Watching ESB I noticed when chewy starts fighting off the stormtroopers in the chrio chamber Vader stops boba fett from poppin him with his shot gun. I feel like this is a peculiar thing to throw in the movie since it was not even necessary. Anyone think it was to show Vader is not a murderer unless he truly has to be? Sort of why he's always been against the technological terror in the death star? I hope they show more of this humanity of vader in rogue one.

As long as you kill defenseless younglings in cold blood, your fate is doomed.

I think he new that the chamber needed to be tested on Solo and if Boba starts shooting the proverbial blast would hit the fan possibly killing Solo and Leia. He also recognized that Solo was going to calm down Chewie.

Yeah, that was another thought of mine, that he was concerned about destroying the equipment. Not as compelling, but more likely. Just strange they'd even add that like it had more meaning. I think it was to show that Vader had only one major agenda now being Luke and not even chewy killing his own troops would get in the way

Is there any archive available of the Jedi Council questions that used to be on StarWars.com? I really think they addressed this, and I think they said something like, "At the time of production, the goal was simply to show Vader's dominance and authority over Fett." Some people have speculated backstories about a previous disagreement between Boba and Vader.

Being quite optimistic here: at that moment there was a glimpse of Anakin there and he didn't want the hideous son/clone of Jango Fett to kill the Wookie who helped Ahsoka to survive the Trandoshan hunters' kidnapping.

It was because he didnt want chaos to break out for something so important...he obviously killed a lot because of his emotions like all of those imperial officers

Haha This is what's so great about expanding the universe and what the prequels/clone wars and EU opened up for us! We can speculate something that wasn't even thought up at the time.. except maybe by then Lucas and Kasdan, etc were already knew the ending result and they were starting to humanize Vader a tad bit.

Agreed. This is my thread, but I'm beginning to realize his focus was on capturing Luke and chaos with a wookie would certainly hinder his plans.

Yeah, I always took it as Vader being the cool, clear thinker while Boba Fett flew off the handle.

I guess he knew that Han cared for Chewie & needed him as protector of Leia, Vader probably would have given Boba the wookiee as bonus to boost the bounty Jabba announced once his usefulness ended.

Vader had the foresight to consider that if Han dies from the Carbonite process then Chewie and Leia (alive) are still good sources of bait to lure Luke to him.

Fett is only interested in the bounty on Han,not on the other aspect of why the Empire is even interested in Han,Leia and Chewie.

Before anybody saw the film, we were told "officially" that Boba Fett likes to collect the scalps of Wookiees, seen here on one of these official pictures:

So what we saw in the film was merely Boba Fett thinking he could use the opportunity to add another Wookiee scalp to his collection. Obviously, Vader didn't like that and stopped Boba Fett.

I think that scene was rather to emphasize that Vader was in full control of the entire situation there: despite Chewie's emotional outburst and the little chaos errupting, Vader was still sensitive to what Boba Fett was about to do.

Didn't Vader say something about taking Leia and Chewy with him? "I am altering the deal.. PRAY I DON'T ALTER IT FURTHER!' - One of the most underrated lines delivered in SW. :)

    That's why I quoted it! ;)

It's almost comical how much Vader starts Maclunkey with Lando and we all loved it because at the moment Lando was the most despicable. haha

Haha Deal with the Devil. I love how he's so cocky that he actually tries to argue with Vader and Vader basically punking him the whole time not even addressing him, etc. lol I just realized how funny it is (but in an awesome way not a silly way.)

I think Anakin simply did not want any unnecessary blaster fire endangering the chamber. Besides, Han was there to calm Chewbacca down.

Why would you find that funny, considering how Han's decision to go to Bespin and Anakin's arrival had endangered not only Lando, but the people of Bespin?
