StarWars.com has just revealed the first trailer from the new Star Wars animated series Resistance. The series debuts on Sunday, October 7th (10 p.m. EDT/PDT) on Disney Channel, DisneyNOW, and Disney Channel VOD, with subsequent airings on Disney XD. Check it out.

    From StarWars.com:

I don't know what the overall expectations were for this series, as there was a lot of curiosity surrounding it based on the descriptions of its animation style and place in the Star Wars timeline, but if this trailer is any indication, it looks like we're in for quite the visually stunning series!

The debut time (10pm EST) seems quite late for an animated series, but these days re-watch/DVR/streaming replays are often the ways in which people take in their media, so its not as impactful as say even 10 years ago.

Are you with the Resistance? We sure are and we can't wait to talk about it with all of you once it makes its debut in less than two months!

    Update!

And here's the full press release revealing more details about the series, including the actress voicing Leia!

I saw some YouTube comments earlier today about it and i unfortunately agree: animation style, while smooth, is way too flat for me and it just doesnt seem to have any depth and looks too generic for me...I'll still give it a shot though

Seems like it's going to spend most of the S1 on the Colossus, like Rebels did on Lothal. Hmmm.

Personally I like the smooth hand-drawn animated look. Ever since I was young, I always felt CGI belonged in film as special effects, but not in stylized animated films. Compare the warmth of the painted backgrounds and expressive characters in Lion King to the cold CGI in the realistic-but-not-realistic-enough-to-be-reality world of Finding Nemo.
Resistance is stuck somewhere in between. On one hand, I love the color, simplicity, and style (admittingly, I have freeze-framed several scenes of that trailer and just STARED at it for 5 minutes, something I’ve never done with Rebels or Clone Wars.) However, once the characters start moving, it feels round, circular, and mechanical, like traditional CGI. It will definatley take time getting use to, but I do give Filoni & Company points for trying to be different.

It is ironic how the films stress “practical, real, and hand-crafted,” and the animation dept is “nah, let’s go all CGI!”

I’m totally agree with you on this. Let’s see how it unfolds, but the style does not resonate with me.
