UPDATE! Han Solo: Paul Bettany Joins Star Wars Cast

Director Ron Howard keeps on delivering with new updates on the Han Solo movie, and the latest one concerns a supporting character in the film. Since Michael K. Williams is unavailable for filming at this time, Paul Bettany (Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War) will be portraying the character that Wiliams would have played.





Howard made the announcement on Force Friday via Twitter that he'd be working with Bettany again:

Howard and Bettany have previously collaborated on A Beautiful Mind and The Da Vinci Code, and the two being familiar with one another most likely means that they'll know how to efficiently wrap production. What's most interesting, however, is /Film's report on the situation, which suggests that Bettany will be playing the character that Michael K. Williams was going to portray:

While there are some concerns over Williams losing the role, it should be noted that this ultimately came down to scheduling. In addition, said role was not very large, and it's likely that Williams will be getting another shot at leaving his mark on the Galaxy Far, Far Away soon enough. In any case, Bettany is great actor to have in a supporting role and a great addition to the franchise.







UPDATE!



It seems that according to Deadline (who first broke the news of Michael K Williams dropping from the movie) Bettany will not play Williams' character in Han Solo, but a completely different one. Here's what they said:

So, as you can see we have two contradicting reports. Knowing that Deadline actually broke the news about Williams, perhaps their story is more accurate. We will have to wait and see, but I really don't think it matters much.
