I don't agree with you on the fact that R1 was a below average war film. It did not rely on Vader as the story of the REBELS stealing the plan for the DS had ended at the time VADER showed up. That was the beauty of him showing up!

Just Perfect that it was on Mustafar. Kinda bugged me that it wasn't named though... Did they name the planet where the Erso's were living at beginning?? Don't think they showed the name on screen for that either?..

They made the decision not to show it on screen to drive the suspense of the scene. If they name it Mustafar, you can just assume it's Vader's castle and Vader is coming.
Without the name it buys an extra 30 seconds of "Oh s**t, is that? I think it is!"

I believe there were a few planets/locations that weren't named. Mustafar and Coruscant for sure. Anyone remember any others? Was Lah'mu named?

Ah ok, thanks! I'm currently working my way thru TCW series and haven't seen that yet. But I am caught up on Rebels and now that I think of it, I think they also went to "Moraband"? I know they went to Malachor.. and to Mustafar lol. So yep, clearly different planets.

I still want to know what was in that cave though ;)

I'm not sure, but I won't be surprised if there's a comic or novel headed our way to explain it.

But I digress. Bottom line is that aside from the characters in TFA and their character arcs these films feel more like a generic Disney ride taking us through a routine, familiar visit without giving GL and the great authors of the EU much credit for trying to expand the Universe from the OT with their creating of now several generic planets that resemble already existing planets of GL Original

Sadly, some people cannot let go of the old EU and their own preconceived notions of what should happen in the GFFA enough to simply enjoy these new films. While TFA was not the greatest of films, it did what it was supposed to do: TFA re-set the Star Wars table and made the general viewing audience care about the new generation of characters. Meanwhile, Rogue One was a fantastic addition to the GFFA, tying in beautifully with the original Star Wars film and actually enhancing it by showing the absolute desperation that you could not otherwise understand from watching the first 15 minutes of ANH. But because it doesn't have Kyle Katarn or one of the other 387 characters involved in the EU stealing of the Death Star plans, it apparently sucks...

    Go figure.

The old EU never was on even par with the films. Some of the authors created wonderful works, I'm sure. But the old EU's entire existence has done exactly what George Lucas probably never envisioned or wanted... it created an entire class of Star Wars fans who are incapable of appreciating what was always his true vision for Star Wars: a complete saga that explored three generations of Skywalkers and stand-alone films that he could hand off to other directors to explore other film genres and stories within the universe he created.

So for those who say this is isn't what George Lucas would have done, doesn't meet up to his standards, etc.... sadly, you have it exactly wrong. We are getting precisely what George Lucas wanted ... (and I understand he really liked R1). The EU was simply a way for him to monetize, capitalize, and profit from Star Wars when HIS vision of films were not being made at that precise moment. Lucas knew people would want to write stories that were not his vision, he just figured out a way to ensure that he would profit from it. That is all the EU ever was to him.

No, Lah'Mu was not named on screen, just like Mustafar and Coruscant.

That explanation sounds weak to me. Perhaps if they should have put Vader's castle on a planet other than Mustafar.

It makes perfect sense for the story, Palpatine made the decision to torture him, Vader gets stronger with his anger, it the double meaning of "where the Jedi go to die"..

It was great to see something built on the ashes of TTF.
