It was a responsibility that ultimately cost them their lives. That is about the best thing I can say about Owen. I would say I wouldn't change anything about his role or hers in the movie. They played their part in the story perfectly.

I also would have left things pretty much as they were, with the exception of possibly a bit more interaction between Owen and Anakin, because in ANH Obi-wan makes it sound as if Owen knew Anakin a bit better than it seems from ROTS. I like the fact that Anakin was Owen's step brother, otherwise we might have wondered why he didn't have the Force.

And also, I have always really liked Cliegg Lars. His brief appearance got across the fact that Shmi ended up very much loved by not only him, but the entire community, many of whom lost their lives to find her. There is some solace in knowing that, and Anakin should have acknowledged it but he was too wrapped up in his own feelings.

Cliegg was a very good man. Obi Wan knew this, and knew Owen and Beru were likely very good people, too (despite how gruff Owen got when he was older- a tough life can do that to people). Beru seemed as good as gold to the end. It's sad to me that no one ever explains what happens to Cliegg, as he's not around when Luke is given to Owen and Beru. I assume he, too, died of his injuries not long after Shmi did.

I'm glad there wasn't more interaction between Owen and Anakin. Otherwise, placing Luke there would have felt incredibly stupid. However, both he and Beru should have interacted more with Padme (like in the deleted scenes). It would have given the last scene in ROTS a bit more depth and given some motivation for their taking on raising someone else's baby when their lives are already so difficult.
