Variety reports that Lucasfilm is considering actor Woody Harrelson for an important role in the next Star Wars spinoff movie dedicated to the swashbuckling hero Han Solo. Read on for the details...

    From Variety:

Filming for Han Solo is expected to begin in February in London. Phil Lord and Chris Miller will be directing, and the only cast members officially announced so far are Alden Ehrenreich (Han Solo), Donald Glover (Lando Calrissian) and Emilia Clarke. Also Chewbacca was confirmed to appear in the movie.

Kathleen Kennedy described the Han Solo movie to have a heist or a western type feel. Woody Harrelson will definitely fit with this description.

What do you think? Is Woody a good fit for Star Wars?

    UPDATE!

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the report, and Borys Kit even revealed another contender for the role that was considered before Harrelson:

What's supposedly wrong with that? Ever since the very first Star Wars already established actors played a significant part in its cast. Besides, he's a good actor. It's not like they decided to give Adam Sandler or Tommy Wiseau a role.

Because already famous actors and actresses carry the baggage of their other roles and their own publically known personality into the part, which is hugely distracting.

As long as Harrelson is channelling Tallahassee we're all good.

I think considering someone of Harrelson's stature is a nod to just how different this stand alone will be and the need to attract casual fans in addition to die hard fans. I think the Han Solo movie is much more riskier (from a commercial standpoint) than Rogue One was so bringing in a couple of big names will help sell the picture. This was done to a certain extent in Rogue One, where there are recognizable names but not top stars although Forrest Whittaker being the most famous US actor (others have high level of appeal in their respective home countries). The Force Awakens could afford to cast relative unknowns for three major roles becuase they also had Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill. The Han Solo movie does not have that luxury.

I think Harrelson will be an excellent addition and perfect for the Han Solo mentor role if that is what he is looking at. Yes, I think someone along the lines of Tallahassee from Zombieland is what I would envision Han Solo's mentor to be like. I look forward to seeing what a "piece of junk" Woody's character pilots.

I am intrigued about Woody as a scroundrel. Be interesting to see how elclectic his character might be in a Star Wars universe.

I think Woody could be a good fit. He would make a good smuggler/scoundrel if that is the type of mentor they are talking about.

As far as the commercial success of this movie goes, I think it has potential to do very well. It will come down to whether people are into Han Solo the character or just Harrison Ford as Han Solo. If it is the latter then this movie will not do as well. However I think true movie will do well initially because people will flock to see a new movie about Han. Whether it has legs or not will depend on the quality of the story and whether Alden and Donald make us believe we are watching Han and Lando in their younger years.

I think Woody Harrelson in a kind of character mode he had in Zombieland would be an awesome match for a mentor to Han.

I read this rumor and cheered. I am a big fan of Woody, (particularly in the Hunger Games, a franchise which I also enjoy.)
The one thing that is interesting is that his character is described by "Variety" as "Han Solo's trainer." Trainer? A while back I read rumors that the film may feature a sports event or race of some kind (tied to gambling like podraces, enter Lando C. Can this "trainer" role possibly be the role of a coach, ala Haymitch in Hunger Games?) A very puzzling rumor indeed, but one I hope is true.

Mentor doesn't quite mean the same thing as trainer. He could be mentoring him as a smuggler.

Woody should be the green alien design that Han Solo was originally meant to be in Lucas' early script

    You don't speak for everyone.

I think the Han Solo movie needs a well known actor in it.

I dont think it ever matters if there are know or unknown actors because it doesn't matter since it's star wars and more about the characters themselves...the bigger worry is seeing them being bale to blend in and not thinking "woody harrelson" and "christian bale" but rememebring the characters instead .

Awesome. I'm getting more buzzed for this film... especially if it is like an old Western Film.
