I wonder if my dream of Speilberg directing a movie will come true... though, I'm worried what that means with RJ's trilogy and GOT writers films. They're not considered standalones are they?

The RJ project is already underway so it seems exempt from this

RJ's trilogy is still happening, as far as we know. As for GoT guys - they are still busy with GoT, so whatever they make is too far out in the future to worry about right now.

Even though I'm a sucker for a Kenobi movie, I was never a big fan of the standalone movies. Especially not the "let's tell the origin story of this character". Is this a good strategy though? I don't thinks so. But if that means everything and everyone is now focusing their powers on Rian's trilogy, then it could be great.

I think you should be happy (I am!), because this means these movies are the focus right now. :p The guy from Collider said that "it's the Rian Johnson's trilogy that everybody's hard at work on" (exact quote). Which should be taken with a grain of salt, because he also said that he's not as sure about the fate of that project as he is about the standalones. But that's what he's "hearing."

I'd be okay with this if they made a Kenobi movie before shutting down the standalone factory. ;)

I was initially disappointed by this news, but after thinking about it, I now see that it's for the best. 3 out of the 4 Disney-era Star Wars movies have had troubled productions requiring them to be pushed back and they've already gone through almost twice as many directors. Going back to the "one project at a time" policy ensures that each project gets it own individual attention and resources don't have to be split as much.

Ewan would probably be too expensive, but Boba Fett could work. Good thinking!

Btw. it's worth noting that we're probably never going to hear an official word about this. None of the potential spin-offs were ever officially announced, so they have no business in mentioning them. They will simply announce what's really next at the Celebration. I hope it'll boil down to some details about Rian's trilogy (what, when) and further confirmation that the B&W thing will happen.

Not really. Their wish is basically this:
Phase 1 - Fire KK and RJ
    Phase 2 - ...
Phase 3 - They get movies they want (so, Profit)

Although, they would indeed pipe down because the next thing to obsessively hate is more than a year away.

Maybe they are still planning on doing an Obi Wan movie, but just weren't able to make it work with Ewan's schedule at the moment so decided to just kill any rumors until after episode 9 and then let them start back up when the sequel trilogy is complete.

Couldn't they scrap the spin offs after Obi Wan got his movie?

This could only be good news for the franchise as a whole, especially for fans who want stronger and more impactful storylines told off-screen via supplementary material.

Part of the reason that the current canon offerings of books and comics are strictly limited to uneventful and lackluster one-shot stories is because of this suffocating "annual film" model that Disney/LFL has been embracing. It doesn't allow the franchise to breathe, or to have any imaginative and creative legroom to tell big and expansive story arcs in the vein of NJO or LOTF or FOTJ, because all the big ideas have to be sacrificed to the bigger movie event happening on an annual basis. Hopefully, with a focus on main-saga films, Disney/LFL will space the releases of these films a lot more, and allow their new canon to flourish.

I also think that the failure of Solo means that the spin-off films, when they do happen in the future, will be of higher quality. Lucasfilm will be extremely wary of repeating the same production mismanagement and poor communication, and strive harder to make Boba Fett and Kenobi far batter quality films. I know a good chunk of people enjoyed Solo---there's nothing wrong with that, I enjoyed Rogue One for a lot of the same reasons---and just like Rogue One, I hope they can agree that we lost a much better film due to production issues and poor management.

I'm a massive Obi-Wan Kenobi fan. He is my favorite character in the Star Wars universe. I don't want to see the only filmic opportunity for Ewan to return to the role squandered by the same production issues. That would be a tragic waste.

Thanks to all TLJ haters, and SOYLO backers, true Star Wars fans will never see an OB1 film. I supported Solo so this would not happen, I supported Solo so we could get an OB1 film, yet I couldn't buy enough tickets to prevent this I'm just one person... thanks to all the so-called Star Wars Fans Bravo!!!

I think you're giving too much credit to those haters. With such a massive gap between the results of Solo and the other 3 films, it looks to be a matter of not getting the general audience to see it. Insufficient marketing + rough release spot + loud BTS issues - these are the main reasons, I think. IMO they're cancelling standalones to be more focused, to avoid problems they had with Trank, Edwards, Lord and Miller. For some reason they always had problems with getting these spin-offs right from the production standpoint.
