UPDATE! Lucasfilm Still Seems Confident in Rian Johnsons Future in Star Wars - But What About You? Share Your Opinion by Answering the Poll

Gamespot recently spoke with Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson after a special presentation of his new film, Knives Out, at Fantastic Fest. Naturally, they didn't pass up the opportunity to ask him about his involvement in the future of the Star Wars franchise.

Before The Last Jedi was even released, Lucasfilm announced that the director would be attached to a brand new Star Wars trilogy following the conclusion of the Skywalker Saga this December. But even now, this three-film venture is somewhat of an enigma. As Gamespot reminds us, he took to twitter earlier this year to address the rumors of the trilogy's cancellation. And now, Johnson assures us that his future in the franchise is still very much on the table:

That's about as vague as you can get concerning the upcoming project, but the powers that be at Disney/LFL are probably waiting to see how The Rise of Skywalker goes before committing to forge a specific path forward in the franchise.

Johnson also shared that he has been on the set of The Mandalorian and has seen some behind the scenes stuff on the upcoming show (which premieres this November on the Disney + streaming service). He clarified that the show is the only thing he's seen anything about regarding future projects, but while he can't comment on any upcoming films, the fact that he is privy to details on The Mandalorian is pretty telling. That Lucasfilm is continuing to keep him in the loop shows that the company has confidence in the director and still plans to keep him involved moving forward:

Johnson seemed to be very inspired and encouraged from what he saw of The Mandalorian, and his statement about what he wants from Star Wars personally in the future reveals a sentiment that a lot of people who like these movies can get behind:

As I mentioned above, it seems that Disney/LFL is still confident in Rian Johnson's future in Star Wars. But what do you think? Share your opinion by answering the poll below.

Poll removed due to a huge number of votes from proxy ips trying to downvote and corrupt the poll. I really don't understand what kind of Star Wars fans would do that just to manipulate the results and get their hate through about something that is long in the past. Let's move on.

    UPDATE!

Several readers (most of which are new) questioned my decision of closing this poll, accusing us of doing it just because we didn't like the results. I've been doing polls since I started this site back in 2012 and I know how these work, and I always closely monitor the results and statistics as I really like polls.

The poll was running great with an expected variety of answers and discussions, nothing groundbreaking. Then suddenly the results shifted completely in a matter of minutes and everyone that works with statistics would know that such huge leap is not possible. I checked the stats during that period when the big change happened and I saw numerous votes that were all the same and that were made through regular intervals for a big period of time. Without digging much deeper I decided to close the poll. Then some readers asked for proof and accused us of all kinds of things. So I decided to dig deeper into the results and I even upgraded our subscription to the poll company (they are called Opinion Stage) so that I can get a full list with all the votes.  And I did.

The following pages are just one of the more apparent excerpts from the results, which show that the poll was manipulated by using an automated voting through a specific interval. As you can see below, in a matter of 20 minutes almost 300 votes were submitted all through a regular interval of 2, 3 or 4 seconds. And all the votes were all the same. No human being could do that in such precision even if they wanted:

[IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Unfortunately this poll's repeated voting was protected just by using cookies. I guess this is one reason some people so easily manipulated this. Nevertheless I learned my lesson the hard way and I will not repeat that mistake again. I guess I was just too optimistic for the fandom and thought we can have a healthy discussion and real results. But it seems there are people who will do anything just to ruin what they don't like. This will be my last comment on this. I would suggest we forget all this and move on and have fun with whatever makes us happy.

Already read this in the main site and already voted.

As a fan of TLJ, I hope RJ and Disney will go on with this new trilogy.

I don't think proxy servers are the issue. I think the issue is that the writer of this article legitimately thought the poll would reflect his worldview, mainly being that sw fans want more Rian Johnson films.

They don't though. The proof is in the success of the fandom menace, which caused solo to flop as well as both Galaxy edge locations. The general consensus is that TLJ broke star wars. And fans are trying to get Disney's attention by sending them a message via their bottom line.

You shouldn't simply dismiss a poll because it goes the exact opposite way you want it to. Instead, you should think critically about the results. Toys aren't selling, the parks are a failure, and solo bombed. It's okay that you like TLJ and want other fans to vindicate your feelings. But could it be that you're in the minority and most SW fans never want Rian Johnson going anywhere near SW ever again?

You do realize that they can see who and what votes, and how, right?

When I voted, the result came in at around 2/3s love or like and 1/3 dislike or hate (I think there were over a thousand votes at that point). A few hours later, this had turned to nearly the reverse. So, either the poll was trolled (obviously the case), or certain time zones vote predominately for or against the film.

And you shouldn't assume your precious Fandumb Meance is as successful as you think it is. Most the actual fandom just consume and don't really engage. Just look at that 1.3 billion at the box office. All those people are clearly not engaging on social media. Also, you really think Lucasfilm gives a damn about a Gamespot poll? Why do haters always bring up toys? Do they think that's all Star Wars is now?

You can make argument that TLJ affected Solo's lack luster numbers but blaming TLJ for the Galaxy Edge not doing so well (yet) is a huge stretch. Galaxy Edge in CA opened up months before FL version and wasn't 100% complete either. Also the cost of attending is a barrier for the majority. No one on the east coast is going to fly to Cali when they'll have one in FL in few months time. Also there was a hurricane threat around the time where the FL GE was about to open so that turned away a lot of people. Now it's school season so i'm pretty sure the attendance will be very low anyways. Let's wait until next summer to see how well GE performs and when it's fully operational before we prematurely call it a flop. Also The Florida Walt Disney World is more popular than the Cali's version and that should also be true with FL Galaxy Edge as well. I would love go to GE but I simply can't afford it. I'm sure there's tons of other people who are in the same boat with me.

Yeah, I don't really get how people seem to feel the need to deny stuff like that.

Like with Rotten tomatoes- we can see tons of evidence that a lot of the negative accounts are bots. Heck, just look at how many of them screwed up and started spamming identical TLJ reviews on the pages of different movies!

Like, it's fine if you don't like a film. But please do try to live in reality. There are ways to confirm if bots have hijacked a conversation, and I'm sure SWNN didn't just throw out a baseless accusation.

Because they are loud and keep repeating the nonsense. Look at our Moron in Chief. He constantly repeats the same nonsense and people just start believing it is true and he has a core group of megaphones to repeat the nonsense.

Call me a rube when it comes to this kind of stuff, but I'm bewildered why someone knowledgable enough to rig voting like this didn't think to time those votes in a less obvious manner.

I think I know who you are...

But here is the real problem. The same old tired trolls who don't like TLJ keep getting butthurt that everytime they shout Rian is done and, clain KK said he isn't gonna make more movies get shown just how wrong they are over and over. Rian is getting the movies made no matter how much you don't want it to happen. It's happening.

I wouldn't worry about Rian and his movies too much. By the time they come out, there would be plenty of other SW for people to be pissed off about (RotS and Kenobi show in particular).

Unless he redeems himself with his new trilogy, I really don't care what Rian Johnson thinks.
