Woody seems like he could be a great fit- shows where Han could've gotten a lot of his swagger.

I'm not crazy about Bale, but maybe he could surprise me.

Agree! Harrelson seems like a much better fit for the actors we already have confirmed. I see him blending with those 3 much, much better than someone like Bale. And I love Bale as an actor, but I just see WH sliding into this role with ease (whatever role that may be).

Besides... if you're doing a Han Solo movie without a Harrison, you might as well get a Harrelson!

Woody Harrelson is definitely a talented actor that can give a range of performances. He is a recognizable and experienced actor. He also has an old pirate, swashbuckler vibe to him which I think would be great for a mentor to a young Han Solo.

It is odd why Han would need a mentor in the first place. As mentioned earlier, Han Solo was an independent man who didn't listen to anyone or follow orders (as evident by IV.) Perhaps Woody's character is Han's mentor before he goes out alone into the galaxy.

The Han we see is a little older by ANH. Maybe it's Harrelson's character who inspires Han to be "an independent man who didn't listen to anyone or follow orders". Who knows, maybe Han will even be burned by Harrelson's character (not so much in the Obi Wan/ Anakin sense, but a little more figurative), causing Han to be a little less trusting and more cynical?

i wouldn't be surprised if his role is similar to yondu in guardians. he helped to raise han and teach him to survive in the rough and tumble galaxy and then eventually han goes out on his own.

That's very possible. I wonder, though, if this "mentor" character might be an already established character. I kind of hope not.

agreed. i've heard some theories already about woody playing cad bane and as much as i want cad on the big screen i don't think this is right fit for him.

    You read my mind, friend.

I'd love for Bane to be Han's mentor, that'd be incredible. It'd also kind of explain his Western vibe, too, as well as laying the groundwork for Boba/Han animosity. Unfortunately, I seriously doubt Harrelson could pull off a good Bane. It's not that he's not a talented actor, it's just be weird hearing him do the accent.

Still, I think Cad might end up on the big screen yet.

    Hahaha, that's great!

In all seriousness, though, a blue painted guy in a cowboy suit with a southern accent would be pretty remniscent of Yondu.

    Woody Harrelson sucks!

Yeah he was okay in True Detective and whatever.. but come on. This guy is too recognisable, he isn't "Star Warsy" at all.. he won't fit into this universe.

I'm highly worried that Lord and Miller are going to produce the worst thing since Attack of the Clones.. what's with these casting choices? Emilia Clarke?

Please tell me these are just sick, twisted jokes

Too recognizable? Let me introduce you to some of my friends:

Star Wars has certainly helped launch some prolific careers, but let's not pretend that there's not some celebrity power in it, too.

I also just dislike his acting style.. to be honest. I like all the actors above and they all fit into the universe. For example, John Boyega was a better choice than Michael B. Jordan.. he's just Star Warsy. I dunno how else to describe it.

Wouldn't that be great if we see the Kessel Run?
Question for anybody: did any novel/comic/show actually explain what the Kessel Run was? Was this an illegal trade route or was it an actual race?

No no no no no Woody is a good actor but I don't think this is the kind of film that would suit him. Plus I feel as he has already established himself as an actor taking on many well known roles, it will detract from the genuine feel of the character and the film as a whole.

Well, the fact that he's now been in a Star Wars film probably helps :p
